Went to the CLTFC v NY Red Bulls match Saturday. A nice 2-0 win for us!

Met 2 cousins & spouses prior to the match for lunch, got caught up on families & ailing parents. It was all impromptu as none of us knew we had tickets for the match. Earlier in the week I texted one of them who lives there and asked about a place to eat, then he replied they were going to the match & he'd meet us there. Then the other texted about July 4th plans, & I responded about meeting for lunch with the other cousin. They had match tickets too we all decided to meet. After lunch we all went to the game but sat in different sections.

US vs El Salvador tonight.

These CONCACAF away games are always hard for the USMNT. Tonight is no different. Grenada was a throw away game. They should still win tonight. I want to see goals from the #9 slot in this game,

What a sloppy, chippy, ugly match - I'm almost happy with a draw.

England is PITIFUL.
Germany hit Italy hard too.

That was one of the most brutal matches I have seen in a while. Part of it was the conditions, part of it is good ole Central American CONCACAF black magic.

All things considered a 1-1 tie was good, but they still should have won. Had a lot of good chances. Musah is an incredible talent. If he could just be a little better finishing.

LOL at England because they think they are going to walk all over us. We will see...

Went to the CLTFC v Chelsea friendly last night. Good game overall & CLTFC won on pens.

Game was delayed for an hour due to a t-storm rolling through.

Chelsea had a display of the major trophies. Premier League Champions, Champions League Winner, Europa Cup Winner, FA Cup Winner, League Cup Winner.

Minnesota United wipes out Everton.

To me it shows that the EPL is very top heavy and MLS teams could compete with mid and lower table teams.

Saw this from an Everton supporter:

The one positive I am clinging on to is it is reassuring to watch Everton already on mid-season form.

Lower English division club Rochdale has released a new jersey - which really isn't bog news because everyone is releasing a new jersey. However this on is a bit special because it shows a map of the area around the stadium as a printed design in the fabric (I just wish the sponsor was on it).

LAFC win their first MLS Cup over Philadelphia Union (on the same night the Phillies lost the World Series, but hey the Eagles are still undefeated).

Boca v Racing for the Argentinian League Championship saw 10 red cards and called the match with a few minutes left in extra time.

It was odd not to watch early morning EPL⚽️this morning.

World Cup starts tmrrw. I’m going on record now to say at least one player will be arrested for one of Qatar’s cultural laws.

I heard that Qatar spent $200 BILLION in preparations for hosting the 2022 World Cup

Even former FIFA president Sepp Blatter says awarding the World Cup to Qatar was a mistake.

Are y'all watching or boycotting?

I'll be watching - it's soccer.

Had the England v Iran game in the conference room next door to my office. When I heard the announcer yell GOAL, I walked over & watched the reply...& there were lots of goals from the 3 Lions.

US v Wales @ 2:00, but there'll probably be a reply tonight like there was for the opening match yesterday.

Are y'all watching or boycotting?

Not watching because I just don't care. I swear that's not a dig at those of you here who enjoy soccer. It's fine. I have nothing specifically against it but it does absolutely nothing for me in terms of playing or watching. And I played for several seasons in middle school and was actually pretty good. But it just didn't captivate me. For me, one of the best days every four years is when the USA is eliminated from the World Cup and I can stop pretending I care about soccer. Sorry soccer fans, but that's where I am on it.

I'll be watching. I'll be traveling during Germany's first match. I hope someone on the train will be watching and I can peer over their shoulder.

This headline from The Mirror does not surprise me at all:

Wales supporters have reportedly drunk a bar in Qatar dry ahead of their first World Cup match since 1958 later on Monday.

Well I was enjoying this world cup until today. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭👎👎👎👎

Germany missed so many chances I'm told!

Strange results happening. Croatia & Morocco draw, Saudi upset Argentina, Denmark & Tunisia draw :insane: :omg:

There's been some interesting results and major upsets.

USMNT needs to beat Iran to move into next round
Canada is out

Beijing 2008 - Summer Olympics
Sochi 2014 - Winter Olympics
Russia 2018 - FIFA World Cup
Beijing (AGAIN!), 2022 Winter Olympics
Qatar 2022 - FIFA World Cup.

5 major events under authoritarian regimes over the past 15 years. Hundreds dead in Qatar alone just building these overblown stadiums that will only be used once. How was this even allowed to happen? FIFA and the International Olympic Committee are a joke. I really wish some heads would roll for the unspeakable level of corruption within FIFA and the IOC. Too bad it was never really investigated and anyone within FIFA and the IOC who had anything to do with voting for these bastards in were not put away for life.

What's even more bind boggling is that China and Russia, the two of the most brutal regimes in the history of the world were allowed to get four of these events.

Agreed and it blatantly shows money talks!

Agreed and it blatantly shows money talks!
It also shows the hypocrisy of all the other nations as well. If they REALLY gave a damn about all the corruption and the human rights issues in Qatar they would have said "nope, we're not going there". But not one did that. They all just went along. Way to have a backbone everyone.

Tunisia beat France & Australia beat Denmark this morning. There's a couple upsets for ya.
France had nothing to play for and very much acted like it. Danmark could have played their way in with a win against the Socceroos but were terrible, though Schmeichel was obstructed on the Oz goal .... So they rightly go home.

The US was terrible in the box. Pulisic had a horrid cross behind the attackers and don't get me started on his corners. That said, the Oranje could win it all ...

Morrocco knocked off a hapless Spain yesterday in PKs. They get to play Portugal (with Ronaldo as a sub) next.

So pissed spain couldn't pull PKs... but also sad no games today. The winter cup has been a nice change of pace.

Recap from weekend Quarterfinals:

Croatia kicked Neymar out
Netherlands can't hit a PK
Morocco stops Portugal
England missed chances

Semifinals:
Croatia plays Argentina
France plays Morocco

Part of me was hoping for a geopolitical England v Argentina in the final (think Hand of God goal & Falklands). Instead, we get a bit of old school colonialism in the France v Morocco semifinal.

I saw a meme that said if you have never watched soccer and this was the first game you saw, never watch it again, as it won't ever be that good.

Great game, great athletes.

Mbappe will have more chances... Messi truly is the best ever.
