If my last name was Slutsky or Kuntz, I would change it.
There was an old SNL skit with, I think, Jon Lovitz where this married couple was debating about what to name their baby boy. The husband kept shooting down every suggestion the wife makes as being too prone to be made fun of. At one point the wife asks "why are you so afraid of our son's name being made fun of?" Just then the doorbell rings. A delivery driver is at the door and says "I got a package here for an Asswipe and Emily Johnson." As Lovitz signs for the package he says to the driver, "Incidentally, the name is pronounced 'Os-weep-ay"

That show ran over 32 years ago. How the hell did you FIND that?
I remember seeing that period's reruns alot on Comedy Central in the mid-90s.

Plus...that sketch was tailor made for Nicholas Cage's trademark scenery chewing tendencies.

I earned a Planning Merit Badge while we were wandering in the cyburbia-less wilderness: I had cited an STR for violations of our ordinance and the owner appealed. During the hearing, his attorney attempted to put me on the stand and question me as a hostile witness. I was momentarily non-plussed until our attorney jumped in and put a stop to it. (I've been on the stand plenty in my career. I'm pretty sure I could have acquitted myself just fine.) Some 37+ years - that's the only time that has ever happened.

Yesterday I made the statement "Victory is Mine! I drink from the keg of glory!" and no one knew the reference. It would have made me feel old, but many of the people who I work with are my age or older...

Never heard it before.

I started watching West Wing in reruns from the beginning during the pandemic but it kind of trailed off after a while.

West Wing is one of my all time favorte shows. Although it makes me especially sad with the realization of how DC has been for the past 8+ years.

We were watching the Kentucky Derby pre-show and moments before they started the race Mrs. Maister says 'who are you betting on?" Currently, the screen showed a list of the horses. Completely at random I chose #18 (Sovereignty) and I said "I bet $15,000 on Sovereignty to win." Now I kinda wish I was at the track or at least on Fanduel when I said that. :(

At first I thought you said Bert or Ernie... and then this flooded my thoughts:

You're thinking of the German language Sesam Straße featuring those two nazi soldier muppets, Ernst and Bernie that were big in the 1930s and early 40s.

Last night's meeting went better than expected. The Mayor did not let it go sideways.

For this we are grateful.

Went to Sacramento over the weekend for a wedding. So in the last two weeks, I've gained my first grandniece and a new cousin!

I eat at least two boiled eggs per day - they're an important staple and are tough snacks that can survive in a coat pocket for hours without a problem.

I'd put hot hard boiled eggs in my pocket as hand warmers. Then I'd have them for lunch.

I love soy marinated eggs. I can't make them well, but I'll keep trying.

I am going to be the guest on a local radio show next week. I'll be on with Jason Biggs on KGBF 93.7 from 9 to 10 a.m., talking about Reno history, along with "bitches, gripes, and complaints," based on my "Standing On My Head" columns. For obvious reasons, I won't be talking about any current development issues or politics.

The station booked me for the whole hour!

You should be able to stream it, but I'll try to post the link after the show as well.
