NEVERENDING ♾️ The NEVERENDING Bicycle Thread

Rode 23 miles in Muscatine yesterday. Very nice trail system for a small city. This will be a part of the national trail someday,

The gutter pan should never be part of the bike lane. As a practical matter there is often a lip between that and the blacktop that can cause accidents.

A great story about everyday bike transport and electric assist tech - Granola Shotgun
A friend of mine, whom I met through cycling, works in Dallas. He rides an ebike about 8 miles to the Ft Worth train station, hops a commuter train to Dallas, rides the ebike another 5 miles to his office, then does the opposite in the afternoon. He can do it with an ebike; he tried with regular bike and found it to be too much every day.

Here’s the beginning of reviving my Trek 970, which I’ve had since new in 1996. Probably end up just making it a townie.

I plan to do most of the work myself, but I had to spend a little this weekend to have the local bike shop use some brute force to dislodge the 'frozen' seat post. I would have done it, but I don't have a work bench and table top vice.

Pro-tip: aluminum and steel fuse together if not separated regularly.

Nice. My primary is an old Cannondale H200 hybrid from about that time. I love it. I have an old school mountain bike from back then too. It is very heavy by today's standards. It's a Jazz made by Trek.

@Shellac And Vinyl VelocitY requested MOAR BIKE POSTS so here we go:

I did 50 miles this weekend- 26 on my Saturday breakfast ride

It was cold at the start: 35°F, but warmed into the 60s by the end of the ride.

I rode 24 on my pub crawl ride Sunday night. It was in the 60s all night long, but there was a pretty stiff breeze out of the south, about 15 mph, and it tried its darnedest to keep me from getting home at the end of the night. When I finally got home was exhausted.

I've been trying to take my bike for tuneup but there's either torrential rain or deep snow. Maybe I'll take it tomorrow since I have to be down that way. Our trails are still too mushy to ride.

I'm piecing together parts for a wheel build and spokes have gone through the dang roof. (I use Sunny Spokes, have had really good luck with him) I build a set of wheels for one reason or another about every other year and have never been able to justify a spoke threading machine, but every time I do this I kick myself.

New bike day for me tomorrow. Pretty excited to get back into riding. Been wanting a fat bike for a long time, just couldn't pull the trigger. I have lost 35 lbs since November (when I was the heaviest I've ever been). Told my self when I got down to 240, I'd treat myself to a new bike to help lose another 40. Picking it up tomorrow.

One time I had the idea to ride to Kenosha, WI in January, its mostly trails from Chicago (follows an old interurban line) and the trail in parts was like quicksand, I had no idea the material they used could get so saturated with water, doesn't seem to be a problem in the summer, though puddles can linger for days, really wish some of these trails would be paved.

You'll love it! One piece of advice- get a 29er wheelset for the non-fat seasons if you want to- I love my fattie on big 29s in the summertime!

Good idea. I still have my 26" single speed, too. Haro SS frame, lots of carbon, Chris King hubs with stupid light rims. Love the sound of the angry bees. With rigid fork, weighed in at a svelte 17.7# However, I am no longer svelte.

Nothing like a little Sunday Night Pub Crawl to end the weekend right (and make me drag on Monday morning). Good ride until the very end when I had to battle a 15-20 mph headwind for the last 7 miles.

I took my first bike ride yesterday afternoon. We rode about 14 miles and had dinner afterward.

My bike's steering was a little stiff, so I'll take back to the shop today. I had it tuned up a couple of weeks ago, so I know they'll adjust it for me.

Rode 36 miles Saturday. First longer ride this year.

This is the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. Its a converted old rail line. This is the old Depot in Center Point IA which has been converted to a museum/rest area for bikers.

Here's an article about a new rails-to-trails project on the west side of Fort Worth. I've actually ridden this route in the past; it's largely overgrown but the old rail bed is still a halfway decent surface for most of the route. There was an old rail bridge over a major thoroughfare that has been removed since rode the rail trail; they will need to put a new bridge in. I think part of the reason they removed it is that it didn't have enough clearance to the road surface.

