I have the feeling the Mariner's 2025 season was a fluke.
 
Andruw Jones finally elected to the baseball HoF. Finally, after what, nine years of eligibility? The collective idiocy/arrogance of the writers that vote on that never ceases to amaze me...

Jones can't be old enough to have retired and be eligible for the HoF. He's my age. (Seeing he retired in 2012.) In other news, I'm old.
 
Not sure what HoF voters have ever been looking for from centerfielders, but it is a crime Jimmy Edmonds fell off the ballot after just one year. Congrats to Carlos and Andruw for getting there, but man, Jimmy was a baller.
 
Next week starts it all over again.

All MLB teams will play exhibitions March 3-4 against national teams prepping for the World Baseball Classic, which opens March 6. In the Tampa area. That includes:

  • Colombia vs. Pirates at Bradenton, March 3, 1:05 p.m.
  • Netherlands vs. Orioles at Sarasota, March 3, 1:05 p.m.
  • Panama vs. Yankees at Tampa, March 3, 1:05 p.m.
  • Canada vs. Blue Jays Dunedin, March 3, 1:07 p.m.
  • Canada vs. Phillies at Clearwater, March 4, 1:05 p.m.
  • Colombia vs. Braves at North Port, March 4, 1:05 p.m.
  • Netherlands vs Rays at Port Charlotte, March 4, 1:05 p.m.

The season opener is the night of March 26, with the Yankees at the San Francisco Giants. The traditional Opening Dry begins the following afternoon with 14 games. That's a week earlier than normal to accommodate the World Baseball Classic.

The son of one of my wife's friends is a non-roster invitee to the Dodgers spring training - he'll start the season at either AA or AAA for them, but getting to be part of the major league camp for a week or two will be an awesome experience for him.

Great timing considering that a new CBA needs to be negotiated, especially with the owners wanting a salary cap (thanks, Dodgers!). The players being locked out as soon as the current CBA expires is about a 98% reality for now...

Hardly a star, but he was looking like a solid DH for this season. Yaz and Eli White should be a good OF platoon, but the prospect of a DH rotation (without the Braves trading for an everyday DH) is suboptimal.
