RTDNTOTO 🐻 Random Thoughts Deserving No Thread Of Their Own 20 (2025)

I spent my time on the Costa del Sol of Spain. Torremolinos has an awesome fake Hard Rock Cafe that's really a punk bar. The beaches are amazing and ooohh the Spanish ladies! Always good to have that one Puerto Rican friend along to translate.

Was super excited for the World Cup to be in the US and was looking forward to coming back for a bit to catch some games. Now we've decided to skip it all together and watch from the local biergartens instead.

Tickets prices a stupid high and you can only get them through a lottery (that I have found). I can buy 'hospitality' or 'VIP' from $5000 a seat for first round matches.

These are the reputable options that a couple friends & I have found.

I'm talking to a particular taproom/bar in town to show all the matches and become the place to watch.

Also, I learned that if you are dairy-free because of lactose intolerance, there is no lactose in Cabot Cheddar and Jarlsberg - but if it's because of the dairy protein, then yeah, nope

6 were by/about Indigenous people. Good books but hard topics to cover. The colonizers really f*cked over the Indigenous people in layer upon layer of evil-doings.
Not sure if you’ve read Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson about the great migration from Jim Crow South. Her follow up book Caste should be essential reading.

We attended a quarter final match in 1994 in Texas and paid ~$100/ticket.

I really hate the pricing strategy this time.

I got to see 3 matches in Orlando in 1994 - 2 first round & 1 second round.

The Irish fans & Dutch fans were the best by far. Drank with both groups and hardly understood the drinking chants and songs.

So I have been retired now for 2 years & I still brought a Meyer Lemon (from my brother's backyard) & Sugar Plum (from a CA orchard) to the women in my old office.
Does that make a nice guy ?
When should I stop bringing them those gifts ?

I feel that I need to confess that I have watched the movie "Pacific Rim" over twenty times. that's almost two full days of my existence watching giant robots fight giant monsters.

No notes. No regrets.

"Now we can sit in here waiting...or we can take these flare guns and do something really stupid."

That's it! I found my million dollar idea! I am going to open a series of clubs called the Sweatpants LoungeTM geared towards perimenopausal women where the dress code is lounge wear and sneakers (unless you want to dress up). Food offering include cheese, chocolate, melatonin gummies, and GF/DF foods.

Damn. You had me at melatonin gummies. I wish I were more concerned about how much I apparently have in common with perimenopausal women, but I'm not. Tell me more. Will there be movies like "Cheaper by the Dozen" and old episodes of "Glee" playing on TVs around the bar....because.....damn.

Once again... you know you live in the barrio when this shows up in your Nextdoor neighborhood feed.

I grew up in what was a rural area. I had a pet goats and several neighbors had goats. Within the last 15 to 20 years, I’ve encountered more loose, wandering goats than I ever did growing up. Side streets, odd corners of neighborhoods, places that definitely do not scream “pasture.” Urban goats have a I don't give a flip attitude.

And couches and chaise lounges and a karaoke room for women's power ballads with some gangsta rap thrown in.

Would you serve herbal teas and/or coffee and/ or wine ?

Would you provide thick fluffy robes to wear & slippers to match ?

Would you have rescue cats to snuggle & pet ?

Back in WNY after a shitty week back downstate. Good friend in Toronto passed away two days before Xmas and I don't get bereavement or vacation time yet, so I had to stream the funeral service like I was still in lockdown. Couldn't make the wake yesterday because of gale-force winds, snow squalls, and multi-county travel advisories. I felt really guilty, although no one is guilting me over it. 1990-2025, older than Jim Morrison and Kurt, but still way too young to go.

Fair warning to the parents of Cyburbia: Don't let your kid's grow up to live the punk rock lifestyle, unless they are fully prepared to face trauma, drama and losing good friends young.

I'll survive though, business will go on and holiday seasons will pass, and I will see Nick in the afterlife, whenever I get there.
