(ursus, head in hands) "Hey google, can you pull up some available flights from SLC International?" "No, single flight only, no bags...I'll just be carrying a whiffle bat..."

My daughter's manager. He was well-liked and they had a good relationship. He used her credentials to fake some of those returns. He admitted to taking $70,000.

Today was supposed to be his last day before he started a new job. I doubt he'll get the new job or unemployment.

To make matters worse, the person who picked up his truck left fast and crashed into a car in the lot. They kept going.

My daughter is heartbroken and betrayed. I wish she'd get angry at him for putting her job and credibility at risk.
Hopefully, your daughter was absolved of any responsibility . . . but yes, being betrayed like that is hard.

Fortunately she was never a suspect. He overrode the system and used a few people's credentials. Walmart has cameras everywhere so they also have videos of him.

I worked at an IHOP diner in high school for a very brief period. We had a new manager from Bangladesh and I remember asking where he came from since he seemed really confused. One of the waitresses said he was a emergency hire because the old manager had been arrested a couple weeks prior. The old manager got caught with skimmed credit cards from IHOP at the Best Buy in the same shopping center. When he fled to his car (parked at IHOP), he was followed -- cops arrived, searched his car, and discovered his meth stash. Unfortunate. But Benny the Bangladeshi got his shot at the American dream, and as far as I know still manages the IHOP successfully.

Last evening was just perfect. While on the couch on the back patio, the temp was just right that it could not get better. Fell asleep for a bit. I remember several years ago having the same thought one particular day while at EMI in Emmitsburg, MD. Just the perfect (non-storm) of elements. Hard to explain and put into words but had the thought that if all days could be like this.

Which states have most cardinal/compass direction named colleges ?

Illinois has 4 - Northern, Eastern, Southern & Western
Micihigan has 3 or 4 - Northern, Eastern, Western, & does Central count?
Kentucky has 3 - Northern, Eastern, & Western

Who else?
There is also a Northeastern Illinois (on the north side of Chicago).

We had a pop-up squall blow through with surprisingly high wind gusts (I'd guess over 50 mph). Oncor, the company that owns the power lines, thinks my power is out right now. We get texts from them during outages, and I got these three this evening:

Our lights started flickering a bit during/after the storm, then they blinked all the off and back on and the flickering stopped and power has been normal. I feel fortunate to have power this evening.

I may have mentioned it a while ago, but the office where I work is consolidating from 2 buildings to 1 and they'll let the lease expire on the other building. They moved my stuff yesterday. I worked from home and avoided the whole mess. I came in this morning, walked over to my new office, dropped in my laptop and boom, everything works. Nice.

The old building had 3-foot high cube walls; the new digs have 6-foot high, which helps attenuate the sound. On the other hand, the old building was pretty much empty, so unless The Loud Guy was there it wasn't too bad. I think I'll have to get used to the constant of buzz of low level conversation. If all else fails, I still have my earbuds.

I am looking forward to more face-to-face collaboration.

My only complaint with SXM is the repetition. When I first heard of satellite radio, it was billed as commercial free (not entirely true) and playing songs that never get played on "terrestrial" radio (not entirely true). When working, I have the freedom to listen to music or whatever all throughout the day unless in a meeting. If I listen to the same SXM station, I know I will hear the same songs from day to day. If XYZ artist has 150 songs in their catalog, FM will play the same four songs, ignoring the 146 others or whatever was not a popular "single" while satellite will also play those same four songs and add a few more that are not singles, and ignore the remaining. Spotify gives you the freedom to listen to all songs provided they are licensed to do so. However, I've come across a few artists in my Spotify library that for some reason have an album that is not available or their library has been completely removed.

