RTDNTOTO 🐻 Random Thoughts Deserving No Thread Of Their Own 20 (2025)

Just got given the "Senior discount" at Walgreen's. Apparently that's every first Tuesday.

I'm 49.

I didn't ask for it--just got it automatically--so I decided I did not sell my integrity for three bucks.

I had a therapist appointment this morning at 9.

She texted me at 2:21 a.m. this morning, asking me to use the side door and not the front door of the building due to construction.

I let her know this morning I was not happy that the text couldn't wait until 7 a.m., at least. Is that really something that had to go out at that hour????

I did not go back to sleep and am quite grumpy today--a rare mood.

I have a do not disturb on my phone after 10 PM

Sometimes when I think things can't get any more strange or crazy at work, it finds a way.

My phone goes quiet at 10:30 pm and wakes up at 5:00 am. There are exceptions for calls from close family members.

I keep everybody silent 10PM-7AM. Unknown numbers also never ring my phone. No notifications for any apps and I have been totally social media free (except linkedin, I guess) for over a year now.

I have a do not disturb on my phone after 10 PM

My phone does not come into the bedroom. It goes to "Do Not Disturb" at 9:00 PM except for family members and then gets plugged in on my desk in the den on the other end of the house when I go to bed. Even if a family member calls or texts me and it gets through the "Do Not Disturb" restrictions, I won't see it. I figure that I live far enough away from the majority of my family that if there was some sort of emergency that there isn't much I can do for any of them if they text or call me at like 1:00 AM and I usually wake up by 5:00 so I can always check for messages then.

I'm sure this will all change once our oldest starts driving and is out later in the evening or is in college. Then I'll probably have my phone glued to me in case my baby needs something!

I bought a cauliflower to roast with our pork chops for dinner last night. I was all prepared for our kids to immediately turn up their noses after taking the teeniest nibbles humanly possible. I set the food on the dining room table and then went to go put a few things away in the kitchen while my wife and oldest daughter started dishing things out. By the time I sat down, the three of them had ate all their cauliflower, dished themselves out seconds and left me about 2 small florets! It was a surprise hit.

I was falling asleep to a YouTube video about a Siberian Tiger attack in 1997. So I had a dream that I was foraging in Siberia with a guide Jaguar and we encountered a Tiger, but my Jaguar scared it off. Than I woke up /dream

I have a picture of you working as the new Siegfried & Roy team as the replacement for Siegfried ... Terminator & Roy with Tigers & Jags

We just got word that the caseworker for our middle son at the middle school quit this morning. We have had several issues in the past with her and I hear others have as well. His new caseworker is someone we worked with last year that was awesome. So I hope this will be a good thing for him.

For the most part, things are going ok for him this year other than two classes. One the teacher is trying but the study guides are complex and confusing. The other is a teacher issue. We had a meeting a few weeks ago and the teacher assured us that things would change. We will see what the results say.

Our female cockatiel has lost 30 grams in two weeks. My wife is going to the vet today. In the back of my mind, I think it may be for the last time, so I am a bit out of sorts.

I am confident it's a yeast infection, which can be treated with antifungals, IF we caught it soon enough. That's the if. I said goodbye to her this morning just in case. She is only 2 1/2 and was healthy a month ago at her checkup.

Our 16-year-old male is his normal self, which is good, because it means doesn't sense anything amiss with his sister.

I bet that the therapist forgot about that details, and in the moment of concern, sent off the text that way you had it before arriving. I agree that it would be annoying, but I could also see the thought process that occurred, too.

Even so, a text at 8:45 would have worked.

Plus, if I get there and try the front door and it’s locked, I’d try others.

The gates of the Rainbow Bridge opened for Lucy at 3:31 pm Pacific today, when Dione and I had to make the decision no pet owner ever wants to make.

Lucy had gotten suddenly ill after a clean checkup just weeks ago, and was energetic and her normal self over the weekend. Monday, she was lethargic, and yesterday we noticed she had lost 30 grams.

Vet said it was some particularly strong lung infection that came on so quickly and couldn’t be treated. She died in our hands at the vet’s office.

We will bury her in the front yard.

We did show the body to Rio, who appears indifferent, but we thought he should know.

RIP Lucy, 2022-2025. So young.

Attended the Upstate New York APA Chapter conference gala yesterday in Rochester, ran into some familiar faces. It was fun because I wasn't there to try and get a job or impress anyone, just purely representing my City. It was cool to meet some of my consultants IRL and hobnob with the regional intelligentsia. Lots of really exciting projects are happening all over Upstate NY through the State's "Downtown Revitalization Initiative" grant program ("DRI", not to be confused with the Thrash band*), and it was cool to compare notes with other cities undertaking them. Buffalo -> Roc is a very easy drive.

Although the highlight of my night was running into a Server who was a Rochester Punk that I recognized from shows at The Bug Jar**, they were cool!

I have been attending the state municipal conference here in my fair city - good swag includes a ridiculous amount of chocolate and even snacks, notebooks, automobile ice scrapers (never have enough) and mints
All I got at APA yesterday was a lousy bottle opener and a Bills bumper sticker! [but than again, I wasn't attending full conf.)

It breaks my heart to check in on Rio via camera and see him flock-calling for Lucy. :-(

We think maybe he's just grieving, since we did show him her body yesterday.

Tonight's Canucks Opening Night Festivities at Rogers South (i.e., our house) have been cancelled due to yesterday's events. We will have a makeup opening night for a match in a couple of weeks, and pretend it's opening day.

Door #3) None of the above
Let's open up door #2. Now, do you want to switch to door #1?

(This is a classic problem. Answer: Always switch, because doing so increases your chances of winning from 1 in 3 to 2 in 3, doubling the odds. I figured this out intuitively when I was a kid.)
