I was going to mail mine in this morning, but then I realized I'll be at the courthouse tonight for the PC meeting, so I'll just drop it in the slot up there.I have done my civic duty today - early voted.
You appear to be identifying trees from a distance. Is that a lark?

So does it feel like you're on 'vacation' due to the novelty? Wonder how long before that feeling vanishes
I have the impression that it will be some time before consumers are in the mood to buy anything with the Boar's Head brand name on it.Has anybody tasted this ?

That is a rare and special thing indeed.I really do appreciate when sign contractors attempt to decipher a sign ordinance prior to answer questions.
I'll take "Things all communities have in common" for $800, Alex. Also, our sign ordinance is 20 years old and is in desperate need of a rewrite.
It's fine. You don't want to open that can-o-worms.Also, our sign ordinance is 20 years old and is in desperate need of a rewrite.
...why you gotta push it to 24', huh?
Not really, even while on vacation the city problems were still my problems to solve. Now when I see critics on social media I instantly think "not my problem"So does it feel like you're on 'vacation' due to the novelty? Wonder how long before that feeling vanishes
Ain't nobody got time for that!why do outdoor seating permits have to be so crazy - take your 19' and be happy - why you gotta push it to 24', huh?

Due to a lighting issue in the main courtroom, we had our Planning Commission meeting in the old jail in the basement instead. It's creepy down there, but we got the job done.
(Now used as a museum and for storage, but the cells are still in there. Clank!)
Jim
Or......your request has been tabled. You must stay in cell #5 until next month's meeting. That remark is out of order - go to cell #3 for the duration of the public hearing.
You win the Coolest Alternative Meeting Space award for the month.Found a picture of it online. It was used as an actual jail all the way until 1986!! This is pretty much how it looked for us last night.
The main courtroom--seldom used for trials in our county of 4,000--is directly above this room. The rest of the courthouse holds the DMV, the county clerk, planning, and assessor's offices.
Those are museum exhibits LOL. I work in Reno City Hall, down the hill, a boring-looking building that can be in any city USA. Since I live in a different jurisdiction, there is no conflict between full-time planning job and my chairing the PC.Lokos like they've turned a couple cells into workspaces. Which cell is your office?

Wednesday - fascinating choice
It's like opening the milk carton on the other side
Out local Safeway still has the Boar's Head umbrella and other assorted BH branding up all over. I won't be eating BH myself any time soon. Thanks to my current reluctance to buy any Boar's Head products I tried a different brand of sliced ham at the delic a couple weeks ago and found it to be the best sliced ham I've ever had (Cedar Hollow brand "cherry wood smoked ham" for those interested in case its available in your area).
Our local grocery store has a pretty great deli counter and I used to buy a lot of Boar's Head products there but I will not be doing so for the foreseeable future, even though a) none of the products we generally got came from the affected factory and b) the factory has been shutdown permanently. I'm just not gonna risk it. That said, when I was there this past weekend it was pretty busy and it seemed like a 50/50 mix of people buying Boar's Head stuff and a couple of the people buying non-Boar's Head stuff made a point of noting why they weren't buying it. One old guy was trying to decide on a different ham to buy and I convinced him to try the Cedar Hollow brand ham and he loved it. I told the lady working the counter that I'll wait for my commission. No money came my way but she did throw a few extra slices on my pile of ham after she weighed it so I guess I'll accept that.
No one expects anything to happen at the end of the year.serious question for you folks that are taking lots of time off for the end of the year - do you shelve your projects, or delegate to others, how do you make this work?
No one expects anything to happen at the end of the year.
Yeah, and I don't wanna be there when that happens.
My experience is that between Thanksgiving (the US holiday, not the October Thanksgiving you Canucks celebrateNo one expects anything to happen at the end of the year.
Well look at the calendar - with both holidays being on Wednesdays how much work is going to be done?serious question for you folks that are taking lots of time off for the end of the year - do you shelve your projects, or delegate to others, how do you make this work?
We have a nice restaurant downtown that used to be the City Police Station/Jail...Found a picture of it online. It was used as an actual jail all the way until 1986!! This is pretty much how it looked for us last night.

Looks really nice--you can still see the bones of the jail/station.We have a nice restaurant downtown that used to be the City Police Station/Jail...

I work primarily with large developers and RFPs from site selectors. They basically shut down completely for all of December. I also support our team that goes on foreign trade missions and to trade shows and stuff and that stuff basically stops around now too. The other big chunk of my work is assisting on grant applications and that's another area of work that stops this time of year.
