I thought the custom was to leave everything up through New Year's. At our house, Christmas stuff goes up at noon on either the last Saturday in November OR the first Saturday in December (whichever is more convenient), and comes down at noon on "the first Sunday after the first Saturday in January," which, this year, is January 5.

I was just at the secondhand store and one of the vendors was removing Christmas merchandise.

The satellite Christmas music stations have gone back to normal programming. I wish they'd keep their holiday themes for as long after Christmas as they played holiday music before Christmas.

It's about 60Āŗ here. I'm going for a walk.šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø
 
City Hall is cleaned up. We had air scrubbers and duct cleaning. The cleaning bill for the project ran about 10K. Concrete dust was literally everywhere.
 
I'm at work today, but not doing much. My new Macbook Pro and iPad Air came today, but it's still in the box. Gotta love end of year budget to spend or lose.

A couple coworkers got into a fascinating conversation this morning about what causes crime. One is absolutely positive that poverty is a significant cause the other says it is the progressive dissolving of the traditional family structure.

There is no one simple answer to that question. You can be poor and not so much as jaywalk (like my great-grandmother), or you can have billions and commit all sorts of crime (for which you go to one of those executive prisons with golf courses, massages, etc.) . . . so it's not that easy.

Memawā€™s pies are now eaten & gone.

We brought home leftovers of apple pie, pecan pie, lemon pie & chocolate pie. Glad my brother was here to help.

Did not eat much cheese this holiday. That is a surprise. Unless you count cheese on pizza. I think we had pizza from 6 different places over the course of a few days.

Personally, I think that there are a lot of cultural issues that contribute to crime and COVID made it a lot worse. While violent crime rates are improving nationally, the age of those committing crimes is getting younger. I think that when the schools closed, the gangs stepped up to fill that ā€œmentorā€ role. The gangs realized that these kids wonā€™t let life in prison, so they are capitalizing on their vulnerability.

The Pizza Hut tracking app, does not actually track the process of the pizza. App said that mg pizza was delivered, I call the store, and the manager informs me that the different stages are on a timer and not reflective of actual completed thresholds.

Day after Christmas travel delays
Flight from SJC to DFW delayed by 3 hrs due to weather at DFW (DFW ground stop from 8 am to 1 pm)
Missed connecting flight so rebooked to next day
Stayed overnight at Dallas hotel (no sleeping in the airport for me)
Afternoon flight home
No losted checked bag

Paying bills & I noticed that the AT&T & American Express bills both go to Carol Stream, Illinois 60197. Different POBox numbers though. Guess thereā€™s a big payment processing place there.

Yes I still pay a few bills by mail. Iā€™m a dinosaur. Get off my lawn.
