I just discovered the comedy genius of Harry Enfield.

Here's the South African pharmacist. Try to watch this without cracking up.

Which states have most cardinal/compass direction named colleges ?

Illinois has 4 - Northern, Eastern, Southern & Western
Micihigan has 3 or 4 - Northern, Eastern, Western, & does Central count?
Kentucky has 3 - Northern, Eastern, & Western

Who else?

Georgia has at least six. East Georgia, South Georgia (both juco, I think), West Georgia, North Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia Southwestern

What is it with Pennsylvania and having university like California University of Pennsylvania or Indiana University of Pennsylvania?

(I know the answer is that those school were named after boroughs and counties but there's got to be a funnier response to that question)
I always enjoyed our derisive nickname for Slippery Rock State College as "Slimy Pebble".

I admit that I am amused by simple stuff.

It's essentially the same joke, but it's a knee-slapper!

Arizona only has Northern Arizona U. We don't like to do a lot of public schools here and the juco are all just named after the county, city, or local mountains.

My daughter just told me the most scandalous story and asked me not to tell anyone!!!! Including you. I'm about to burst!
Make - Her - Tell! (everybody, chant with me now!) Make - Her - Tell! Make - Her - Tell!!!

Have you ever heard of or experienced a "displaced left turn" ?
I need to edit given ursus posting -

Have you ever heard of or experienced the road configuration/alignment called a "displaced left turn" ?

Got my notice that my 24 month "promotional" plan for my satellite radio was expiring and the price was going from $4.09/mo to $23.99/mo. :r:

After about 40 seconds with their online chat system, I am now set to renew at $6.09/mo for the next 24 months.

It's like this little dance I do with SiriusXM every so often to renew my subscription or my wife's. Does anybody actually pay the full cost for this? FWIW, I know that it is a luxury and totally unnecessary but I do use it all the time in the car and at home, so at least I feel I get my money's worth.

Do you really like SiriusXM? We have a Spotify subscription because my wife likes to control what she listens to. I go back and forth between Spotify and Pandora and just stream the music though Apple Car Play. However I have been wondering if there is something better.

I do the same every year for the subscription for my wife's car...I negotiate to a yearly subscription with only one payment though...I prefer that to the tracking of monthly payments. I don't see the appeal of Sirius...but she swears by it. Though, the app on our smart TV is used daily for providing background noise in the house for our dog (usually the "Tranquil" or "Sleep" stations).

I've had SXM for 10 years. I do like the variety of stations although I only actively listen to 8 or so of those but will hit a few down the line on occasion. Likely not getting my money's worth (cable, anyone?) but I am paying for the convenience. I justify this by not buying $2 bottles of water or $3 pop - yes, it's pop and not soda - so I have that going for me, which is nice. I do have spotify on the free level but only listen to this at work along with SXM. I rarely listen to FM/AM since I've had SXM or Spotify. On the occasion I need traffic updates I'll tune in but my map does show me road issues.

I'm a sucker and I pay for both Spotify Premium (or whatever it's called) and Sirius. I listen to both many hours a day.

I like Spotify for the ability to build my own playlists and have a lot more control over what I'm listening to. I can also download Spotify playlists to my watch for listening to when I run or workout and I use that feature a lot.

I like Sirius for the ability to turn on certain channels where I know I'm going to like 85%+ of what's being played and just let it go. Sirius is nice because I also like the announcer coming in and talking about whatever we're listing to on occasion. On the weekends, when we're driving somewhere we almost always have the 90s channel on for their countdown from whatever year with DTJB. Or if I'm laying in the hammock taking a nap in the evening or weekend I can turn on the Grateful Dead channel or the Phish channel and just let it go uninterrupted for a couple hours. When the weather is nice and it's warm out, those are probably my two most played channels.

One of the things I really like with Sirius is that I am so much more likely to hear a song that I really like (especially on the 80s or 90s channels or Lithium) but hadn't thought of or listened to in years and years and it gives me the nostalgia feels. I used to love the "old school" hip-hop channel Backspin which played '80s and '90s hip-hop but a few years ago they changed it to LL Cool J's Rock The Bells and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be.

I know there are playlists on Spotify that are supposed to help me discover new music but I've never been that thrilled with those playlists. On the other hand, I can turn on one of the newer pop or hip-hop channels on Sirius and listen for an hour and hear a whole bunch of good stuff (I think one of my complaints with the Spotify playlists is that they feel very disjointed and uncoordinated - you can tell it's just some algorithm putting them together based on the charts whereas the Sirius channels are a lot more curated so you're not going from some trap song to a country song and then some dance song before going back to two more country songs.

My only complaint with SXM is the repetition. When I first heard of satellite radio, it was billed as commercial free (not entirely true) and playing songs that never get played on "terrestrial" radio (not entirely true). When working, I have the freedom to listen to music or whatever all throughout the day unless in a meeting. If I listen to the same SXM station, I know I will hear the same songs from day to day. If XYZ artist has 150 songs in their catalog, FM will play the same four songs, ignoring the 146 others or whatever was not a popular "single" while satellite will also play those same four songs and add a few more that are not singles, and ignore the remaining. Spotify gives you the freedom to listen to all songs provided they are licensed to do so. However, I've come across a few artists in my Spotify library that for some reason have an album that is not available or their library has been completely removed.

NO! you should shred them into a fine powder, distill the powder into its raw ingredients, and use the petroleum as fuel for your vehicle.

*Disclaimer - There is actually a company that does this with plastics, but they sell the fuel and other bio-char byproducts off.
If I am going through that much effort to break down a six pack ring, I'd go all the way and figure out to extract dino dna from the petroleum and clone me a dinosaur, herbivore of course; because It would be awful if the animals that I was trying to save by destroying the six pack ring was eaten by a t-rex created from dna extracted in the process.

My daughter's manager. He was well-liked and they had a good relationship. He used her credentials to fake some of those returns. He admitted to taking $70,000.

Today was supposed to be his last day before he started a new job. I doubt he'll get the new job or unemployment.

To make matters worse, the person who picked up his truck left fast and crashed into a car in the lot. They kept going.

My daughter is heartbroken and betrayed. I wish she'd get angry at him for putting her job and credibility at risk.

How many other animals will die because of the t-rex? Might just be better to leave the six pack ring as is.

IL has more than 4.

Northwestern University
Northeastern University
North Central College
East-West University
North Park University

Are we still supposed to be cutting plastic six-pack rings? Inquiring minds want to know. I feel guilty about not cutting them and silly about doing it. I feel like if I properly throw it away, it's not going to endanger an animal.
I never knew we were supposed to, but then, we don't drink soda . . .

Between podcasts, Pandora, and Amazon Music, we don't really need XM. I heard that our vehicles have this weird thing called "FM Radio" that supposedly plays music, too, but I don't know what that is. :)

This makes my head explode.

This is the kind of thing that makes Baseball awesome. Just when you think you've seen it all, something else happens that you've never seen before.

I saw a video the other day where a runner was called out at the plate. The defender never tagged him. The runner overran the plate without touching it. The on deck batter told him to go back and touch it, but in the process touched the runner which makes him automatically out.

I'd never seen that before either.

There was one case a decade or so ago of a triple play in which the defensive team did not touch the ball.

Runners on first and second. Batter pops up, so he is out on the infield fly rule. Runner that was on first passes the runner that was on second, so he's out. Then the ball comes down and hits the runner who had been on second, so he's out.

= = =

One other baseball story: The first game I ever went to was actually the first of a doubleheader. June 26, 1988. Minnesota at Oakland. I saw something that had happened only twice in MLB history, and hadn't happened since. What was it?

Turns out his first AB was unremarkable, and he lined out to first. Apparently he was nonchalant about the whole thing.

I'm looking at the box score and can't figure it out.

The game is in progress now. If you look at the MLB Game Summary you can see all the substitutions including Jansen going out as a Blue Jays hitter and coming in as a Red Sox catcher.
I love all those "umpire substitutions." I guess there is no rule that says they have to use the same umpire crew to finish the game. (And such a rule would be a logistical problem.)

Just remembering that time when I decided NOT to go to the PDX Light Rail extension opening party, being held at that airport the evening of September 10, 2001. I was planning to go to the party (since I helped work on the project), then fly home to Sacramento the next morning. Decided screw it, changed my flight to the last one out on the 10th.

I would have gotten home to Sacramento eventually, probably via rental car, but that chaos was avoided. There was a public celebration planned for the following weekend, but it was postponed indefinitely for obvious reasons.
