NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Political Discussion Thread

You probably don't get much exposure to it, but that sort of conspiracy theory stuff is quite commonplace and pretty much accepted as established fact in alt right circles/websites. You can get a taste of it in the public comments in many publications' online forums.

I've seen plenty of it. It just annoys me that much. :)

OMG. There is plenty to dislike about Clinton, but can we seriously stop with the unsubstantiated conspiracy theories that she had people murdered? Please?

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck....

It is not the only reason that I don't like her, heck it does not even make the top 5. But unless you have really looked into it and the number of people who she has been associated with have ended up dead, then the more you tell me to stop, the more I am going to post about it.

Trump is no better, but people have not died because of him.

What no mention of Trump computers talking with Russian banks and the Kremlin?

Can this please be over...I guess we have to wait fro Hannity to give out another false news story on Clinton (which he has admitted doing).

Nope, because no one is questioning it. Let's not forget how he treats small business owners by using threats of lawsuits that he will lose but they would result in bankrupting others just to get his way or save money.

On a side note, Clinton Associate Found DEAD

Yes, because it's clear that when anyone dies that has less than six degrees of separation from the Clintons they were murdered by Hillary. 8-!

My parents attended a Bill Clinton campaign event back during his first Presidential campaign - should I be worried???

You mean they're not dead already!? You're parents are survivors.

I wonder is Hill sits back and laughs at all of us with either, those idiots really think I have people killed or those idiots don't even have a clue how many bodies I've buried.

I get such a kick out of all the rhetoric from folks saying "Hillary is going to take your guns . . . " I seem to remember the same fear mongering 8 years ago. But last I checked, there are still plenty of guns for everybody. On the list of things to be worried about what a new president is going to do, that is pretty low on the list for me. And I'm a gun owner too.

Sure, and Bernie Madoff is just a good business man and Aubrey McClendon just a natural gas salesman.

Don't know. Do they have dirt on Hillary that might cause her issues?

I agree. Personally, I do hope that there is some type of compromise for background checks. I am worried about ammunition availability though. I might need to start loading my own.

Nothing surprises me anymore. Given many trolls' inability to use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, it's understandable that they are not communicating in their primary language.

And all this time I thought that CNN used proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Fox, not so much.

I so want Hillary to take care of a couple bodies for me today. Do you think it would help if I let it slip that my inspector isn't voting for her and he's "suddenly" decide to come out and talk about how she abused him as a child or something like that?

It would be worth a try. It worked when someone did not like pickles.

I am not sold that Trump isn't actually a Clinton plant to swing the election her way. Think about all the crazy stuff he has said and done since he was nominated. She is just digging up stuff on him to make it look real.

Could be. I've never felt Trump was serious about the run for pres. and just got sucked into it somehow. I always figured it was a publicity stunt to up his ratings for the Apprentice or give him negotiating power for a new show. The same way I figure a lot of people in the primary were just running for a new book deal, but now that you mention it, Trump has said in the past how much he likes the Clintons. It just looks like Hills plan worked better than she ever expected. She was just using him to discredit Cruz, but she ended up taking down the whole GOP.

FB friends: almost to the cluB

Hovering in the 990s for several days now. Every evening I tend to see lots of supportive documentation for a certain candidate and so forth, share it, by morning I have a couple fewer friends. Then I "meet" some more brass bandies or cyclists and it drifts up again.

Today I zapped two people. One was a service provider who shot some video for me years ago, and the other is a short compensating work-from-cafe type who can be rational about some topics (bicycle safety). I've also noticed tendencies for Those People tm to go on and on and on, jumping on every post, multiple links to various FOX-based sites, hurling insults. (The one got confused, raging at another friend of mine, and he forgot that he was posting on my wall rather that hers.)

Is anyone else surprised that HRC has not found more dirt on Trump. I mean come on, this guy is as shady as they get, yet overall the only thing that has been confirmed and verified was that he said mean things and that there are several woman who are coming forward with claims that he assaulted them, but there is no police reports so far.

I really thought that there would be hard evidence that he was a crook tied in with the mob or some other career ending information that would have come out. Granted there are still 5 more days, but still...

Of course she hasn't. Trump has more money to pay people to be quiet than Clinton has to pay people to open their mouths. Trump is no fool, if he has ties to the mafia he's many layers outside and tying those loose ends together would take years. It's not like the HRC camp had much time to vet Trump considering he wasn't a major player until mid-2015. There were certainly offhanded comments that he was going to run, but no one took those seriously. Hell, no one took him seriously with his actual announcement until he started winning primaries. Plus, it doesn't pay for Clinton to find anything and release it, she'd be seen as just as big of a bully as Trump, and could alienate fringe voters. Her camp could certainly leak it to the press and let them take credit for finding it, but in the end it would come back to her somehow.

