NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

Yeah, we get the Savannah stations so it's a constant barrage of Walker/Warnock and Kemp/Abrams ads. Hink is exactly right. Walker is truly incapable of formulating a coherent thought. It's embarrassing listening to him. But yet it's a close race.
Walker should be getting medical care. The reason why people will believe the accusations against Walker, is they come from a someone who had a long term relationship with him and he has struggled with the truth. He has said he graduated from UGA in the top 1%, but didn't graduate. He claimed he's worked for different law enforcement, but didn't.

I've been more interested in the discussion around Fetterman the last couple of days. It looks like the campaign tried to downplay the effects from his stroke. It also looks like a member of the media might have tried to overplay his abilities. I do think its reasonable to ensure that he's fit for the job. I also think its reasonable that if he needs some sort of aid to do the job fully, that shouldn't be disqualifying. I would still probably vote for him over Oz.

Where there is smoke, there almost always is fire. I mean Kavanaugh was a terrible choice for SC, and he still made it. Even though the "stories" were all true.

Character just doesn't matter any longer in politics. We probably just need to get past assuming it does.
Clarence Thomas was not qualified either. Patriarchy put him in there.

Could not find a Debbie Wasserman Schultz sign to bring some balance to the post.
And here's Miss Lesko today. Not the worst offender, but it still reminds me of Realtors that are 50 years old using their 20 something picture they always used.

Hershel is getting accusations because of his character. People say he slept with some woman and it's believable. People don't run around saying Mike Pence slept with other women. People definitely don't say I sleep with women. Most of the time they're just shocked I'm married. Your character comes from your past and a remotely believable accusation will stick. True or not.

Hey! I heard DVD sleeps with other women! There...fixed that for you. :ha: Now run for office.

It has to be remotely believable. No one is going to believe that. Plus I can't run for office. I have common sense and would answer every question with, "Why is that a government problem?"

I don't know all of Liz Cheney's political positions, but I applaud her for going against the party and doing the right thing in regards to Jan 6 and saying that Trump was the problem.

I mean come on...

This is hilarious. Trump wrote a letter to the Chairman of the January 6th Committee. The first paragraph if you don't want to read the whole thing:

Dear Chairman Thompson,
THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2020 WAS RIGGED AND STOLEN!
The same group of Radical Left Democrats who utilized their Majority position in Congress to create the fiction of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, the $48 Million Mueller Report (which ended in No Collusion!), Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, the atrocious and illegal Spying on my Campaign, and so much more, are the people who created this Committee of highly partisan political Hacks and Thugs whose sole function is to destroy the lives of many hard-working American Patriots, whose records in life have been unblemished until this point of attempted ruination. The double standard of the Unselects between what has taken place on the “RIGHT,” and what has taken place with Radical Left, lawless groups such as Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and others, is startling and will never be acceptable, even to those who will be writing the history of what you have done to America.

I love that the appendix is pictures of his inauguration and then faulty voter audit info from assorted states. Okay, not faulty, just generally out of context or abused statistics.

I have a building owner who wants me to be "an ambassador" & go over to building inspections to tell them he doesn't have to comply with 2 minor building code requirements. Yea. Sure. Right. Let me drop everything - NOT!
You with the full weight of your non-codes authority.

My tenure as an AHJ in a podunk jurisdiction included receipt of a forged letter by a shyster contractor who claimed a local inspector's signoff on a disputed budget item of a remodel. The letter was hilarious and signed by a ghost with my last name.

See pasted letter re voting to local official organ. How many among us still have official organs? If those organs get relegated to electronic blips, how reliable are their items?

  • voting time

Dear editor,

Republicans, having learned that voter roll growth and high voter turnout always push their candidates lower down the rungs of power’s ladder, have shepherded in a whole new flock of voting restrictions in several states since the autumn of 2020.

To diminish voter rolls they discourage new registrations in a number of ways.To counter turnout they make it harder for voters to get to polls and harder for them to sign in.Some eliminate ballot drop boxes. Others obstruct access to polling stations.

Some prevent the disabled, for example, from using couriers to deliver their absentee ballots.Voting restrictions are nothing new. They have come and gone before.

They do drag a long, dark and shaggy bag of regrettable history, but they are not permanent. They are as subject to change as the weather itself. The agents of that change are the voters themselves. The more voters speak the closer we get to officeholders that represent us, ourselves, the voters, instead of those shadowy figures that fund most, including the most laughable, election campaigns these days.

We can take heart in the fact that 67% of eligible voters cast votes in 2020,. That was the highest turnout since the year 1900, a year when only men, and only certain ones at that, could vote.

I am a Pete fanboy. That dude is just so articulate and capable. I am 50/50 on Duckworth. If you did it the other way Buttegieg / Duckworth I would be more interested.
Duckworth is pretty strong though. From a politically strategic perspective, she embodies almost every demo except white male.

