NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Weather Thread

Currently 82º and very sunny here in suburban Detroit. Even saw some college-age girls out in their bikinis washing a Jeep in their driveway while I was on my walk.

Oldest brother is in Ft. Lauderdale. He said everywhere was flooded. It took him about 2 hours to drive 40/50 blocks. His screened porch flooded but he was able to keep it out of the house for now.

There were some folks in my spinning class at lunch talking about that. That's a crazy amount of rain in such a short time.

I saw where they are calling it a 1000 year flood event. Up to like 24 inches of water in a day.
There is no such thing as a "1000 year flood event" anymore. These things are happening every other year. You can bet there will be more catastrophic flooding in South Florida before this decade ends.

84º and very sunny on my walk into town for lunch and a beer a bit ago. We were off of school a couple of weeks ago for spring break but a lot of the schools are off this week. Lots of kids and families out enjoy the sunshine downtown. If only it there were actually some flowers blooming or leaves on the trees it would have looked pretty nice out.

It's supposed to be warm through the weekend but then back to typical dreary and chilly spring weather next week.

I think we get a week of unseasonably warm spring weather every year around this time only to be kicked in the pants a few days later.

Yep. Snow on the ground in northern Illinois. At least tomorrow will be 20 degrees warmer.

Woke up to a light blanket of snow on the ground this morning. It's already melting. We frequently get a wintery cold snap in late March or early April but seems like it's later than usual this year.

Me too...erm...me also.

Saturday was a high of ~82F then today (2 days later) a high of ~41F.

April started off with a pair of 90 degree days and there hasn’t been measurable rain in over two weeks.

It's snowing. It's also 35 degrees out, so we know it won't be sticking around for long. But still, it's April 25th and it's SNOWING.

It's sunny and about 60º outside. I just got home from a walk to Starbucks and the grocery store (had to replenish our cheese stocks) and I was actually regretting wearing a sweatshirt.

Currently 94 and I'm hating that I have to wear pants to go to a meeting later - not work related. That's wearing pants instead of shorts you perverts.

We break 100 on Sunday.

Picking the nicest day of the year (so far) as the first day to come into the office in about 10 days was a mistake. Hard to get much done when I'd much rather be working from the patio at home. :disappointed"

Summer is here and the burning season is right around the corner. My allergies are in full bloom. This post was brought to you by my allergy meds and albuterol.

We went to the local Memorial Day parade yesterday. When the parade ended around 11:30 a.m. it was already about 85º (props to the folks in the parade who thought handing out chocolate would be a good idea  ), we swung past our house to pick up some snacks for the car and then headed out to the beach house about 70 minutes away... where it was 62º when we arrived and never really warmed up. As we got about 15 minutes away from the beach I could see the thermometer in the car just start going down and down and down.

I was looking forward to doing some kayaking but didn't bother with it. The kids still had a blast looking for rocks and beach glass and going for a long walk up the beach, as the beach is at its widest and sandiest that it's been in at least a decade.

By the time we were driving home we had forgotten how warm it was at our house and when we parked and got out of the car in our driveway it was back up to 89º and like rolling out of the car and into a blast furnace!

What a difference about 60 miles can make.

We don't have humidity or "apparent temperature charts" because it's hot enough to evaporate all the moisture so there is no apparent temperature. It's just damn hot. The sad thing is that we do get a little humidity from our monsoons and that just turns this place into the South, and who would want to live there?

Try that for 5 to 6 months with the threat of tropical storms and hurricanes. Welcome to the southern part of the south east. It's basically an outdoor sauna.

I actually really liked that when I lived in NC.

I'm headed down to PI next week and was looking forward to getting out and running in the heat and humidity each morning and evening and then I looked at the forecast (granted, it's still a week out and a lot can change between now and then) and saw that while it's supposed to be close to 90º here all week, down there it looks like it will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s with a nice breeze and little humidity. Yeah yeah... that's really near perfect weather but not the kind of nostalgia inducing situation I was hoping for!

We are inundated with smoke from nearby wildfires. The smell in the air is not unpleasant but it sucks to be constantly breathing that air.

Preview to summer today. 85 degrees and very humid.

We've been spoiled with mid-70s for the last couple weeks.

Yep, the haze in the air is pretty intense today and we started smelling the smoke last night, totally unaware of what was happening. (We double checked the stove again before we went to bed.)

Today, with a poor air quality warning, I've got a headache and am dreading going outside into it.

I think you may be one of the first people I've ever met who misses hot and humid, especially while doing any physical activity.

I've been whacking azaleas in the morning and early evenings. It takes about 15 minutes for all of the energy to leave and about 6 hours to rehydrate. We won't start sustaining 90 for another week.

I stepped out to take a photo with my "real camera".

That hill in the background is about 2 miles/3 km away. There's few people out and about, in part because there's a county health department warning to stay indoors if possible.

According to the National Weather Service, it's been a completely clear and sunny day here. So sunny, I was able to stare directly at the sun, with no eye protection, and it didn't really feel uncomfortable.

Gives me an excuse to post this.

[OT]Consider me very surprised to see one way street pairs in downtown Ithaca still. Seems like they would ahve gone the way of the Dodo long ago, replaced with bike lanes and street side seating for dining.[/OT]

Here's what it looked like outside of Cyburbia Headquarters this morning.

Again, another "sunny" cloud-free day. The drive to work ...

The landscape looks like what I'd see wearing a pair of cheap blue-blocking sunglasses. The smoke seems to be filtering out all the blue light, and everything is taking on an otherworldly yellow glow. The sky was brown this morning; now there's a thick brownish-pinkish haze. It looks and smells gross.

It looks like Hollywood is applying a screen so we know you live in another country. Not Mexico, that would be sepia.

...
Add me to the list of those who miss hot and humid. I've been here in the north almost two years, it's June, and I'm freezing all the time. When it hit 90 a few weeks ago, it was wonderful. Now, I'm just back to being cold. :ohreally:

I could swear I've seen Dan's picture before somewhere......OHHH, now I remember where...

Close. AQI is now 460. I went to the top of a parking ramp and took these photos a couple of hours ago.
I did not realize that the scale went that high. We have a bit of a front rolling though at the moment so the rain is helping to clean the lower atmosphere here a little bit. We are only at 71 for the AQI.

I was away from Detroit all last week so I missed out on the AQI fun but my wife said it smelled like a constant campfire all day every day but when I was driving back home on Saturday afternoon and got closer to Columbus I could begin to smell what must have been the remnants of the smoke and particulate in the air. It got bad enough that I could no longer drive with my windows down for a while as it was definitely bothering my eyes.

We had rain this weekend, but are entering severe drought territory. The deck on my house has contracted and I had some boards pop nails. Also a rabbit died under the deck and it mummified. There is no water. I mowed once in the last month.

We got rain this weekend and rain again today. This after almost eight weeks of no precipitation. What can I post that could possibly make me sound like a total ingrate? Oh, I know ....

This rain is bad for the garlic harvest I intended to do today. It needs to be dry for that.
