Got to meet someone locally famous today. Went to the Bills Backers bar to watch the Buffalo game and there was a birthday party. One of the people there was Steve Buechele, former third baseman and current on-air analyst for the Texas Rangers. But there's a Bills tie-in as well: Steve's son Shane is a backup quarterback (currently on IR) for the Bills. Boo seemed like a pretty cool guy and he has a nice family. (I believe the birthday girl was his daughter.)

At 12:20 PM this afternoon, the deed transferring ownership of the house in NC to the new owners was recorded.

Now I experience the stress of waiting to see the numbers in the Bank Account change to reflect the profits realized from that sale, so I can then send it the account info for the down payment and the Alta survey to the new mortgage company so we can close on the new house in 2 weeks.

At least the appraisal of the new house came back spot on for what we offered them.

Well I managed to score both grandpa and environment points. I got a subscription to Ranger Rick for my granddaughter. Just my luck, she'll be more like her mom and not care. Bless my daughter, she was all girly - girly.

How reliant on should we be on new tech and if we keep doing that, do we make ourselves vulnerable? (I am looking at you, AI.)

And so the stress continues. Apparently not all financial institutions have the same security protocol when it comes to wiring funds. Much to my frustration, the credit union that I belong to here has a protocol that does not play nicely with what the closing company requires.

We were without internet for a couple of days after Helene and my Amazon Alexa devices wouldn't work without a connection to the cloud. Not a big deal comparing that we had power when others didn't have electricity but we got dependent on being able to turn on one lamp with our echo device so that we didn't have to walk across a dark room to turn it on.

Is your fair city a Bee City USA Affiliate ?
My current community is.

The community I was at was looking to join as part of a larger sustainability program promoted by the parks director and myself. However one of the Trio (who is a bee keeper) became obsessed with it and demanded that we forego the sustainability program and just join Bee City USA.

In my almost 20 years of working directly for local governments, I've never been part of the adoption of a brand new master plan. At my previous employer, a master plan was adopted 3 years prior to me starting. I did oversee an update to that master plan. At my current employer, a master plan was adopted 1 year prior to me starting. And again, I did oversee an update to that master plan. We're going to be starting the process of adopting a new master plan over the next 1-2 years and I realized it will actually be my first, and not just an update.

Son was borrowing his grandfather's Jeep and a truck travelling the opposite direction pinched a rock in such a way that is shot out and shattered the driver's side window. Thankfully, son was not hurt. I have a distinct memory of watching this happen my kindergarten year (1976-77) when the same happened when waiting to get on the bus. Why that sticks in my memory, I don't know.

AIB^^^

Is it bad if a Comp Plan has not been updated in 10 years ?
Is it bad that there is now no staff to do the work in house like before (that was me) & now no political appetite/will to do it ?

Yes, that is bad.

Some states have required timelines on review and re-certification or re-adoption.

So some changes were rolled out at the sprocket factory where I work that required some new codes be loaded into one of the tools we use. The updates rolled out at the end of last week. This week has been a constant game of Whack-A-Mole. I can't see the new code! Wait... now it's fixed. When I put the new code it, the corresponding resource isn't in the pulldown. Okay, now that's fixed, but the option I need (not a new option) is missing! Waiting for that to get fixed...

I'm putting Beta Tester on my resume.

Arizona actually requires you take it to a public vote for approval every 10 years. I learned not to have a GP vote when you also have a max out your bond capacity vote for a gondola to the top of a mountain that isn't even in your city limits.

Are your state laws as bad as mine? I'm putting together a checklist for a process approval and comparing it to state laws.
You will have report A & B which are not defined, but will have items 1, 2, 1, 3, 1, 4 (I swear things are just repeated in different words). Plus you will have report C which I'm pretty sure is just report A & B combined, but it is only referenced that you will have it. Not what it is. Then of course there is the meeting timing of 30 days after you did this thing you will hold a meeting but not before 60 days and then you need to wait 30 days before you do the next thing but make sure to post report B but not do anything about it for 80 days but do it sooner than 10 days.

Sports cheerleaders serve no redeeming purpose. Then again, the sports serve no redeeming purpose, either.

I was out on a run early this past saturday morning and saw somebody with a Christmas tree up and lit through their front windows.

A Christmas tree. On October 19. :omg:

We have 5 multi-deck public parking garages in our downtown. The parking decks are free for the first two hours and $2/hour (IIRC) after that. There are also two or three private parking garages and walking past a couple of them this afternoon I noticed one charges $2.50 for every 30 minutes and the other was $3/hour. Seems like quite the price discrepancy.

Also, all of our parking garages are within about a half mile radius. Sometimes it's a fun run to start at one garage and sprint up and down each ramp and then circle through town and do that at each garage.

Until a few days ago, I never listened to any more of this than the version that's used in The Exorcist.

I always liked the single version from The Exorcist but wow is there ever so much more to it! It's sort of a crazy (in a good way) composition!

Just got back from Las Vegas for the state conference.

The people in front of me were complaining about the debit card hold. Why in the world are people still not clear on that? Debit cards have been around for decades. You are not "getting charged" $300. It's still in your account--it's just being held for incidentals until checkout. Assuming you don't charge anything--and you say you won't--you'll get it back a day or two after you leave. It's no different my handing you $300 cash for you to give back to me in a few days. It's still my money, I just don't possess it.

This has been hotel SOP for 20 years. I've worked in hospitality before (over a decade ago). I didn't think this would still be an issue.

The hold doesn't bother me in the least.

Jim

Arborist calls 911 on grave diggers who were trying to break a voodoo curse

Police say a group of people, from New Jersey, came to Evansville to dig in Oak Hill Cemetery.
They believe one of the men is a victim of a financial scam, and he was led to believe a voodoo death curse had been placed on him.
He, along with some of his employees, are accused of digging in Oak Hill Cemetery in an attempt to find the voodoo related items and break the curse.

P.S. those shirt/tie combos are kind of embarrassing.
Two of those guys are brothers and my first cousins.

Want to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are making a meta commentary on fashion trends and group think and fitting in, but I know that they just existed in a very specific cultural group at the time and they are all, unironically, wearing variations on the accepted 'uniform'.

I do not like fonts that show a capital "I" and lower case "l" as essentially the same, as you see here. Must frustrate those learning English, among other English peculiarities such how you pronounce the bird dove, and cove, or move. Gallagher did a comedy bit with bomb, comb, tomb.

Who comes up with the names for all the various fonts? Asking for a friend.

Sports cheerleaders serve no redeeming purpose.
One of my first cousins' kids is on scholarship at Ole Miss as a cheerleader. Being a sports cheerleader is literally paying for her college education. Check yourself before you wreck yourself, yo...