There was some article about him and a mob connection. It was kind of a, "do you know this well know mobster?" No. "So that's not you with your arm around him in your casino?" I may have met him, but I don't know him. So the gaming commission didn't bust your casino for comping him stuff like new cars which was against the law and he was at your casino all the time and...you get the idea.

I think there's nothing on The Donald because private business isn't open like government work is. So he shredded his confidential, illegal papers and emails legitimately unlike the other lady. I'm more afraid of big business than I am of government. Government at least tries to look after people. Companies like Toyota make decisions not to do a recall because the cost would be higher than the X number of lawsuits they would get from lives lost.

Let's shift gears for a moment and talk about the electoral college and the structure of national elections.

Personally, I am not a fan of the current system and would like to see the following:

  • Reasonable and fair redistricting that follows county or municipal boundaries. No more weird gerrymandering districts. For major cities that are broken into multiple districts, having a reasonable justification for how it is divided up that use neighborhoods or similar definable characteristics such as major street divisions that break up the city into quadrants, or similar features.
  • Having the electoral votes broken up based on who wins that congressional district for all states. The two senate votes would go based on the popular vote for that state.
  • Having the winner be the person who gets the most electoral votes. Not 270, but just the highest number of the candidates.

The other aspect of it is the popular vote question. My only concern with that is if we really went that route, than we would need to wait to make sure all of the absentee ballots, provisional ballots, and early ballots are checked and counted before anything can be announced.

I also don't think that the poll results for any state should be published until all the polls in the US are closed and counted. The race should be one announcement for all results.

What are your thoughts? Do you like the current Electoral College where winner takes all for most of the states?

I just heard they connected the dots about Mike Pence's plane sliding off the runway the other day. It was actually Hillary Clinton's doing & she was trying to "get rid" of him. :D

I doubt you'll get much arguing over the gerrymandering thing.

I hate the electoral college. I'm all for a popular vote system. We have the technology, we can do this.

As far as declaring the ballot winners and losers I don't have a lot of opinion or knowledge. I would say declare it when you've got a result, but I can see how it would sway voters in western states to change their vote or go out and vote based on idiot #1 winning the east coast so vote for idiot #2. Then again, by the time that happens I think those few votes might not make a difference.

She would definitely have motive. And it is said she is 'nasty'. Also, it's been documented that people she has known have died in the past. I don't know about you, but that's pretty conclusive proof of a conspiracy right there.

I like the idea of the electoral votes for each state being doled out according to which candidate wins each individual district with the two senate ones going to the popular vote winner. However, this would really have to be combined with some sort of change to the redistricting process at the state-level. I think Iowa is usually held up as a good example of the redistricting process after each Census - those involved in the redistricting process in Iowa are not allowed to consider previous election results or voter registration when drawing up the new lines and politicians and their staff are not allowed on the committee. Districts are truly created to conform to having as compact of boundaries as possible and follow contiguous county (or groups of whole contiguous counties) boundaries.

Of course, this works very well when the most populous county in the state has only about 430,000 residents but the same concept could easily be used in other states. If the county has too many people on its own for just one district, move down to groups of city/village/township boundaries or school district or ZIP Code boundaries.

I agree, in states like IL or NY for example, Chicago and NYC would be broken into multiple districts whereas the rural areas within both states might be a collection of multiple counties. But this snake like zig zag is a load a crap.

The news is reporting that in NC, 43% of registered voters voted early.

Did you vote early if it was an option in your state? Would you rather vote early? I decided to because I was not going to have time to actually make it to the polls.

On a side note, this weekend was an explosion of political crap on FB and TV. I am quite positive that if you don't know who you are going to vote for by now, the rock that you have been living under must be a wonderful place. It is not just one side, but both sides.

However, Tide did post something on FB that I did find very interesting.... Apparently out of 500,000 leaked e-mails from wiki-leaks, none of them talked about how to help the American people, but how to help Hillary win. I can't vouch for the validity of it, but it raises two questions.
1) Were there e-mails talking about helping the people that were just not leaked?
2) Does anyone really think that the overwhelming majority of the E-mails from Trump's campain are anything but ideas on how to help him get elected?

I voted absentee about a month ago because I may not have time to make it to the poll tomorrow. If Michigan had early voting, I'd definitely use it for the Presidential elections. Most of the times, I can walk right in and vote during primaries and non-presidential elections but when there is a presidential election it seems that there is a 45+ minute wait (2008 was the worst I had seen it with about a 90 minute wait).

I did not. I am voting tomorrow after work. I just want to see the total chaos that occurs there. I don't care how long the wait is, I know it's going to be intense and I want to see it in action.