The new trail section is the one on the left side of the map: Proposed Trail Connection (Long Term). It will complete an extensive loop from downtown to the southwest side, up to the northwest side (including a great little park with a waterfall and butterfly garden) then back to downtown.

Tomorrow begins our 4-day ride from Boston, PA, to Cumberland, MD, on the Great Allegheny Passage. We'll stay at a hotel and two B&B's.

We ride PartyPace, and have a lot of time each day to ride to our destination.

I bought a partypace sticker for my bike. Totally my pace as well.

We bought my (almost just) 6 foot tall 12 yr old son this decent new cruiser bike yesterday from the Marts of Wal.

We went with a basic (7 speed) inexpensive ride for him, since he's young and if he wants a nicer ride than we'll look into a better brand (Trek, Specialized, etc), because, due to his likely height by then, we'll need to special order an extra large frame.

He's happy with it though and this will hopefully encourage him to ride to friends' houses or meet with friends at third locations this summer.

Love the bike. I had a Salsa hardtail MTB back when I worked at the bike shop. Had a Bianchi road bike in classic Celeste Green, which is what that color looks a lot like.
I think this was supposed to be USFS green like the old trucks but I love it- there's just a tiny bit of gold metalflake in it that really pops when it's clean. I should clean it more often...

If you're gonna buy a box-store bike, simpler (like this one) is best! I dig the cupholder.

Well, the one we bought didn't have the cup holder, so we have to get one soon as well as a simple chain combo lock.

As for box-store bikes, they have a Kent brand single speed, coaster brake cruiser for only $99, which is a nice deal for a basic, easy ride with a truly perfected design. The one we got was about ~$218, which isn't bad either.

Dang dude, what have you been feeding him?

Dang dude, what have you been feeding him?
Food...and lots of bovine growth fluid (aka milk). :p

He's likely getting this from several sides of our extended families. And he's not just tall. He's solid.

His destiny likely is...

Not just tall:

And part of the reason for getting the bike is regular physical activity so he doesn't end up Tall and (too) Big.

I know what he's going through. Between the Swedish and Dutch in my background and a German influenced diet, I know the drill.

After years of letting my bikes hang in my garage, I am making a effort to get back to riding again. The last time I ordered bike parts, I used a catalog... so where do cyburbian cyclist buy bike parts? I need a new seat, new tires & tubes, and possibly new cables.

Nashbar is a decent one stop shop for ordering parts online.

But unless you have bike maintenance/repair skills and/or the proper tools, I recommend just having a tuneup/overhaul performed by a local independent bike shop.

Shop local.

I bought a bicycle from SixThreeZero. I haven't owned a bicycle in many years despite my youth spent riding one around everywhere. I CAN still ride a bike though, there were some beach cruisers in Cape May at a place we stayed at. It was a little wobbly at first (mostly because it was a gravel road) but it came back pretty quickly.

I went with a 3 speed EVRYjourney model in blue as it seemed to hit most of the marks I was looking for. I live in a flat beach town and all of the road speeds have been reduced to 25 or 30 MPH and there isn't a lot of traffic so I feel safe pedaling around. https://www.sixthreezero.com/products/womens-evryjourney-touring-hybrid-bike/?variant=301061046273 (Women's Sixthreezero EVRYJourney Hybrid Cruiser Bike - 7 Speed 26 Inch Ladies Comfort Bicycle (Great For City Commutes & Good Reviews) Sixthreezero Bike Co.)

The bike has shipped and should arrive after Xmas. Some assembly is required but it looked pretty straightforward. Now that I am working from home 4 days a week I need to get some physical activity and go outside more.

I have been riding a lot, gearing up for an Aquabike Race on June 4.

I get passed by old people on E-Bikes. I mutter cheater under my breath each time.

Thanks to a bum knee from my young and dumb stage and getting older, I thought about getting one myself. I also live where it's hot and humid most of the year. I haven't ridden my bike in years.

Sometimes, the only way a person can enjoy a bike ride is on an ebike. A few people in my group have health conditions and need the assist.

I've noticed that people are going straight to ebikes, like the two teenagers I saw rising ebikes on the sidewalk. Sure, they both might have health conditions and need those bikes, but I doubt it.
