One of the things we did after my back started acting up was to get a memory foam mattress. It is amazing how much of a difference that makes.
 
What is your go to ointment/lotion for cracked opened knuckle ?

Any options about Aquaphor ?

This time of year I have New Skin/Liquid Skin at my desk, in the car... The best stuff is Working Hands, which provides a thin waxy layer to hold the moisture in. I also use emery boards to sand down dead skin, which causes the cracking (it's not pliable).

If you have an open wound, get a box of gel bandages designed for fingers. They'll bend when your joint does, and they are great for facilitating healing.
 
For winter cracked and sore hands I've always used Bag Balm. That stuff works. Use it when you got to bed since it can be a bit messy but it's worth it IMHO. Years ago when I worked at UPS as Christmas help all those cardboard boxes dried out my fingers and hands big time. I'd put some Bag Balm on while I napped (job was from 3:45 am til about 9) and put baggies on my hands so I wouldn't mess up the covers. A bit inconvenient but totally worth the healing properties.
 
Anybody here do heavy labor for so long that hands & fingers became calloused to the point that lotions were no longer necessary?
 
I'm taking antibiotics for a gash on my shin. The instructions on the bottle state: "Take one capsule by mouth every 12 hours." Begs the question: Is there another method?
 
During the middle of the week, I experienced swelling in the area of my right ascending ramus. It's down now. I wonder what would cause that? When I was younger, I broke my left ascending ramus. I wonder if it's related.
 
Went to the Dermatologist for annual spot freezes however he took a scraping because of a spot's irregular margins.
 
My legs are sore today...still...from Saturday.

Played in my university's annual alumni soccer game this weekend. The pace, style, well everything is very different than the practices with The Girl's U14 team.

Pass the Advil please...
 
Decision Time -

Have surgery through the gum to try to save a front tooth
or
Have it extracted and go the implant route.

Seems like if you're worried about something being cancerous the doctor's office could give you a call either way. I'm sure they call if there's an issue but why make you sweat it out for a few extra days waiting on the mail?
 
Annual eye dr appointment - - developed film/cloudiness due to cataract lens replacement surgery - so with eye dilated Dr put more drops in the eye and then laser treatment in less than 5 minutes.

I recently had an eye exam and the optometrist remarked how I had a couple of 'noticeable' floaters in both eyes. Yeah, they drive me nuts sometimes.

Floaters - ugh. Had a scary giganto floater that would not leave my right eye. Eye doc sent me to the retina specialist. vitreuous fluid draining pulling retina or something. Laser surgery to fix says Dr Gohel.

MF that shit was uncomfortable, strapped in with eye propped open with laser beams soldering away. $1000 for your high deductible insurance plan.

Repeat 6 months later same eye, same price. But that was a followup appt, i had no floater complaints but Dr Gotohell needed to laser away anyway, more pain and suffering.

Grrr. HUbby goes to glaucoma specialist who lasers his eyes for something and he gets a liquid fricking cocaine in his eye and I had to SUFFER! WHY Dr Gotohell why?

Never again!

I get neck aches occasionally. Usually they involve sharp pain, I can't sleep and I can't turn my head for several days. Then they get better. Last week I got a lower neck ache that will NOT go away. The pain is not as intense as the usual neck aches, but this one freaks me out because the fingers on my left hand are numb/tingly this whole time.

I get back aches at times - muscular, slightly lower than my shoulder blades, generally goes away in a matter of hours (although with packing up a house to move it's happening about every other day now). I try not to complain about it because I know it's not much compared to folks with real back (or neck) problems. What you describe with the not going away and numb fingers (pinched nerve?) would freak me out...

I had to have surgery a couple of years ago for the same issue. A disk was compressing a nerve root in my neck.
 
My wife has considered a triple vertebrae fuse in her neck, but for now has decided the risk exceeds the potential reward.
 
Had appointment with an Oral Surgeon -
I need to have a front tooth extracted - done with local - no worse than a root canal
need a bone graft,
have an implant put in,
have a partial for 6 months for bone graft to take,
hopefully then a permanent tooth attached.
& total nearly $3K.

I hate when a dental crown pops off and you can't get into see the dentist that day.

temp /partial fitting ok just weird feeling.
pain - managed by ibuprofen - haven't needed prescription.
antibiotic prescription - 4 x a day
antibiotic mouthwash - 2 x a day

Hang in there. Be sure to stick to the full course of antibiotics, even if you don't feel the need.
 
:u: More Dental problems -

more bone loss around a back molar that has a root canal and crown. referral to have it checked out - if not fixable another tooth to be pulled. :'(

bone loss, gum infection are BIG issues for a diabetic.

And it usually takes longer to heal too (something very much on the mind as Mrs. Maister is diabetic and scheduled for surgery next month)
 
For those who haven't heard: Fractured rib and punctured lung that resulted in a three-day hospital stay. I will still have over 240 hours of sick available after this week off.
 
^^ My bowls are finally functioning normally. I called the AWT Plant to warn them they are going to need to amp up soon. I feel so good.
 
Because no narcotics have been introduced into my system since Wednesday morning, my head is clear. I'm a little sore, but feeling so much better. And no, I'm not filling the prescription for oxycodone sent home with me.

If you don't need it, don't take it.

Glad you're doing better. I bet you'll be a little sore for a while, but with those injuries, that's understandable.

A couple of years back, I fractured a rib and I remember it hurt just breathing. I couldn't imagine fractured ribs and a punctured lung. I hope you mend quickly.

Ditto. I cracked a rib a few years ago, and that by itself freaking sucked...there are still times when I twist at my waist and that one rib doesn't exactly move the same as the rest of them.

Sounds like things are improving, good. I tore a muscle in my lower back several years back. It hurt to the point I could barely move. They put me on several pain killers/ muscle relaxers so I could function. I got off of those as soon as I could bear to.

We were walking the dogs in the back yard Sunday night. I stumbled in a hole one had dug and landed on a short, wood, landscape retaining wall. I'm currently bruised from my waist to my arm pit on my left side. In the middle of the left side, is the hole left behind from drain tube.

I went into work for about two hours this morning. Left due to lack of strength and energy.

High praise to my staff for covering for me. I'm surrounded by a very good group of people.

And a special shout out to my digestive system this morning.

I went to the outpatient clinic this morning for a doctor-ordered follow-up chest x-ray.

The technician asks me, "Why do you need a chest x-ray?"
"I fractured a rib and punctured a lung."
"Do you know which side?"

My check-up today went great! The doctor released me. Before she did, she said my last x-rays looked good, lung appears normal, I'm breathing strong and deep, and she removed two more stitches where the tube was inserted into my chest (two stitches were removed last Wednesday when the tube was removed).

Eye condition/problem - Floaters -
possible causes - age, diabetic, cataract lens replacement surgery and some combination of all the above.
 
eye floaters are bugging the heck out of me today. To the point I have to briefly dart my gaze away to try to clear out all the crap that's getting in my view while trying to read.