We have a TV in the kitchen/break room here at the office that's usually kept on CNN Headline News(or whatever they call that channel these days) - they've been babbling all morning about NC being THE battleground state. Have fun tomorrow.

We sortof do have early voting. The clerks have better things to do than run the equivalent of a residency requirement -- the easiest box to check is "planning to be away on election day." In my fair city, the clerk was open last Sunday (first time ever) and got about 350 voters.

Watch for no-reason absentee voting to be implemented in the next couple of years.

:mi:

We've got a line around the corner at the clerk's office. I just keep hoping they don't all vote for the big orange.

I think Trump will win NC. The Dems only get NC if the students go out in force and vote. I suspect young folks like me are still pretty salty about Bernie and might stay home (or leave the POTUS spot blank like I'll be doing). They could even cast a protest ballot and put Trump down, but I think that will be rare. 1976 and 2008 are the only two years NC went blue since the state firmly went red in 1968.

We have seen a huge increase in early voting numbers too, specifically with the unaffiliated crowd, which makes it really hard to measure.

I am not so sure if Trump will win. There are so many people who are angry with the McCrory that I wonder if it will also push things towards Clinton for the Presidential election. Regardless, it will be super close.

Trump will be in Raleigh this afternoon and Clinton will be here right before midnight... allegedly Madonna will be with her.

I did early voting this time. I'm usually a traditionalist and vote on the day, but I got stuck in an awful line in 2014 and early voting was available literally across the railroad tracks from me in the main city hall building.

I'll get my dose of election day tomorrow since I usually walk across to the main city hall 2-3 times a day.

I'm also part of an electoral map betting pool. I was late in joining, so I don't think my map is the most likely to win. :(

Does anybody here have a non-traditional locale for a voting precinct?

I live in a major metro so there are plenty of schools and government buildings and churches to work at polling places but I remember seeing an article leading up to the 2012 election that showed people, especially in sparsely populated rural areas, that had relatively odd places for voting precincts: Somebody's garage, an old bar, stockroom of a grocery store, American Legion hall, etc. Any Cyburbians vote somewhere like that?

FWIW, my precinct is nothing interesting - just a high school. But it's conveniently located just a block from my house.

I will ask the clerk just out of curiosity to see if any of the small towns have odd voting places.

I am voting tomorrow because early voting didn't offer "kids voting". My daughter wants to vote so we will go either before or after school/work. I don't think it will be that bad because my county has had 47% voter turn out for early voting. There can't be many out there that will vote tomorrow. My precinct general has a higher early voting turn out than most other precincts because the early voting location and my precinct voting location is the same place. I should be in and out in 15 minutes tops seeing that there is no longer a voter ID requirement.

Clerk says nothing strange in our county. We use schools and a couple government buildings like our expo hall.

The county north of us uses rural fire stations.

Mine is in a baptist church that also has a preschool. If I did not have a busy day, I would have signed up to be a poll watcher just to see who would spontaneously combust when they walked in.

I'm not even going to try and call NC. My county is fairly red, but I've heard lots of talk about McCrory was good when he was the mayor of Charlotte, but when he got to Raleigh, the state GOP forced him pretty hard, basically saying he would have zero support from them if he was not. The state house & senate have done some pretty wild things that have turned out to be unconstitutional and overturned. This has soured several people by them working on marginal issues then having to spend millions of dollars in lawsuits (this coming from some pretty strong R's I know). They don't want either HRC or the "Hairy Cheeto" and are unsure about the state legislature too. Roy Cooper is getting backing.

The Senate race is big too with Burr vs. Ross. Ross is finding lots of support, just like Cooper.

My view maybe skewed because of the demographics here. For example, our paper only runs nationally syndicated conservative opinion articles if they don't have any Letters to the Editor to publish.

Mines in a park district field house. Apparently some polling places in Chicago include bars, restaurants, laundromats, bowling alleys, car dealers and so on.

Judging by the stories I hear about Chicago there must also be some polling places in cemeteries and graveyards out there! :p

I'm willing to put money that Cooper wins. Both of my parents voted for him, and they are as far right as you can possibly get. Both of them most likely voted for Trump too. If my parents voted for him, I suspect there are A LOT more R's out there too. I'm surprised at the amount of agreement here that both presidential options suck, and no one is really keen on voting for either person. State legislature might see a dramatic shift because of HB2.

Burr vs. Ross is a dead heat I think. It could go either way. Again, both my parents voted for Ross, which is rare for them to do. They usually punch straight ticket. I still think Burr will hold on though, but Ross has had a ton of contributions flowing in the last few months, and has out-raised Burr by almost 2 million dollars.

My polling place is in a church. I haven't really seen many oddball polling places out here in the burbs. Churches, government buildings, schools, recreation/community centers, etc. seem to be constitute the vast majority of polling places. I do remember several retirement home polling places in my college town.
