NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

Trans people should get their own categories is my feeling. Trans born male or Trans born female categories. That is the most fair IMO.
You can ride, but you have to go to the back of the bus. That's the way that comes across to me.

I don't have an answer either. I like to think that trans athletes are not using their gender identity to give them an advantage, but biologically I think in many cases it does.

It's just one of those issues that is not (ahem) black and white.

And it's not even that simple because there are gender identities that aren't as simple is "born male" or "born female."
The Six Most Common Karyotypes:
  • XX – Roughly 1 in 2 (common female)
  • XY – Roughly 1 in 2 (common male)
  • XXY – Roughly 1 in 500 to 1 in 1,000
  • XYY – Roughly 1 out of 1,000
  • X – Roughly 1 in 2,000 to 1 in 5,000
  • XXXY – Roughly 1 in 18,000 to 1 in 50,000
The thing is, if the non-common people want to compete, the categories they would compete in would be very small, like less than a percent compared to the general population. So is there meaningful competition?

And then there are people who were in fact born XX or XY but identify as another gender.

There's a person I've seen who was working as a cashier in a hardware store, now works in a grocery store. This person has innately male characteristics but is apparently either gender fluid or still trying to figure it out. While working at the HW store, this person occasionally wore a dress and groomed as a female. But not always. I saw this person at the grocery store tonight... wearing a dress, has a bust (don't know if it's internal or external), but a bit of a 5 o'clock shadow. Female gendered hair with a bow, and cat-eye glasses.

I've seen this person around for a few years now and I want to express my support but then again it's none of my business where they are gender-wise. So I usually simply treat this person like I would any other cashier. It must be hard to navigate society when you're not one of the primary genders.

How is that more back of the bus then men and women competing in different categories? Should we just have one category for everyone? We all know how that would turn out.

I don't really care how you "identify". But if we are so damned concerned about equality then please tell me how someone who was born a male and competed as a male can then compete the following season as a female? How is that fair? Males and females are different. That's just biology. Sure there are some outliers but especially when you get to the top levels of competition I don't think a female is going to beat a male too many times.

How is the swimmer situation different than say Lebron James saying he now identifies as a woman? So can Lebron then go play in the WNBA? Gee, I wonder how that would turn out.

John Bolton was quoted as saying "I think in a second Trump term, the Russians would already be in Kyiv".

While I think this could be true, or at least a slight exaggeration, what are your thoughts?

I also think that Putin is doing this to 'aggravate/test/distract' Biden, but also to a degree at the pleasure of tRump (not at the direction of).

My son and I were talking about this yesterday. I do think Putin is testing American/NATO resolve to see if the four years of tRumpist insanity weakened western resolve.

Bent, perhaps, but not broken. But 2024 isn't that far off.

Boxes of tRump White House records found and taken from Mar-a-Largo.

Why am I not surprised.
But it's just the stuff I didn't want you to see. Don't you take records home with you so the public doesn't find what you actually said.

One item was the "love letter from Kim Jong Un"

So one of the documents FG stole and took to Mar A Lago was the infamous modified Hurricane Dorian map (SharpieGate). I've seen a number of tweets wondering "Why?" It seems quite obvious to me...for selling it off to the highest bidder in the future. Grifters gonna grift.

Anything for a buck mindset.

So much truth...

With one exception. It does not show entitlement mentality and cancel culture that prevents people speaking the truth if it isn't something that is accepted by the WOKE mob. Sometimes people won't express their opinion, even if it is right, out of fear of retaliation.

Actually...

Cancel culture is an objectively bipartisan activity.

I don't understand why people can't see that almost everyone participates in this. If I disagree with the actions to get something or someone removed/fired/deplatformed/censored, its cancel culture. If agree with the actions, I think they are getting rid of a bad actor.

The right has for years tried to get all sorts of people, media, books and other things banned or censored. The left seems like they have been better at pushing the issue lately. Its amazing that some people will talk about woke mob and cancel culture, but if you ask them about Kaepernick or The Dixie Chicks they think that's different because patriotism.

A lot of the time, I'm generally ok with people getting "cancelled" for doing/saying stupid things. If I do something stupid, my job is going to be cancelled. I liked the Dixie Chicks, but they probably had to know that many of their fans didn't have the same thoughts on the issues. I think what they did was pretty brave, but the outcome was pretty foreseeable.

My thing is trigger words. I keep hearing how conservative people can't use certain words because it would offend some woke person. I keep thinking it's the conservatives that have a lot of trigger words like sustainability, climate change, etc. Then again, most of it is just being polite to people. Whatever happened to that.

Not disagreeing, but can you provide recent examples where it was caused by the more conservative leaning perspective? I know at one point that the conservatives ran the cancel culture agenda, but it appears that the pendulum has fully swung the other way. But I am open to hearing examples otherwise.

Here are some:
CRT hysteria
Calling people snowflakes and also being so worried about getting their own feelings hurt
Book banning
State and national political party censures of members for upholding the Constitution
Public health mandates hysteria

EDIT: Now it's your turn to provide specific examples.

Just saw this.

O. M. G.

It's so hard to keep up. :p

Ok...mistakes happen, but this exemplifies A. Lincoln's famous quote - Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

Also, applicable to Joe Rogan and Whoopi Goldberg to name a few.

Gazpacho was always a trigger for me. Never knew why!

That isn't really cancel culture, but you bring up points of conservatives being in opposition.

What I am talking about is people Like Mike Lindell who helped fund Kyle Rittenhouse legal case. Or J.K. Rowling over her expressing concerns that Transgender Rights will ultimately engager woman's rights, which we are seeing play out with the Penn State Woman's Swim Team right now. We are seeing the attempt of it with Joe Rogan and we saw it with Aaron Rodgers in regards to COVID.

