NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

From John Bolton

“So now we’re going to see whether the American Senate can stand up and reject two people who are totally unqualified, unfit, professionally and and really lacking in the moral characteristics, the character that you need to hold these jobs. I think this vote should be 100 to nothing against both of them,” he added.

I was just thinking how fun for the onion to put out their classic news stories on infowars and have all the suckers believe it. You could even start swaying their opinion toward the middle. Although I do appreciate the value of the onion and families taking out the trash.

Isn't it inefficient for the Department of Government Efficiency to have two chairmen?

Dear God, we are doomed as a country.
Eh, I'm not seeing as much nail biting from the fed gov rank-and-file as there was in the buildup to the first Trump administration, just seeing some things being slow played until the dust settles in January.

Betsy Devos was a terrible pick to head Dept. of Education during the first term apocalypse.
Morrow got defeated in NC & went to the southern castle to try to get the job, but was not let in.
So let's turn to the former head of the WWE to slam the Dept. of Education into the mat during the second term apocalypse.

Truely the best and brightest (as seen on tv)!

Selling them to Russia. Need to cut the size of government.

Two thoughts:
1) Well, that's what they did with the entire US anyways...
2) Still need them. Otherwise Tulsi has to be deported as an immigrant (though it's to Russia, so is there really any difference?), and we need Alaska so we can drill for the black Alaskan gold.

The number of non-MAGA Americans that went to the polls and weighed whether to vote for Harris or for Trump, and chose Trump, even given all they knew about him and all he said he planned to do in v.2.0, simply amazes me.

I just don't get it.

Hobson's choice - the lesser of two evils. That is how all presidential elections are at this time. You do not become a presidential candidate by being nice person.

I think I am in an angry phase when dealing with the results of the election. Although I don't think we are doomed, that all hope is lost, and that it is the end of the republic. I am angry because of the same thing from the past several elections. We don't get to pick from good candidates because of the binary nature of the election. It is just R or D and they push everyone else out.

As I noted before Harris was not a good candidate... but who is to blame from the DNC for her nomination to the ticket. The reality is it is not just one person, but several that were so wrapped up in not stepping on Biden's toes that they refused to do what we all know was right and have him announce early enough that we would not seek a second term, and then let the preliminary process move forward.

The other side of all of this a real question if the preliminary process is broken. Trump was out talking with people and campaigning, but never debated anyone during the primary process. Historically, primaries were run to the furthest left or right, get the nomination, then run back to the center. Trump never did that and he isn't the furthest right of those who were running.

I also believe the majority of the country are sick of the extreme ends of the political system. It really makes me wonder if America chose Trump, not because he was the lesser of the two evils, but because he was the less "progressive" of the two evils. I have said it and and I will say it again, I believe a centrist candidate, R or D would win in a landslide.

And then there is Bill Clinton saying that he thinks it would be easier for a conservative republican woman to get elected. He also stated "I think in some ways we've moved to the right as a reaction to all the turmoil. And I think if Hillary had been nominated in 2008, she would've walked in, just like Obama did. Well, I think all these cultural battles that we're fighting make it harder in some ways for a woman to run."

Sadly, Linda McMahon is about the most qualified of all his picks so far.

Not only do I not get it, I'm not sure I believe it.

Historian Heather Cox Richardson noted in her recent blog post that all votes now having been counted, more voters chose someone else besides Trump. He is by definition a minority president, like Nixon was.

Nixon, in 1968, yes. 1972, no.

And 1992 and 1996 Clinton/Gore ticket, and 1976 Carter/Mondale. Not a Republican only statistic. It did happen to GOP, too. Just pointing out it happens to Dems since the HCR comment, with the brief info we have, makes it sound like this only happened to Trump in the last few generations. Media ploy to discredit the election? And for the record, I despise Trump.

1: I absolutely agree that the primary process is trash. Trump did not actually participate in the primary, and still made it to the ticket. As much as we can (fairly) criticize the Dems for how rushed their process was this go around, the reality is that the GOP primary process was also useless.

Along those lines, I think the initial states that start the roll out of the primary should change. The way the candidates market themselves and their policies would be very different if they were not in corn country first, as an example.

2. As I reflect on Harris, I think she was a more traditional Reagan-type Republican than Trump. She talked about having a gun and concealed carry. Walz went hunting. They campaigned with the Cheney’s. Much of the ‘woke” and “leftist” ideals relegated to who Harris is was not necessarily a part of their campaign messaging, but rather from the attack ads from the right. What has been astonishing to see is that we, as a collective nation, have fabricated this narrative of who each person is, what they stand for, but sometimes without any real grounds for that conclusion. The impression and the reality have just become distorted in very weird ways. The reality is the MAGA GOP and the Reagan-era GOP are two vastly different GOPs. As an aside, hearing from some of the higher ups of the local GOP here, they view the non-MAGA GOPs as part of the deep state.

There's a part of me (perhaps the part that just wants to watch the world burn), that wants to see wide-open ranked choice voting with full elimination of party primaries. Let's get crazy!

Let's do it. I'd say let's just simply not have any partisan elections at all and get rid of all political parties. But the oligarchy would never allow that to happen.

Reagan was a Goldwater/McCarthy type conspiracy theorist. A closet John Bircher.

Trump is simply a monomaniac money grubber that knows cheating is fine if you can afford the lawyers you need.

We really need to switch to a parliamentary system with a prime minister. Elections can be called in a few weeks' time.

I don't regard HCR as part of the media. She is a scholar. '72 is the year Wallace was shot. In '92 we had Ross Perot, an Elon Musk type that got rich off the govt. and then declared it his enemy.

And the public voted for who they wanted. What about 1976 Carter and 1996 Clinton? Excuses can always be made and will always be debatable. Bottom line is if there is a candidate outside of the two parties, they will get votes and desire to have them elected will be commensurate with the number of votes.

I still want to see what was in the Senate report, and I still want to see MTG unleash all of the sexual deviancy dirt of the other republicans (as her threat to stop the report from going public). Given that Madison Cawthorn had talked about some of the unique things he saw from his fellow republican colleagues, and this whole silly drama, there might be some fire under the smoke.

Heard one of the late night talk hosts say 'With Gaetz as AG we don't know if the crime rate will go down, but are pretty sure the age of consent will go down.'
