NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

Yes, but do you have an election denier running for Secretary of State (regulates elections in our state)? You would think that was an obvious hell no vote, but not here.

Basically, she copied Dewine's execution in OH and having lived through the OH version, there was no real lockdown.

Talk to the Italians and/or Chinese to understand real lockdowns.
I don't disagree regarding what are real lockdowns, but I am asking for a comparison of places in the US.

As for Ohio, it was my understanding that it was shorter in duration than Michigan's and they never did things like ban power boats.

"What the heck is a pronoun? My pronoun is 'sick and tired of these pronouns.' Because right now, these pronouns gonna get our men and women in the service killed. Lemme tell you, China, and Russia, and Iran aren't talking about pronouns, they're talking about war. And yet we're talking about pronouns."--- from Herschel Walker campaign speech cpl of days ago.
This is the zenith, or maybe the nadir of Republican cynicism. If Walker gets in they will have to put him back in a junior high school class somewhere.

One more day until no political ads!

Well, I don't mind them, okay?!

"Why?" might you ask?

Hee hee! Well, we have a lady (she's a lesbian) running for re-election for Attorney General who made a joke about putting a drag queen in all our public schools, and the right is apoplectic! Deeee-lite-full!!! The anti ads run the clip of her saying it.

Again, WE HAVE CONSERVATIVES RUNNING ADS ABOUT DRAG QUEENS! So wonderful! The glee is immeasurable every time I see one of those ads! WHEEEE!

Not likely.

Tomorrow the Stop the Steal and Stop the 'Stop the Steal' ads will commence and be with us for at least the next 6-12 weeks.
Sounds like the conversation I had with my dad the other day. He is positive that the DNC cheated and that Trump was the true winner of the last election. I told him that if he has proof take it to the authorities because until that happens, I am not changing my mind that Biden won fairly.

Except that the GA senate race is likely to require a runoff.

Yay.
You Georgia people and your weird runoffs. At least I won't have to see any ads. Just the news going 24/7 about what Hershel said today or did 20 years ago.

Not in GA, but we still get all of the ads. I wish they could stop them at the state line. At least I don't get robocalls for them.

Well, most of the candidates that I voted for were elected and yes, it was a split ticket.

The news is interesting this morning. It appears that the "red wave" that was predicted did not become reality. One thing that I really hope is that when they look at the details they will find those who align too closely to Trump were not elected and it sends a message to the GOP and Trump that his political career is over. For example, there is one candidate who said that when he gets to DC he would be a MAGA Warrior... he did not get my vote.

I am happy to see that Fetterman was elected but disappointed to see that Whitmer was reelected.

What are your thoughts on the election? Do you think it will change anything moving forward?

I predict a Repub. House, Dem. Senate coupled with the Biden presidency.

Nothing of any real substance will get done by Congress and it will be a defacto lame duck 2 years for Biden as the 2024 electioneering will begin on January 3, 2023.

I'm sure there will be lots of theatrics provided, courtesy of the GOP. Expect to see at least one government shut down.

I voted absentee a while back but my wife voted in-person yesterday. She went around 10:00 a.m. which is usually a pretty quiet time at our polling place but she had to wait in line for about 20 minutes. IIRC 2018 had record turnout for a midterm election; it will be interesting to see how this year's turnout numbers compare.

Yesterday was also the first time we had election day off as a paid holiday. That was pretty nice to have that extra day. Most of the schools in our district are polling places so all of the kids in the area had the day off... except for one of our two high schools. That high school isn't a polling place and already lost a week of classes because of power outages at the start of the school year so that school tacked on a day for everybody yesterday. Well, everybody except the seniors who still got the day off to encourage those who are already 18 to vote (and also because the seniors generally will still have enough of the required instruction time).

And both the House and Senate will be razor thin majorities, which will only emphasize the pointlessness of the theatrics.

As of 7:30 AM it looks to be headed to a runoff, thanks to the Libertarian candidate siphoning off 2% of the vote.
Just another example of libertarians creating more pointless government exercises. Surprisingly, there were more libertarians on the my ballot in AL than democrats. From what I can tell they all either got about a 10% protest vote if they were going against republicans only or about 2% in races where they were on the ballot with both republicans and democrats.

