NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Weather Thread

My wife just told me there's a chance of rain today. All of 20%.

Supposed to be in the high 90s here through the weekend...& this is NOT dvds 'dry heat', it's sticky, muggy, wrap up in a wool blanket humidity heat.

It's moist here too. Just not as moist as you are. We might get rain later tonight and then the temps will crank back up to over 110.

From the NWS
  • Extreme Heat Warning—Take Action! An Extreme Heat Warning is issued when extremely dangerous heat conditions are expected or occurring. Avoid outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day. If you must be outside, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade. Stay indoors in an air-conditioned space as much as possible, including overnight. Check on family and neighbors.
  • Extreme Heat Watch—Be Prepared! An Extreme Heat Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for an extreme heat event but its occurrence and timing is still uncertain. Plan to suspend all major outdoor activities if a warning is issued. If you do not have air conditioning, locate the nearest cooling shelter or discuss staying with nearby family or friends who have air conditioning.
  • Heat Advisory—Take Action! A Heat Advisory is issued for dangerous heat conditions that are not expected to reach warning criteria. Consider postponing or rescheduling outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day. If you must be outside, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade. Stay in a cool place, especially during the heat of the day and evening.

The heat index is already 110 and it is only 90 right now.

We bought a dehumidifier to help the interior feel of the house and it isn't even making a dent. A house at the entrance of my neighborhood is getting a new roof today. I can't imagine how it is for those guys.

We're in the monsoon season so it's staying below 110 lately. I think Sunday it's supposed to top that. It's nice.

It was like 92º most of the afternoon and then a storm rolled through about 20 minutes ago. It's currently 75º. I'm sure once the rain stops completely in a bit, it will still be "cooler" out but it's going to be about 1000% humidity.

Can confirm.

Younger daughter had a friend over and I stepped out onto the porch a few minutes ago to say goodbye when she was getting picked up and my glasses immediately fogged up!

We're sitting in the high 90s right now. About an hour ago, a light rain fell for about 20 minutes. Just enough to wet the streets & sidewalks.

I'm afraid to go outside. I know the humidity is going to extremely high. The streets & sidewalks are all dry now too.

It's NEVERENDING summer in north Texas. Day after day is the same: Hot sunshine, morning low about 80°F, afternoon high about 100°F. Wash, rinse, repeat until September sometime.

Yesterday in north metro Atlanta: 100 degrees at 4:30 PM, massive thunderstorm at 8 PM, temps down to 77 degrees by 8:15 PM, lightening strike on a transformer at 8:30 PM that knocked out power to my side of my hood, blackout for four hours. Lather, rinse, repeat. Welcome to the ATL.

I took my youngest to Six Flags on Monday. It was miserable from a heat perspective, but great from a line standpoint. Only had to wait in line once all day, but any time in sun was brutal. We left when they closed Superman down because one of the workers fell out from the heat.

We stopped in Newnan on the way back thinking it would have cooled down by 8 pm, but the pavers at the open air shopping center were still radiating all of heat they stored that day.

Took kiddo #1 and her boyfriend to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio yesterday. It was stormy all morning with temps in the low 60s there on the shores of Lake Erie. The rain eventually dried up early in the afternoon and the sun finally came out around 6:00 pm. Not ideal weather for lounging around, but great weather for a trip to an amusement park - the early morning wind, rain, and clouds kept a lot of potential park-goers away and the lines were never to long. It's also better weather than the alternative this time of year which is like 95º, sunshine, and humidity around 100%... we've definitely had amusement park days like that and those days are miserable.

It also could have been worse with regards to the rain since there was some flooding at the park earlier in the week when a quick, strong storm rolled through: https://sanduskyregister.com/news/613248/cedar-point-floods/

I feel for Milwaukee and parts of WI, (Including a Cyburbian who had a wet basement this weekend).

I was at the State Fair Saturday which got flooded, but left while the sun was still out. Left Milwaukee at maybe 7 and never saw much rain where we were.

88 Today in Buffalo-Niagara and similar 85-90 highs all week. I have my home AC set to 67 and on low fan while I am in the office, otherwise I will come home to a sauna. I hate running it when im not there wasting power, but it gets unbearable if I don't anytime its above 85.

One thing I do really appreciate about Buffalo summers though: the night time lows are always in the 60s, sometimes 50s. Montreal is very similar in the summer, we here in WNY get a tempering effect from the Lakes, whereas MTL is just cool by pure latitude.

I presume utilities are included in your rent? :astonished:

That's the kicker in north Texas: We typically get a period of the summer (which we're in right now) where it only gets down to 80°F at night and zooms up to 100°F during the day. The 100 is tough, but when it never gets below 80 at night, things don't truly cool down.

We've been lucky so far this year; we're about 3-5° lower than that. Still, on Saturday the AC stayed on all day and couldn't get closer than 2° higher than the set point.

The other night our overnight low was 100 and for T, my AC is usually set at 80-81.

We'll have times when the overnight low is 85. That sucks, but can't imagine it being higher. Sounds like literal hell on earth.

Our biggest issue this summer has been humidity. Its usually bad, but I don't remember a summer where it constantly rained every day. The mushrooms and other fungus in my yard are going crazy.

It's been humid in north Texas too. I thought we were finally over that and would get into the 100 high/80 low cycle ever day until sometime in September, and then yesterday it was cloudy all day and this morning it rained. I bet it's humid AF (well, for us here in north TX anyway) out there right now.

The news is making it sound like we will spontaneously combust if we step out side... the "Extreme Heat Warning" from the National Weather Service does not help the matter. I kind of feel bad about my kids walking home from school, but it is a mostly tree covered greenway and it is not that far (close enough that we don't have bus service).

Last week a HS in a neighborhood district didn't have AC and a kid was brought to the hospital because he passed out.

EDIT... Temp is now 100 with a heat index of 111.

Looks like this is the last of the warm weather for a while. Next Tuesday should be really interesting... compared to today. Great weekend weather though!

Yeah, but it's a dry heat, amirite?
Everyone says that until they get off the plane and stick their head in the oven that is Arizona.

I still prefer the dry heat over the sweat because you took a shower humidity.

After a stretch of temps in the 80s and 90s with a ton of humidity things started to cool down towards the end of last week. Yesterday was maybe a high around 80º but rainy all day. Today's high is supposed to be 71º. Looking at the 10-day forecast, the highs over the next week+ are anywhere from 66º to 78º, sounds pretty pleasant!

I also noticed that when I went for a run Monday morning it just felt more crisp out there. Fall is in the air!
