Sorry no my car does not have a CD or cassette player; just a plain old am/fm radio. Yes I went with cheapest stripped down version.

Which one of you?

We felt the 7.0 today here at Reno City Hall. We got to go hang out on the plaza for an hour. It knocked a bunch of stuff about on the upper floors, but all I got here on 2 was a gentle rumble.

We've been cleared to return to work.

Also, no damage in the historic area of Virginia City, so the Planning Commission meeting is on for tonight.

Do they get paid a bonus every time they say "Cascadia Subduction Zone?" Cool to say, but inaccurate.

Today's quake happened on the San Andreas Fault, which is actually a strike-slip fault.

I am wondering if the big one will ever hit while I live here. I now live near the New Madrid Seismic Zone, but have never thought about earthquakes before. There was a 2.7 about 150 miles north of me a little while ago. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/nm60594401/map

In what contexts do you use the "AICP Candidate" (Or, just "AICP" when that time comes) after your name? My thinking is that you would definitely use it in things like resumes, e-mail signatures, and work-related documents, but not in things like car registration, bank accounts, or magazines.

My father used his Ph. D. only when he needed to--he was generally "Ken" unless he was annoyed at something, in which case he became "Dr. Umbach."

(And yes, I know an AICP is nothing at all like a Ph. D. Not even close.)

Jim

I barely use it in my email signatures and of course the resume. I guess if I wanted to slightly impress someone I could use it more

I am trying to convince Chat GPT that Defecation is a moral failure.

No one cares that I have a BA, MBA and 25 years in local government. Do I care? Should I?

Consciousness is a series of collapsing quantum events in the neurons of your brain.

Defecation and Quantum Non-Locality: A Connection?

At first glance, defecation and quantum non-locality may seem completely unrelated, as one is a biological process and the other a concept from physics. However, both phenomena reflect the complexity of systems we interact with.

  • Scale and Perspective: Defecation, a very local and personal experience, involves biological processes governed by physics and chemistry. Quantum non-locality, on the other hand, involves the strange, counterintuitive behavior of particles at the smallest scales. While they are vastly different in scale and subject matter, they both highlight how complex systems—whether biological or quantum—can behave in ways that challenge our everyday understanding of the world.
  • Natural vs. Fundamental Laws: Defecation follows the natural laws of biology, while quantum non-locality reflects the strange and often non-intuitive principles governing the quantum world. Both are governed by fundamental forces and processes, but in vastly different ways—one biological, one physical.
In summary, while defecation and quantum non-locality don’t directly intersect, both reflect the complexity of the world, whether biological or quantum, and challenge our understanding of how things work. Would you like to dive deeper into either of these subjects?

Since defecation and quantum locality are inextricably convergent, one must always...

Nothing is better than waiting for a video-health appointment since the clinic is closed until Monday. Wife got a phone call from her Dr to inform her that she has pneumonia and yesterday I started having the same symptoms that she had.

Ugh. Get better. Had pneumonia a few times. First time the doctor brushed it off. Was not getting better a few day later and decided a second opinion was needed. Went to see FNP Kirby and said an x-ray was needed. Yup, pneumonia. She is now my first choice as a provider when needed.

Woke up to a wail of sirens going off in small-town Iowa. Figured the whole town was ablaze.

Nope, just Santa making the rounds.

Physical Geography SING ALONG
to Queen"s Bohemian Rhapsody! Lyrics by Rob Storrar https://x.com/rob_storrar (x.com)

This is the real life.
Physical Geography.
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from topography.

Open your eyes.
Look up at the sky and see.
Maritime airmass,
Moderate humidity.
Pressure gradient causes flow;
Pressure's high, then it's low.
Katabatic wind blows.
Really really matters to me.
To me...

A'a, just killed a man.
Lava bomb against his head.
Pahoehoe now he's dead.
A'a, eruptions just begun.
And now you're pyroclastic all the way.
A'a, ooh ooh.

Didn't mean to bake your eyes.
If the sky's not black again this time tomorrow,
Tephra's gone, tephra's gone.
Really really matters.

Too late, the ice has come.
Made drumlins in a line,
Eskers winding all the time.
Goodbye everybody, I've got to go.
Got to raise the sea and leave behind the proof.