Done voting. Do you have to vote for judges? I've always thought it's kind of dumb, but now I'm liking the idea that we can get rid of some of the governor's appointments.
The rest was the usual let the state legislature override citizen propositions and let's require 5 forms of ID with your mail in ballot. I have a feeling if I put all the personal information they were requesting on the mail in ballot, ballots would start getting stolen more often just for the info. Of course the GOP would blame the Dems.

Another conspiracy theory is killed in court.

"Special counsel John Durham’s latest trial ended Tuesday with not guilty verdicts on all charges against Igor Danchenko, the primary source for the Trump-Russia dossier.

It’s yet another major setback for Durham, the Trump-era holdover who has spent the past three years looking for misconduct related to the Russia investigation."

You know when we're like 80 the pee pee tape will be found and released, and we'll all want to watch it. Our kids and grandkids will just think we're crazy.

I dunno, that doesn't interest me. At least there could be a headline out there like, "Russian Hookers Urinating on Donald J Trump Still Maybe Possibly Hopefully".

I am hoping that there is a Scooby-Doo type reveal where we discover that Trump is actually Putin... or the other way around.

Mrs. Bubba and I both blocked off some time later this morning to get out and do the early voting thing...sadly, that won't make the vitriolic TV campaign ads stop nor stem the flow of junk political mailers into our mailbox.

Mail in voting is done. My wife gets all kinds of calls to take poles which she loves doing for some strange reason. She asked why I never get these calls especially since I'm independent. 1. I never answer calls I don't recognize. 2. I'm not on their list. You answer one of those things and they will keep coming back to you with new questions.

Our ads must include the look at me I'm tough wearing rolled up sleeves and a cowboy hat standing next to a border wall. I swear both sides do it. Any obligatory images in your ads beyond my opponent is an idiot?

Last cycle the ads generally featured farm equipment and/or shotguns. This cycle it is just both parties hammering on about my opponent is an evil idiot that wants to take x, y, and z from you.

Early voting was quick and easy - spent maybe all of four minutes in line.

Yep, confirmed - early voting did nothing to stop the barrage of sh*tty political ads and mailers.

Friend at work came up with a brilliant idea. Once you've voted you get a code to put in your TV, youtube, wherever you get ads and you get to send that ad to someone who hasn't voted yet.

I learned that there is an Office of Refugee Resettlement within the federal Department of Health and Human Services. Apparently they flew a group of minors who were 'undocumented' to a small town in New York and the republican's are flipping out about it.

Once again, I think it is wrong to make these people pawns in a pollical chess match, but I also think the hypocrisy of both sides is ridiculous.
The ORR has existed since 1948 and was formed post WW2 to aid in the resettlement of displaced persons in Europe that were lingering in DP/refugee camps after the war ended and they had nowhere to go. Subsequent Congressional authorizations allowing the admission other other refugees from Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Soviet bloc, the Middle East, Africa, Central & South America due to war, political uprising, and natural/economic disasters to be temporarily or permanently be resettled in the US. They partner with many local non-profit and social service agencies to do this work (disclosure: I was an employer of choice for refugees settling in Portland in the late 90s/early 00s so I saw this firsthand).

With the passage of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 the ORR became tasked with caring and placing unaccompanied immigrant minors. This duty previously was the purview of the former INS which is now USCIS. Vast majority of unaccompanied minors come across the US/Mexico border from Central America and Mexicos, are processed by USCIS/Homeland Security and then quickly released to the ORR (legally this is supposed to occur within 72 hours per the Flores settlement). There are temporary shelters and more permanent shelters where the kids stay while the ORR works to identify a parent/guardian or other suitable person to be released to. Sometimes this takes months and the end destination for the kids might be far away. The federal government isn't under any obligation to inform a two-bit mayor of a small NY town that they are relocating unaccompanied minors via chartered flight for more long term placement in the NY Metro area. They had chaperones, security staff, and case files for the kids. Also the ORR cannot just release an unaccompanied minor if they cannot find someone suitable to care for them. The do not put them on a plane back to their country of origin, they end up in group homes or in foster care. It is not remotely the same as what the mayors/governors in the southern states are doing just dumping adults off somewhere.

Congress is responsible for the dysfunctional and often callous immigration system that the U.S. has and we ALL suffer for that.

Yea. I didn't know any of that even existing until I posted about it on October 7th. I still think it is wrong that politicians are using people as political pawns though. I also stand by my statement that both sides are hypocritical.

The immigration program is a nightmare. A local business owner when through it about 5 years ago and hearing the BS that he had to deal with was unreal.

Do your own research.

I am guessing this is in response to the stupid number of political adds on TV right now? If so, I 100% agree.

I guess we now have "people" watching ballot drop off boxes wearing camo and of course packing. Seriously, you have nothing better to do than be an asshole and you think you're hiding in camo in a parking lot. Morons.

For a very good historical perspective read Flannery O' Connor's short story, "The Displaced Person", from 1963

Protip: If you're dropping off a ballot with a MAGA hat, you'll be left alone and can proceed with your vote. :grimace:

The recent Kanye and related acts of antisemitism following his comments are also a fun development... :explodinghead:
