RTDNTOTO 🐻 Random Thoughts Deserving No Thread Of Their Own 20 (2025)

Hey all. I haven't been on in the last few months because my office suddenly classified Cyburbia as a security threat. I complained and nothing happened, so I finally logged in at home. I'll try to be more active on my own time I guess.

Mine did the same thing, but somehow it just started working.

This week is the 40th anniversary of the Lyonesse Philospher's Guild's recordbreaking sellout concert in the old Wembley Stadium, where a group of over 50,000 progressive rock fans gathered to hear the band perform hits from their second album (which actually comprised five LP discs), Beyond Bishop Rock.

Their hairstyles were ahead of their time.

Opening for The Guild was Philharmonia Londinium, with a performance of their UK top ten hit Hammersmith (24:21).

Cool, do you have any pictures of Interstitial Space? As I recall they opened for Lyonesse Philosopher's Guild at old Wembley Stadium and also at Chalmondley-on-Avon. In fact, some years later Archie Whitmore-Colfax from Interstitial Space later went on to join LPG following Allistaire Warwick's untimely departure.

Okay, did you watch that? wasn't that incredibly creative, practical, and useful? Why is it one almost never actually does the incredibly handy hacks one sees on videos like this?

You know what would make Planning Commission meetings more fun?

NHL-style horns, strobes, high fives, and sirens every time a project is approved.

Without spoilers, all I can say about this year’s #agt winner is . . .

WTF?

Yawn.

America’s got NO talent is more like it. The act standing next to the act that won should have been the winner.

It had the security certificate problem for a few weeks earlier this year. That's likely why.

My friend is a plumber. He has said he's always what to come out from under a house jumping up & down, yelling & high-five the house when he fixed an issue - you know like when a football player makes a tackle or scores a touchdown.

You did your job.

I just said - out loud "Oh MY! Banana nut!!" like a little old lady as I popped an entire mini-muffin into my mouth sitting at my desk at the exact moment the hot intern from the communications division walked past my office door - I am clinically uncool.

You did your job.

I've always wanted intro music like wrestling or baseball. Up next at the podium, DVD! Some lights, maybe a boxer's robe. Someone playing Another One Bites the Dust.

I see the prog rock target audience has not changed much šŸ˜†

Similar but different.... When I retire, I want to go to neighboring jurisdictions and sign up to speak at public hearings for residential developments and when it's my time to speak, introduce myself, hit play on an old 80's boom box, play the song "Little Boxes", thank them for my time, and sit down.

At retirement I want to show up and speak on nonsense like Agenda 16 is ruining the country because the president is behind it and trying to force everyone to get vaccinations which increase cell phone usage in kids. I want them to be confused.

Either that or I will pitch vending machines in city parks that sell adult novelties. Why can't I have my vending machine? The other guy is making money selling soda?

Passed my first performance review w/ flying colours! Got some great constructive feedback that was not excoriating at all! It was made clear to me that I am not expected to be an FAICP level whiz kid, and leadership feels I am a value add and appreciates my contributions and attitude :)

Major anxiety relieved!
Told ya so.

It is going to be 80+ all week. We into October. The only good reason to live in Ohio is fall. Where is my 72 and overcast day? Where is my 63 at night with a slight breeze?

One of the Engineering Division's new workers got on my bus this morning as I travelled the last leg of my commute. He will be getting on every day, just like me! Now we have that awkward "are we supposed to chit chat the rest of the way or are we cool to keep listening to podcasts or reading if we nod good morning" question hanging over us. Ugh. Every. Day.

I'm a huge baby. I already have two "bus / train" friends I got myself into without meaning to. I don't know if I can handle a third! When am I going to read?!???!!!

Dear Extroverts,
While we appreciate your well-intentioned efforts to 'be inclusive', 'be friendly', or even if you're acting from a misguided sense of social obligation to engage with your fellow human being on this Great Journey Through Life Together....please know that there is a 97.65% chance that an engineer is going to be an introvert. I won't unnerve you by telling you precisely what introverts are quietly thinking to themselves as they are accosted approached by big friendly extroverts wagging their tails, but suffice it to say the Reader's Digest version is....Go away. Leave me to ponder in silence. Alone. Please.