I totally get that. Luckily, I've expanded my horizons of what channels I typically listen to enough that it isn't so much of a concern anymore but when I just cycled through Classic Vinyl, Lithium, and Backspin that was a real complaint. I love the Classic Vinyl channel but I think they might be the worst in terms of repetition of the songs they play (how many times can I possibly listen to Black Dog or Sympathy for the Devil in a given day?). Lithium plays a lot of the same stuff over and over as well but I'm definitely in the key demographic who wants to hear that indie tuff from the late '80s and early '90s - it makes me think I'm listening to 89x out of Windsor, Ontario on my way home from school back in '95!

Our division kickball team actually WON OUR GAME last night!!! A decisive 7-0 victory.

We are now 1-4. Odd that we beat a team that had been 4-0.

Champagne corks flew.

Yesterday, the wife and I went here, the newest city pool in Reno, replacing the old Moana pool that closed in 2008 after earthquake damage. It officially opens next week, but they are currently in the unofficial quiet opening period. (Shhh!)

Nicest public pool facility I've been in, and they don't pay me to say that. It even has a lazy river, and the outdoor pool is 101 degrees--perfect for the upcoming winter. Oh, and I felt like Cosmo Kramer when I was in the shower there.

The gym there puts our grungy City Hall Basement gym to shame. Guess where my new workout place will be?

Jim

The Burners have cleaned out our supermarkets. Luckily, we stocked up last weekend. Happens every year.

Good luck finding batteries, water, or TP anywhere!

Does anyone else think it's odd that APA hasn't announced the site of NPC past 2026? Usually they go at least three years out.

I will probably skip Denver and hit Detroit (I have relatives across the river in Windsor, which makes accommodations easy. :) And I've never been to Detroit, or Michigan, despite lots of family in the area.)

It's APA so it's hard knowing. I plan on going to Denver.

You had me a lazy river!

Any Cyburbians who make it to Detroit in 2026 should feel free to hit me up for a beer!

I have Lithium on a preset in my car but my mainstay is 80s on 8, Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind, First Wave, Ozzy's Boneyard, and Hair Nation.

WFH today and sitting in my front room. Garbage/recycling is today with recycling having been picked up. But this is the third time the truck has driven by. Once to empty my can, a second to empty the other side of the street, and now a third just driving through. What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is the company thinking? Why not place the cans on the same side of the street and make one pass through the neighborhood? Now, I do see where this will not work such as townhomes but those can remain on each side. One trip and done with 1/2 the miles.

I do think Planners would make excellent efficiency experts in this sort of thing.

This reminds me of when I worked in a community that had Total Quality Management (TQM) as a thing, I got put on a committee to improve the interoffice mail system, and lemme tell you that mail dude took all day to what could be a 2-hour gig

more fun was analyzing what to do with an old public works garage and we found a plane in it that no one knew was there or who it belonged to

I've noticed that in my neighborhood, too. They come by the other side of the street about 9 a.m. on Friday, then they don't come down my side until about 11 a.m. Not sure why, but I imagine it has to do with how narrow our streets are (less than 20' wide) and not being able to make hairpin turns.

In related news, why for the love of (diety) do people take garbage to a nearly-empty dumpster nearby, and not just put their garbage bag INTO the dumpster? Why do they insist on putting it in front of the dumpster????

I bought a case of Topo Chico a while ago. I put it in my man cave fridge and didn't throw out the box right away. And now I can't, because my cat Sully has decided it's his favorite spot to hang out. He's def one of those cats who likes boxes.

A few years ago in the early winter, there was a day with some light snow flurries. Hubby, Itty Bitty and I were warmly in our car driving past the town horse stable and saw a small pony running his heart out in one of the fields. The light, the snow, the pony running, everything was beautiful. It was one of the perfect moments of my life when everything was right and okay. I often think about that moment when I am down or need a visualization of peace.

All 3 of my cats loves boxes and bags.

Their rule is "If I fits, I sits"

We leave a couple empty boxes from amazon or costco just sitting around the house for the cats to use. Sometime we let them keep it if it's a favorite. Most just become scratching boxes.
