RTDNTOTO 🐻 Random Thoughts Deserving No Thread Of Their Own 20 (2025)

The world feels kind of uninteresting to me this morning. I need something to change my mind. What should I be reading about or learning about? I just...jeez. I'm not even intrigued by my fellow weirdos on the train these days. I feel.....oh no. Is this normal? What if this is just middle-age? Like this morning, 1980's era Loverboy came up in my music feed and I didn't even care. So yes, as hard as it is to believe "The Kid is Hot Tonight" was in my ears and I was looking around at a train full of people and nothing interesting happened in my brain.

I'm not sure I can go on. I mean, how does one get out of THAT kind of a funk?!?

I've got a particular leftover skill set in this area, but I'll have to fly to Phoenix to lay hands on you. Please accept the best alternative I have. :)

I thought you didn't want to work the counter.
I got yelled at outside by someone at 7:45 a.m., when we don't even open until 8. He was complaining about the courtroom not opening until 8 (for his 8 a.m. court time) and wanting to know if he'd get a warrant. I told him to talk to the marshall, but I doubt it.

If it's too cold to wait outside, go wait at Starbucks down the street or something.

With that said, I will miss having the court temporarily in our building after the court moves back to its home. It adds a lot of entertainment value to the job.

In our old place, we shared the building with county government and the court system. For whatever reason, the restrooms on the floor with the courts were not open to the public, so they would come down to our floor to use the restrooms. I think this could well be the genesis of my disdain for my fellow citizens.

This was posted in my jurisdictions local Facebook page. I’ll be honest if it wasn’t for the Hank Hill reference I wouldn’t have got that they were asking about propane..

That's how it was in Reno. The second floor restrooms were the only ones (out of the 17 floors plus basement) that were open to the public, so they got gross. I didn't use those ones--I usually went to 7, since it was a low-traffic floor.

Every October I am reminded of how lucky I am that my kids do not care for scary stuff and have never asked me to take them to a Haunted House.
We like HH's, but not the super gory ones. Jump scares and such are fine.

A house down the block does one that actually sends grown adults fleeing in terror. The guy spends weeks setting his whole house up beforehand, and hires people to play roles.

When people change their name back to their maiden name on FB they should be required to post a relationship status update as well. Still married? Divorced? It's complicated? I need to know!
Oh geez, sorry. Back in 2011, I changed my last name back to my family name after my divorce.

I bought the bargain change of just taking back my family last name, which I used as my middle name while I was married. For $26, I got back my original last name but couldn't get back my original middle name.

What does this mean? It means that my middle name and my last name are the same. Instead of kms, I am really kmm. If I ever remarry, I hope it is to a k, making me kmmk, or to an m for kmmm.

So there you have it.

Thanks for sharing! I am glad you were able to get back your original last name.

Jaguars dont recognize each other by name. They communicate via body language, vibes, scent markings and roars. Even if some scientists in the Pantanal in Brazil like to give individual Cats names (like "Bororo", "Pirate", "Scarface" etc), those Jaguars will never have to file a name change petition in any human court.

They moved me to supervising the baby planners at the counter. So if you're going to make me work again, why not get paid more for doing it. As long as I don't have to work weekends like the directors.

My last job had the courts upstairs and I was at the entrance. I got to see a lot of crying people on family court day. Also a lot of angry people when they didn't get their way.

Is the RFP to manage the State's trust fund, or to provide the fund...or...I'm pleading ignorance.....
I manage the state's trust fund. This is awarding funds for the production of affordable housing units. I inherited a mess, and it's been a bit of a show.

I had to pay $250 for a legal name change because I waived an in person appearance at my divorce proceeding so they wouldn't revert my name back to what I wanted. Further complicated that NJ DMV smashed my two surnames I used together into one surname due to then existing character limits. Tried to renew my license back in December and it was WAAAAAAY more complicated than it needed to be. 3 trips, a box of documents, and a seance were required to renew my license. I filed for the name change that same day. The judge who did the hearing had 6 women that were doing the same thing. One lady was renamed Anna by DMV, her name was Ann and has never been Anna and they wouldn't renew her license. The judge was not amused.

I think the finance person hates me.

The supervisor two layers over me swore up and down in a meeting that there should be more admin setaside funds for the two federal grants under my purview. Well today I was doing the tedious exercise of counting up my coins for RFPs launching this week and lo and behold, I found over $1M in uncommitted admin funds because somebody did not set something up correctly in IDIS.

