What do you think is the least cool car of all time? And do you base that choice on the lack of aerodynamic qualities? Boxy unimaginative shape? Utterly poor performance? Falls apart after 10,00 miles? Some unnamable aesthetic characteristic? There can be any number of qualifying criteria but make your choices and support your argument. What is the least "cool" car of all time?

For sale in the American market? It's an import.

Or, if you prefer something that's not Japanese ...

The winner of this thread, though, is all American.

K Cars are unreliable. But with some elbow grease, they are actually the Shiznit and are total sex bomb-ombs. Gen 1 box K's and the Gen 2 Spirit/Acclaim. 1982-1995 production run over two generations, it was Iacocca's answer to America's problems. I work under a portrait of an '88 Reliant K, literally.

Cybertruck is the only acceptable answer. Yugo GV comes close, AMC Pacer is a contender, Pinto could be in there too, but all those are historic vehicles at this point, and thus have become cool again for that alone.

Azteks are awesome, they came with a factory tent!

I honestly think Exotics are really really lame and not cool at all. They cost six figures (sometimes over a mil), they make way to much power for anyone to need and are deadly death traps that serve as absolutely nothing but status symbols. If I could afford a Veyron, I would buy a whole empty block in Buffalo and park 150 K Cars, Volvos, Box Hondas, old Buicks and Dodge Dart's & Square Body Chevy pickups on.

We had a brown K-Car at my first planning job in 1984 - can't remember if it was a Reliant or Aires.

Ran it through a large puddle one time & it stalled out. I sat there panicked for a few moments & tried to start it back up. Thank goodness it started.

A friend of mine that loves turning a wrench picked up a 2009 Ferrari 458 that had some gremlins for the cost of a kidney and part of a liver (versus both kidneys). I helped him on an oil change once, and it was about the most annoying basic thing I've ever done on a vehicle. Stupid dry sump system that makes draining/refilling particularly unpleasant, and getting the skid plates off makes you want to rip your hair out. I swear it took 3 hours. I told him to sell it and buy a Corvette if he wanted a sports car.

And theyre hard to drive! Having a rear engine making 800whp does a number on trying to steer straight. So many rich guys buy them, than crash them thinking they can just drive it like any ol Mercedes C Class.

To the topic...

I would submit the Dodge Intrepid as part of the 90s/2000s era of uncool cars. The 2.7L engine in particular seemed to be a basket case that would end up with sludging and burned oil about as fast as gas. So it was unsexy, underperforming and unreliable. Absolutely incredible that the same company that was producing the Dodge Viper was at the same time producing this garbage pail of a boring, uncool car.

Cloud Cars and Neon's deserve to be on the list. That's what Chrysler killed the K Platform off for. Horrible build quality all around, like the 1980s were the doldrums for GM, I feel like 1989-2008 was Chrysler's equivalent period.

It is ironic considering that yes the Viper was a thing, and Chrysler kept the XJ Cherokee (best jeep ever) going until 2001. GM had the same vibe in the 80s, made mostly crap but also had the Grand National.

I am curious what you would classify as exotics? The reason for my question is some of these manufactures have models that are a lot like others on the market. The Lamborghini Urus is much different than the Revuelto. The Audi A3 is not the R8. And even some of the Aston Martins are more like family sedans than sports cars.

Is a Lexus SUV normal whereas the Porsche SUV is exotic?

Im referring to supercars, like the Aventedor, Ford GT and Bugatti Veyron etc. Usually rear engined, making way too much hrsprs and cost big six figure prices.

That makes sense.

On topic... there is this:

Reminds me of all the guys in the 70's and 80's that were building the real-life versions of hot wheels cars.

I would argue Porsche is not exotic as a brand, but it does produce some exotics. A GT3 is gonna run you north of $400K, but you can also get their little Macan SUV for $60K which is entry luxury really. Ford is a non-luxury that produces one outlier vehicle with the Ford GTD ($325K or so). Ferrari, by contrast, is squarely in the exotics category with the cheapest offering being around $280K. Lambo, Bugatti, Aston Martin, etc. all generally hang out in that space.

7-10k can also get you a pretty cosmetically nice air cooled 911, although at those prices it will not run great and would need lots of work.

EDIT: those were 2015 prices stuck in my head. Your non runner ratted out air cooled 911 in 2025 is going to run like 12-15k bare minimum. Actual cherry survivors that run are asking 30-80k on marketplace, with Hemmings and actual classifieds having them in the low six figures for actual low mileage cream puffs.

Im literally never owning a Porsche, unless someone gives me a ratted out 944. Those are pricey too. As much as I respect the air cooled stuff and I do like 944s cosmetically, F Porsche. Box Volvos and Diesel Benz fill my fancy car quotient.

I feel ya... my dream car would be an Audi RS6 Avant. Basically a shooting-brake style car that has a couple extra doors