Sincerely,
The Introverts of the world

We had what we thought was a gas leak in our garage on Friday night. Got ourselves and the birds out, called 911. Turned out it was a bottle of anitfreeze that had somehow burst open in the cabinet, leaking everywhere and causing the smell. Regardless, the fire department checked all our gas valves and appliances anyway; no leak found.

Spent Saturday cleaning up the mess.

SO, that's two 911 calls in a month, after having none at all in 15 years. Hopefully, that's the last one.

Jim

That reminds me... What weighs less - a gallon of butane or a gallon of water?

The butane... it's a lighter fluid!

Just got this email from the local utility:

One Less Password to Remember: Keep Me Logged In

Hi Neighbor,

In this digital world, logging in each time you need to visit your online account can be time consuming.

Count on us to make your life just a little bit easier with the ā€œKeep Me Logged Inā€ feature on our website.

Designed to save you time and keep you connected...

Uhhhh, how about instead you give me one less email to deal with? As in "Hi Utility, In this digital world, looking at my inbox only reminds me how much I pay you, but you know you can count on me to make your Bags of Money fuller each month, because I want those lights kept on. You can also count on me to get irritated with you when send me useless superfluous emails, so please do your job and find a way to save me money and please stop burning coal."

Even though I've done it quite a bit, being called to testify in court still produces a night of poor sleep beforehand. Our attorney thinks the other side has a weak hand and thus didn't call me to testify, so I lost a lot of sleep over nothing.

At least I'll sleep well tonight.

Work and life are stressful at the moment. During my drive home I thought, "I am not doing well." Not sure if that insight is a good thing that I am aware or a bad thing that my brain is telling me I am not doing well. šŸ¤”

No matter how difficult the realization, a moment of clarity should always be taken as a good thing. You deserve to be well. You deserve to admit to yourself - without guilt and without blanching - what isn't feeling right. I think so, anyway.

I hope you feel better really soon. Sending hugs. Lots of them.

Hey I am back from the IDA conference in DC - those Downtown Managers are currraaaaaazzzzy lol

Independent District Attorneys? Immersive Diligent Administrators? Am I getting close? You operate on a whole 'nuther level than me...what conference? How did it go? Did the other kids like your outfit? Did you make any friends? I must know!

International Downtown Association but I like yours better

I did make friends and my outfits look a little plain compared to the others - but that's okay, I am in the invisible decade of life where you float along unnoticed - it's not a bad thing -

I have been in that decade since 1998. :)

Never done that one, but national and regional mainstreet, ED, and Chamber conferences are way too much work. Everyone is extremely extroverted and some are over the top. Lots of bright and power outfits.

I'm a huge baby. I already have two "bus / train" friends I got myself into without meaning to. I don't know if I can handle a third! When am I going to read?!???!!!
Maybe you can come up with a basic semaphore system or beach weather system. Green flag - all good. Red flag - do not approach. Yellow flag - enter conversations at your own risk. Purple flag - jellyfish.

Of course if there are four you have enough for a quick card game.

It's the Irate Dad Association. I'm not sure why LP was going to that though.
How about Idiot Developers Association ? but why would a planner attend when they could get a daily dose at their home front counter ?

Just found out I will be in Detroit for NPC next year.

I am skipping Houston since I’ve been there enough times.

Also, guess who will be a panelist at the Nevada state conference in a few weeks? I’ll be at the Planning Commissioners Roundtable.

I have to be a panelist at a small local conference next month. In the request for my bio and a headshot, they said I had to pay if I wanted to attend the rest of the day but they’d give me a $35 coupon šŸ˜†

It ain’t that serious.

Welcome to Detroit in the spring... the absolute worst time to be here!

Honestly, late April might not be too bad, weather-wise. At least we'll be past the neverending dreariness and grey skies of December through early April.

And I apologize in advance if you happen to turn on a Tigers, Red Wings, or Pistons game while you're in town and are forced to hear this 84x a game:
