NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Weather Thread

It snowed lightly all day yesterday but nothing was really sticking. When I woke up this morning, we had about 2" on the grass... the roads and sidewalks near us were still warm enough that nothing was sticking there yet.

It's nearly 2:00 pm here now and it's very sunny but temps are still below 30 ºF so there's still quite a bit of snow left on the ground. Also, our oldest refused to take her jacket with her when I dropped her off at school this morning so she's gonna be nice and cold on her walk home!

My in-laws were supposed to head down this was for a doctor appointment this morning and then lunch with us but the expressway was closed for like an 8 mile stretch (right at what's probably the longest stretch between exits on that expressway in Michigan) so they rescheduled. Areas to the NE of us got a bit more snow but it was also really windy and colder so a section of the expressway was iced over and a semi-truck jackknifed or rolled over or something blocking all lanes.

When my FIL called to tell us they weren't coming down he seemed surprised that schools down here weren't closed for the day. I guess a lot of them up their way are closed or on a delayed start.

Our daughter normally takes a quite out-of-the-way route when walking home so that she can walk with a friend of hers. I decided to take a look and track her phone just now - she got out of school at 2:50 and and by 2:55 she was already almost all the way home. It must have been cold enough that she decided to come straight home. Maybe that will be a catalyst for her to start taking her jacket (and maybe even a hat and gloves!) with her to school in the mornings.

Probably not though... she's pretty stubborn.

Another of the benchmark of winter is when Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is closed for the season.
Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park was closed back in October.

Yeah, we got about 10 inches of snow over Thanksgiving weekend. It's sticking too.
We did too, but mostly all on Saturday.

My family and I actually left my sister's (around Flint) on Friday afternoon and spent the night in Battle Creek to be that much closer to Chicagoland.

We left BC at about 4a Saturday morning to bypass the I-94 snowbelt and didn't really hit the storm's front end until about I-65 in NW IN. Then we(I) had to, effectively, white knuckle it on I-294 north until my part of Chicagoland.

Whew!

Snow today. Just a dusting at our house but apparently a snow day for my son. Had no idea and acked him off to school this morning. People are getting soft!

My state's public radio station is known for extensive and detailed weather forecasts, which has gone so far as to inspire a t-shirt:

The forecasts for how much snow we were supposed to get in the Detroit area Saturday night into Sunday morning were all over the place. I saw projections ranging from 3" up to >10". I think we probably ended up with about 4" of very heavy snow. I went out to shovel the driveway late Sunday morning while our youngest was playing with the neighbor girl and they waddled over in their snow gear to demand that I take all the very very heavy snow I was shoveling off the driveway and put it into one giant pile for them to play in.

I had never wanted to tell a 4th and 5th grader to "F*** off!" before but I was very tempted to on Sunday.

FWIW, we got about 4", my buddy who lives maybe 3 miles away got closer to 6" and when I got into the office this morning, it looks like they got at least 8" up here.

It hit freezing here over the holiday weekend.

This morning, for my drive in, it was a balmy 31. :snowflake::snowflake:

But tomorrow should be in the low 60s after lunch.

Crazy Texas weather.

I haven't figured out how to change my car display panel back to showing the outside temperature. I changed it to display information about fuel efficiency and now I can't get it back by random button pushing. These are desperate times, though, and I may have to resort to...gasp...looking in the owner's manual.

Sounds like it's time to trade it in!
