RTDNTOTO 🐻 Random Thoughts Deserving No Thread Of Their Own 21 (2026)

Cranford’s perennial pest broke out with Sweet Caroline and the crowd joined in 😆
I thought the robot was funny, but this is going to get annoying. I'd hate to be a Council member or staff that is dealing with the grandstanding. As he gets more viral, its only going to get worse.

I'm smelling smoke outside. No reports of any fire, and I doubt they'd be doing a controlled burn on a blustery day. I hope it's someone burning off their wood pile as Spring approaches, or cooking ribs. But the smell is VERY strong.

EDIT:
Controlled burn. Nothing to worry about.

Not sure what I would think about someone applying for a job who stresses his "attenttion to detail."

Normally, I wouldn't care about a minor mispelling, but there are exceptions.

Our Senior Planner left, and our Associate Planner (who I worked with in my previous jurisdiction) became Senior Planner a couple of weeks ago.

So, our Assistant Planner just became Associate Planner as of Monday.

I wonder if that means the lowly Planning Tech (Yours Truly) is about to get a happy trip to HR.

We will find out.

I have a weird niche, though. I am more than a Planning Technician, but not quite an Assistant Planner. I'm like a "PT+" or "AP-" based on my job duties. I am the first Planning Tech the city has ever had that actually had a planning background (and there have been a lot over 25 years), and my possibly be the only AICP-certified PT or Planning Admin in the country.

I'm glad I got my application in for that opening. It closed abruptly about a minute after I submitted my application to HR.

Two eggs in my ramen everytime.

What kind of scams?
Bait & switch scams, fake registrations, truck is rusty IRL photos were fake, inspector finds 4000 worth of work, the seller offers to do the work for an additional 1000 but not off the price 😉, F150s sold by Jéhovah's Witnesses as a means to preach JW not sell a truck.

Were looking in the 5-15k price range so lots of crap to sift thru

I’d really love to drink my daily cafe con leche right now but I have fasting labs at 9:15 🙁

A friend this to me & had to share:

Happy Friday the 13th. Or if you have paraskevidekatriaphobia, we’re sorry. Today will be over soon.
Paraskevidekatriaphobia is the fear of Friday the 13th. It’s a tough year for those afflicted, since there are three Friday the 13ths in 2026. That’s the most there can be in a single year.

I get paid like a PTech but have the responsibilities of a P3, yet not important or old enough to have senior in the job title.......yet ;) I enjoy the smaller pond and am quite content with my actual work though.

Good luck to you! If things work out, you can celebrate by going roller skating!

Is this a real place in Reno?

Yes; that classic ad is before my time, but I've seen it on some "growing up in Reno" pages. (Wife grew up in Reno and went there. We went there once a few years ago and reminded ourselves why we don't roller skate anymore as our sore legs and butts recovered.) It is still there and I ate breakfast at Jack's right next door just last week. From what I heard, it still looks like 1983 inside.

The rink I grew up in in California, coincidentally enough, is changing ownership this weekend after 50 years. That's a LONG run.

Speaking of roller skating, my favorite story is from the 90’s, when Dione and I were about 21 or so. The DJ working at the Sunrise Rollerland (RIP, died of cancer in his 30’s ☹) had been my elementary school, junior high, and high school classmate. He happened to see me there and we reconnected. We knew each other, but weren't really close.

A few minutes later, during the session, he stopped the music and made a major announcement, stating that a famous movie star and former teen idol was in the house, and there they are! As the spotlight goes on us. He said “We remember all his movies. They were all so great! And here he is, in our humble kingdom!! Let’s give him a warm welcome and play a song from his movie!” He then played “Shake it Up” and everyone tried to figure out who I was. People were actually taking pictures with us. I had fun playing along.

To this day, I wonder if people think they met a famous movie star and not some random person the DJ knew from school.

I found my medical bracelet that had been missing since last weekend.

I found it under the nightstand shelf, while cleaning up before our housekeeper comes today.

Lightning looks cool. That is all.

I look like a guy who got dressed in the dark and then fell asleep on a bus.....because that's exactly what I am. Throw in middle-age, stocky Danish genes and three-to-four weeks overdue on a haircut and you have a reallllllly accurate picture of me right now. It aint pretty.

So here's a fun one: starting on Monday, my
Sorry @Maister , this depiction is more accurate.

Once long ago, I went with my HS girlfriend to get her windshield replaced in her old beater Toyota. We went to this shop we'd found a listing for, tucked in under a viaduct in a little grubby corner just south of downtown SLC at 9 in the morning on a Friday. Went into the shop, door was open. Walking up to the counter, the place was covered in grease, old newspapers and stuff, and nobody was in there. There was a pile of stuff on an old couch behind the front counter, and a service bell. We rang the bell, and this guy who had looked like a pile of blankets and garbage sort of, just, rose up out of the couch rubbing his eyes and saying "Ken I help you?"

You might think two 17-year old suburban kids would've run....but we really needed that windshield and he was cheap.

I feel like that dude today. Absolutely.