A'a, ooh ooh (Anyway the wind blows).
I like the striae.
I sometimes wish moraines were all there was.

I see a little ventifacto of a rock.
OSL OSL will you dig the crescent dune-oh?
Megadunes and yardangs, lovely lovely barchans, eeh!
(Kalahari) Kalahari.
(Kalahari) Kalahari.
Kalahari Sahara.
Atacama-a-a-a-a-a

I'm just a porphyry, nobody loves me.
He is just a porphyry, from an old orogeny.
Spare him his quartz from this lithology.

Rivers come, rivers go. Will you let me flow?
N.F.M. No! We will not let you flow. (let me flow!)
N.F.M. we will not let you flow. (let me flow!)
Will not let you flow. (let me flow!)
Woody debris no! Oh leaky dam oh oh oh, no no no no no no no.

Meander-me-a meander-me-a (meander-me-a let me flow).
Alluvium has been dredged from t' riverside for me, for me, for me.

So you think you've got sandy silt facies up high?
And a stratified diamict down by your thigh?
Oh baby. Get some clast fabrics baby.
Just gettin my trowel, just gettin my trowel into here.

(OOOh, ooh yeah, ooh yeah)

Phy. Geog really matters.
Anyone can see.
Phys. Geog really matters.
Phy. Geog really matters to me.

(Any way the wind blows)

Seasonal question -

Your fair community Christmas Tree - is it a live cut down or artificial ?

I've always known antisemitism existed, just never noticed it. Now everywhere I look or go it is in my face.

The narrative I am exposed to as a 12th generation Canadian, white, male, with a Jewish connection at this point in history in the city I live in weighs on me all of the time.

How much of it is antisemitism, versus anger at the actions of the current Israeli government? Honest question, and I realize the two are totally independent.

I can't stand the super bright lights at city hall. I have two sets of lights in my office and almost every day I will turn one set off so it's darker in my office.

I had the same problem. I had the building manager switch my lights out to dimmables. What a difference!

My lost AirTag hasn’t moved since Thanksgiving. Makes me wonder what would have caused it to move a few blocks the day it was lost, and then not move since? My original guess was that it got swept up at the train station and put into trash, and then into a dumpster. But if that’s the case then the tag would have moved by now.

Still sitting in the same spot, so that theory is out.

Must've just got tossed on the ground somehow and it's just sitting there.

Live. Although every year (especially with cats in the house) I find myself questioning the wisdom.
Our official city tree live and stays there all year; it's just decorated from late November until early January.

As for the tree in our house, since I am allergic to pine, we have a fake tree. (I can handle being in a forest outdoors or camping--just can't handle the pine buildup indoors for a month.)

Our birds live in the living room corner for 11 months of the year. But this time of year, we move their houses into our bedroom and put the tree in their corner. They* always get annoyed for a day or two but then get used to it.

Jim

*Referring to past experience when we had Rio and Jensen. Now that Jensen is no longer with us and this is our first Christmas with Lucy, I can keep using the collective, but she seems to have the same reaction that Jensen did.

Any opinions on the CEO assassination?

Most social media has blown up.
Well, I don't condone murder under any circumstances, but that particular company is known for its very high denial rate.

I hope, if nothing else, this sparks a conversation about insurance and the claims process.

See link. I think he is in custody now. He was carrying a "ghost gun". Conversation about these things is due also.

I think it's pretty terrible to see so many people celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job is the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximize profits on your health.

I'm fairly neutral on the whole affair. Murder is bad. The tactics united healthcare did is also bad and resulted in many deaths. The healthcare system needs more improvements, and two wrongs do not make a right.

I’m finding I have become very impatient with people that complain about a house being built next to them - that lot has been vacant for years & we don’t want to see that change.

Well then BUY IT!

On occasion we need to ask ourselves at what point does personal (customer) experience become more important than convenience.

Not understanding your statement Mskis. It’s really not ā€œon occasionā€ - it’s on every occasion. Convenient or not, it’s part of my job.

You must really go rescue your little lost air tag. It’s out there all alone in the gritty city with no one to look after it, all scared & lonely & afraid.