My favorite thing from last night. After all the voter suppression and only go vote in person crap the local GOP decided to sue to keep the polls open longer. Judge tossed it out. Imagine, a GOP suit with no merit.

“I think if they win, I should get all of the credit, and if they lose, I should not be blamed at all,” Trump told NewsNation.”

So.

Someone broke my window just now. Well actually about an hour ago, so about midnight our time. I don't know it was politically motivated but since I had campaign signs in my yard I think there's some likelihood that it was. On the night after Election Day.

My son and I just finished boarding up the window (lucky I had adequate supplies on hand). In the end it's a minor inconvenience since the window that was broken will be replaced when we get our new windows next week.

It was the window circled in yellow. We found the bottom of a glass bottle (beer bottle probably) in the debris. Before they broke the window they tried to break the glass on my back security door (dark area where the arrow is pointing). I was in the room with the three high windows; by the time I realized something was going on whoever did it was gone.

Strange days indeed.

Kellyanne Conway: “I don’t know why my polls were skewed, they were conducted with integrity at Mar-a-Lago.”

The worse part of this statement is "integrity at Mar-a-Lago" which really does not exist.

I will admit that seeing Trump post on Truth Social is enjoyable. It has the same flavor of crazy as Twitter, but no one sees it. Win for everyone!

What are your thoughts on the election? Do you think it will change anything moving forward?

I don't know how many takeaways there are for the midterms at this point, other than maybe a general disappointment amongst Republicans in their House and Senate results. It is interesting to see a number of states split tickets between their Senate and Governor picks, there's probably a lot to unpack wherever this happened.

You give him more attention than he deserves.
I mean look at this gem:

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump·1h

For those many people that are being fed the fake narrative from the corrupt media that I am Angry about the Midterms, don’t believe it. I am not at all angry, did a great job (I wasn’t the one running!), and am very busy looking into the future. Remember, I am a “Stable Genius.”

If the political ads aren't bad enough, now I get to my wife's love of CNN and the nonstop speculating on how this is a big win for the Dems. Um...it's not a big win for anybody. It's not an endorsement of your ideas. It was a close game like one more touchdown kind of game and it says maybe you should try harder for the big win. There's lots you can read into all the micro polling or whatever odd break downs, but it's still a lack of real faith in any parties ideas.

Yet another 'vote for the lesser of two evils' or 'voted for this because I couldn't vote for that' election.

It looks like there might not be any student loan forgiveness after all. I am really curious if the Biden administration really vetted the constitutionality of this program before they tried to launch it.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with the program but it will not fix the real issue of college tuition being stupid expensive.

I remember talking to someone late last year and saying rather than forgive any existing student loan debt, it would be wiser to fix the interest rates on student loans first so they simply match inflation.

As much as I hate Trump, I fear De(ath)Santis even more. Maybe Trump's lock on the GOP is finally starting to fade away, but DeSatan is another kind of evil. A worse kind of evil. He is lawful evil and opposed to tRump's Chaotic Evil.

Plus let's not forget he is also a murderer, responsible for the deaths of thousands of Floridians (and deaths elsewhere due to MAGA superspreaders).

Deathsantis 02.jpg

The only hope is that if both Trump and DeathSantis run in '24, and Ronny gets the nomination, then Donny will form a de facto third party. This will split the GOP vote and and the Democrats may win again in '24.

Otherwise we are completely fu*ked.

Yeah de Santis is one terrifying son of a bitch.

It's pretty much a lock that DeSantis is the next POTUS unless the Dems find a true common sense moderate who isn't beholden to the far left.
Yes, it would seem, depressing as it is. But Donny's outsized ego may get the better of him and he may try and run as Independent, like Ralph Nader

we can hope, anyway

My big problem with the program is that it allowed loan forgiveness to households making up to $250K/year I mean WTF. I certainly don't want to subsidize millionaires.
