NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Weather Thread

It was cold enough to trip my TPMS sensors (shrinkage!)

I went to air them up and my pump didn't work. I thought it was the fuse on the car and replaced that and it still didn't work. So I either replaced the wrong fuse or the fuse on the pump itself (I think there's one in there)

Finally moving into fall-like weather.

We are on a hill still pretty much in the middle of the plains. The wind howls most the time. Winter could be brutal.

Still haven't turned the heat on in the house up here in Metro Detroit. It's been chilly in the house the last few days, but I've been running a space heater a little bit when I'm home to take the edge off. It helps that my house is brick.

With my wife overseas for work and the youngest off at college, it feels like such a waste to heat our 2-story colonial for just me and my oldest daughter, especially when neither of us are at the house very much other than at night.

At this point it's become a challenge to see how long I can go without turning the heat on. The temps for the next week look promising. I'm going to try my hardest to hold out until November 1, but my 21-year old daughter may murder me in my sleep if I get too crazy about this
Sweater and stocking hat time.

We had the earliest first frost in decades here this AM.

Wood stove fired up early.

One of my sisters works at an advertising firm in our downtown. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day they get off every Friday at noon. On Mondays and Fridays from Labor Day until Memorial Day they get off for the rest of the day if it hits 70º. She's had the past couple Fridays off around noon because of that and it looks like she's going to get today off around noon as well.

Seems like a pretty fun policy to me.

That's a pretty sweet policy!

Yes for global warming!

Yesterday was pleasant enough to do yard work while wearing a long sleeve shirt. Mowed and trimmed the lawn, trimmed bushes, and started raking leaves from early dropping trees. Next weekend is to be 70 degrees, perfect for closing down the patio, and finishing up yard work other than leaves yet to fall.

Cool in the morning, hot in the afternoon, cool at night.

The temperature swings are one of my favorite weather-related things about this time of year.

I went for a walk yesterday afternoon and it was sunny and in the low 70s but every time I was walking through a particularly shady area it felt like the temps instantly dropped about 15º. It was also nice this morning that the temperatures were in the mid 50s still at 5:00 AM, which was a nice change from some the rest of the mornings over the past week or two where morning temps were usually down in the low 40s.

Various signs of the winter season -

Yosemite NP announced that the cables on the Half Dome climb have been taken down for the season
Glacier NP announced that the Going to Sun Road is closed for the season.

The first ski area in Colorado is open - Wolf Creek with 26 inches.

We've received roughly 10 inches of rain in the last 90 days. About 8.5 of that came in 36 hours around Helene.

We're finally out of highs in the 80s.

Still haven't turned the heat on. Supposed to hit 70 degrees tomorrow.
Still haven't turned it on. But my wife is coming home after a 6-week business trip so we'll see how much longer we can go. She'll probably want to turn it on before I will.

Our high is 20 degrees warmer than the average temp is supposed to be.

Which right now is fine since I'm still enjoying the deck in the evenings (now without mosquitos)

One day last week, the overnight low temperature was 12 degrees warmer than the average daytime high temperature.

The Chinese are getting really good with this climate change hoax, methinks.

In fairness, that's an example of weather as opposed to climate, but I bet if you look at weather trends over the past several decades, overnight lows have been gradually creeping up across the board by several degrees when averaged, and that is climate.

As suspected, my wife made me turn the heat on Saturday night :)

[NoteToSelf]Gotta really crank up the obvious sarcasm next time - this is a pretty tough crowd.[/NoteToSelf]

Our local weather nerd (recording and reporting since 1982) puts pieces in the local weekly. He can go on and on about ninas etc. but he also knows we survived the biggest disaster in planet history (Noah's flood).

He says our October was the driest month on record, with .03" recorded.

He thinks those nina effects will give us a wetter cooler winter, with maybe some ice storms.

The sun will set in Utqiagvik, Alaska today for the final time this year. They will go 65 days without a sunrise. They won't see the sun again until January 22, 2025.

It's crazy how warm and green we still are. It feels like April. My tomato plant is still producing quite a bit right now. Other than maples, most of the trees are still green. I don't ever remember it staying this way so late into November.

Apparently this weekend, we're finally going to dip in the 40s.

It's still warm here, and the grass is green. The trees are bare.

Weather people are making a big deal that we may get 1 - 3 inches of snow tomorrow into Friday. They aren't predicting that the show will melt as soon as it falls because the ground is warm.

I've got to mow the grass again.

The wind over the next couple days should take care of a lot of leaves still on trees, but several oaks still have green leaves on them.

We were in the mid-40s this morning in Texas. Here it is mid morning and it's only 50 right now.

Planning to go to San Francisco next week to see Cindy Lopper*. Weather may stop us, but as an alternate I have reserved train tickets in case they close the pass in the wake of the southern tail of the "bomb cyclone."

*I know it's "Lauper." I just mispell it on purpose to annoy my wife (who isn't on this board). :)

Kid just saw the concert yesterday. Said it was awesome. You must shout out I love you. She has many funny responses to that.

We got the super expensive YOLO "want to have fun" package so we will be close enough she should be able to hear us! Thanks for the tip.

Reality hit today with low 30s, 45 mph winds and snow squalls. Why didn't my daughter's family move somewhere nice?

We got our first snow of the season last night. Maybe an inch fell. There's still an incidental amount of accumulation occurring. Something on the order of this:

Us too. First winter weather of the season for us.

I actually like it.
I don't mind it either. Having four seasons is important to me, and the down time offered by winter is part of the cycle. Appreciation of the aesthetic appeal of a snow covered landscape is a thing too.

It's a chilly 80 today dipping down to the 50s. I might need a jacket.

I actually enjoy the occasional snowstorm and the covered landscapes, especially around the holidays.

It's the several months of cold that just gets me.

Plus, this weather doesn't really affect me and my commute given the relative closeness of my office to home. Though we are likely to get about 1-3 inches in my part of the Metro.

And for you the commute in a heavy storm isn't even much of an impediment.

Weather has been pegged as a kind of news. Blame it on business schools and marketing MBA's, where every statement has been marketed.