I was pleased to send an email with receipts this afternoon about my discovery. The finance person shot back in an email that's not what our fiscal system says. Well friend, they are showing uncommitted in the federal system.....

Good thing is my RFP will be for $8M in HOME funds.

That's a nightmare.

The ex returned to her maiden name (for which I am eternally grateful). She unfriended me, but forgot to unfriend a buddy, and he reports that her profile is "in a relationship". I'm almost 100% sure it wasn't the dude that woke her from a drunken slumber on our old front porch by sucking on her toes. But what do I know?

TMI?

Facebook used to have a relationship status called "it's complicated" - not sure if it's still there but that would at least be helpful

I am in a women's group called Lagniappe - there's 8 of us and we take turn having it at our respective houses - instead of a book club, you do something - like one month, we made pop poms, my month last year, I had my daughter come explain oyster farming and show people how to shuck their own oysters, it's really fun - last night we played a card game called Scratch and it was so fun - I had to miss the last few months because I was covering Planning Board on the same night for an employee on maternity leave so it was great to be back

I am close friends with one of the women and that's how I got invited in - I didn't know the other women well so it's been nice getting to know new people

House drink was an Italian Margarita and it was very good

anyway, I am feeling that margarita today

My legal name is a common diminutive version of a more traditional name. My dad has the same legal name as I do. We have no idea why his parents decided to name him that back in the '30s and besides him and myself, I've never encountered another person with the same diminutive as their legal name.

Anyway.... when I enlisted in the Marines the clerks at the MEPS initially typed up all of my paperwork with my correct name and I signed off on everything. Then on the day I was actually leaving for bootcamp they gave me the stack of paperwork to take with me and somebody had taken the initiative to go in and "correct" everything to the more traditional name. What a mess. They had to go back to the MEPS to get all new paperwork and I had to call my parents to come back and bring the originals of my SSN card, birth certificate, and baptismal records again. I remember my recruiter talking to my dad on the phone and apologizing profusely and telling him to take his time and drive slow and maybe stop for dinner before showing back up at the MEPS office. My recruiter couldn't punish the folks at the MEPS but at least he could force them to stick around well past their normal quitting time while they waited for the documentation.

You can generally tell what's going on based on the post content and profile pictures. The women changes her profile picture from her couple picture to just her; posts pictures of herself (glow up type pictures, think 1990's glamour shots); and quotes like "you have to lose yourself to find yourself" and "loyalty is a two way street".

I never did that. 😁 I don't know the first thing about glamor shots, and generally kept anything about my marriage ending off my Facebook page. I confided in friends privately, but never posted updates or complaints.

While looking around at everyone, have this song in your head. The Kid is Hot Tonight is not the right jingle.

Yeah but you are classy like that. My Facebook friends aren't. When it comes to relationship drama, my wife's Facebook feed based on what she shows me is golden, as a lot of her friends are co-workers from the Psych Hospital. Psych nurse drama is a different level of drama.

Yes, there must always be some sort of quote that suggests equal parts relationship PTSD and Live Laugh Love style 'inspiration'.

I have a cousin that put out a song about 25 years ago called "Complicated . . ." Ended up being a big hit with a lot of airplay. I have zero signing skills, though, and save it for my car with windows up.

I have a nephew that is making the rounds in country music in the east, but not well known really out west yet.

This cutie picked me last night. Three months old, clean vet checkup.

We take her home Saturday. Unnamed, but I’m leaning toward ā€œSummerā€ since she was born June 21 and warms up my heart like summer warms the world.

We want to see how Rio takes to her, so we won't offically adopt her for a while. This is technically a foster bird, but she already decided I am her person.

It's not your name, but my maternal grandfather (and first gen Canadian-German) was given the legal name Fred....not Fredrick, just Fred and he was born in 1903.

I have ancestors from the border area of Germany and Luxembourg and that area has traded hands many times. The family name Francois morphed into Franzwa which then immigrated to Wisconsin. I’m sure some folks think Ellis Island changed the spelling of the name but it happened before they came over.

My sister changed her name when she was married but kept the middle name, maiden name, and new last name. She hated her first name and has always gone by her middle name. To do so required her to go to court for approval. Apparently, first names are more important.
