I am of the opinion that CCR is one of the most often overlooked and underrated bands out there. They were in fact one of the greatest American rock bands in an era that spawned more musical creativity and innovation than any other.

Great tunes include Susie Q:

Born on the Bayou:

The guitar solo beginning at 1:30 is particularly notable, as it departs from the then super popular fashion of lightning fast solos with cascades of notes. No, Fogerty slow walks this one all the way through settling on perfect tonality accompanied with a groovin' walking base line.

Down on the Corner:

There are loads more. In fact, I don't think there's such a thing as a 'bad' CCR tune.

CCR was great. Most of the records my mom had were things like The Carpenters; Peter, Paul & Mary; The Mamas & The Papas and then a bunch of Motown stuff but she also had Cosmos Factory, Bayou Country, and Green River and she'd play those around the house a lot so I heard a lot of it growing up and still listen to a lot of Creedence today.

CCR is also notable for having the most songs reach #2 on the pop charts without ever having a #1 hit. I've known that little tidbit for a long time (I forget where I originally heard it) but Slate actually devoted an early episode of their "Hit Parade" podcast to that to talk about those #2 CCR songs and the songs that blocked them from reaching #1. My parents listened to CCR. I remember dad singing along in the car, and since he can't carry a tune, we would always turn the radio up to drown him out!

Still like to hear their music.
 
John Fogerty had to go to court to secure the right to sound like himself!

Long Road Home, 2005 album, is live concert and one of my faves.

Sorry, not a CCR fan. They were on the radio when I was a child and always thought the were meh. I also consider them baby boomer music.
 
I was like "CCR is OK" until I was about 20 and I hopped in a friend's car and he threw on Ramble Tamble. Starts off great, but stick around for the tempo change at 1:40 and everything that happens after that, especially the build that starts around 3:00:

Most lists I see say CCR hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 five times, but Travelin' Band and Who'll Stop the Rain both hit #2. There are a lot of technicalities around the Billboard charts and these two songs were both on the same single so that probably explains why they are not counted separately (but none of the other sides of those singles in your list hit #1 on their own).

Sounds to me like you also are not a Big Lebowski acolyte. The Dude's Credence tapes were high on the list of missing items when his car was stolen. The police put extra staff on the effort for their recovery.

My favorite CCR songs have always been some of their slower stuff. I think probably either Long as I Can See the Light or Someday Never Comes.
 
You have my condolences. It features a very young Phillip Seymour Hoffman, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro, and of course Jeff Bridges as the Dude.

I have an older brother that was Mr. Off-Color, always ready with the risque joke that embarrassed the female side of any gathering. Just after Lebowski was released he brought his new girlfriend, his senior by five years, extremely conservative and frankly tight-assed, to a
family event, where I asked if he saw the film. New girl stood right beside him. He said they went but walked out after ten minutes because there was just too much foul language!

My eyebrows hit the ceiling. They are still together but never married. I doubt he ever saw the whole film. He serves her still as a lapdog and step n' fetchit.

I was so sure that "Let It Be" would have been the one to block Travelin'Band/Who'll Stop The Rain...
 
When we were in Memphis for just one day on the way to Arkansas in 2007, we heard "Proud Mary" so many times no the radio that my then 9-year old son was actually singing the chorus "Rollin, rollin' rollin.." by the 3rd hearing. Great times.

CCR has another Tiny Desk concert just posted the other day. Fogerty includes an original song that applies to right now, about folks walking around in fear. His rendition of "..Long as I can see the light" features a saxophone.
AI tells me he turns 80 this year!

I came back to this thread yesterday when I saw it pop back up to register my appreciation for Ramble Tamble but saw that I had already done so and restrained myself.