My point is there is a difference between 'canceling a person' than opposing an idea, and you bringing up those ideas proves my point. I personally believe that we could be a nation were we could opening discuss ideas and allow people to have their own opinions about things, and that we could engage in dialog about those ideas. Please note that I said I, because I know there are a lot of people on the far right that do not practice this same thought. That is why I like this forum board, most of us respect other people opinions, even if we disagree, whereas too many others in this country don't. We might engage in heated conversation over it, but at the end of the day we are still willing to have a beer with that person and share other thoughts and ideas where we might have common ground.

Hmm, actually ... Lincoln never said that. Twain didn't either. https://quoteinvestigator.com/2010/05/17/remain-silent/ (Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt – Quote Investigator) :halo:

I hear you, but it is cancel culture.

And both 'sides' do it. All. The. Time.

The important part is whether the 'cancelling' is through private market decisions or through the police powers/legal apparatus of the government.

If people 'cancel' Lindell by stop buying his pillows because they don't like his politics or the owner of Dr. Seuss' IP decide to stop publishing their own book, that's fine.

An elected school board banning Maus from their school library, because it makes them uncomfortable or whatever politically or uneducated reasoning, is not fine.

Fine. But it still stands as a worthy cultural maxim, regardless.

;)

I hate the gazpacho! Also not a fan of Manhattan clam chowder.

Agreed, this happens on both sides. My problem is when someone like Senator comedian guy from Minnesota (WTF was his name?) makes a mistake they all go nuts. When someone like dumb ass child molester from Florida (sorry, not remembering names right now) does something it's more like a one sided argument. Oh no, he said he didn't do it and why are you trying to cancel him. It was perfectly innocent. The problem with this cancel culture crap is that it seems to be handled different by the different parties. One attacks the person because they don't agree with them the other attacks the "crime" that happened. Sometimes the crime is a little blown out of proportion, but dude, Jewish space lasers doesn't get you canceled?

It's not fair. Somebody always gets screwed.
When the local women's volleyball teams began allowing transgender females (born male), my very petite sister and I would get knocked down on the court and ended up getting injured. We had to drop out.

Horrible political thought as I watched some super right wing woman run for something here. If you are truly following your super right wing Christian beliefs shouldn't you be at home raising the kids? Also, you're a single mom, couldn't you keep a man.

Nothing against single moms or women in office, just follow your beliefs to their logical conclusion or I will judge you by them.

So smearing shit on the walls of the capitol is legit discourse? Good to know.

I am thinking of dropping YouTube TV to simply not pay for Fox News. No local baseball or BTN, but it's gotten to that point. They are flat out Goebbels.

It has a certain monkey level of discourse to it.

In local news the brilliant state legislature wants to break up Maricopa County into 4 counties. So far it has made it past the elections board on party lines. I'm not going into all the how bad splitting up counties is on the delivery of service, cost to taxpayer, etc. end. You all know that being relatively smart people progressed beyond the monkey discourse at the capitol. Yes Maricopa is large enough to do that. Our counties in Arizona are usually 10x the size of your puny east coast counties. Not the point. They're doing it to cut up the votes. 1 county would be primarily democrat with the other 3 republican. Also they want revenge on the current county electeds who refused to cooperate with them on the phony audit thing. I should point out most of the if not all are republicans.

Jesus guns babies? Why would he do that to the babies?
This was basically the add I saw for my local woman running. It seems to be a republican woman you must support Jesus, guns, and babies - not to be confused with lawyers, guns, and money. Again, following your right wing Christian beliefs, you seem to be breaking your own belief.

I'm not going into all the how bad splitting up counties is on the delivery of service, cost to taxpayer, etc.
I will.

I bet it would cost literally billions of dollars to setup a county government.

The facilities and equipment alone, not to mention hiring personnel. Also, their would significant political costs of laying off personnel from the now shrunken county.

This would be a textbook definition of 'cutting off your nose to spite your face'.

These raw power grabs will lead to the breakup of the country in time. At some point California wont submit to being ruled by a president elected with like 10 million less votes. I dont think the union will hold. I hope I am dead first, but I may not get my wish.

Our county serves a population of 4.41 million and is 9,224 square miles. Most of it is desert. Not rural or unincorporated, desert. So we would be looking at gerrymandering the city of Phoenix and it's suburbs in the name of "helping" the one or two towns that aren't part of the city blob. We're talking these things times 4
  • County seats
  • Elected boards
  • Sheriff offices
  • Recorders, appraisers, etc.
  • Hospitals and health care systems (there is a county hospital somewhere)
  • Flood control (although that might be able to be kept under one county with IGAs)
  • Air quality (a really big thing here because of PM10)
  • Courts
  • Jails
  • Planning and zoning
  • Homeless services (we have a big center that does good things)
  • and the list goes on and on. The county provides more services than we though

FYI, this has no population consideration. The green is Scottsdale, wealthy areas mostly, and a lot of national forest, conservative. The yellow is more rural and desert and lots of retirement communities. Very conservative. The blue is mostly suburbs with a lot of retirement. Good mix, but mostly conservative. The red is the bulk of Phoenix to include the more Mexican neighborhoods which make it more liberal. You'll notice I didn't mention race in the other new counties. That's because it doesn't exist.

26 things Rick Scott's 'rescue' plan for America would do

I could agree with

11. The federal budget would be balanced and, if not, members of Congress would not be paid.
17. Politicians would be banned from becoming lobbyists when they leave office.

So disappointed in Bidens choice for SCOTUS. This isn't diversity really...only on a surface level...another ivy leaguer. Was really hoping for the judge from South Carolina.
