When I was senior in high school, senior portraits were a big deal. A few changes or clothing, professional studio photos, trading pictures. Now? My last senior just had regular school pictures today. In these parts, guess not a thing anymore.

The notion of a formal photograph is kind of anachronistic. When virtually everyone is carrying a camera/phone with them every waking moment, it's difficult to view the taking of a photo as being an 'event' this day and age.

Are we still supposed to be cutting plastic six-pack rings? Inquiring minds want to know. I feel guilty about not cutting them and silly about doing it. I feel like if I properly throw it away, it's not going to endanger an animal.

Properly thrown away items end up in landfills. It's there that birds and other animals get stuck in six-pack rings.

My daughter makes pretty good money as a photographer taking mostly senior pictures, couples with a new baby, engagement photos, bridals, etc. Lots of senior pictures, but they aren't formal anymore. They go up to the mountains or downtown, or out to the salt flats or something and take a bunch of "personality" shots and use those with an app like Canva to make their own announcements. Not like our times. Probably more fun now.

Yeah I find people still do the formal photos for Christmas cards, will you marry me moment, engagement, family, baby - all of it

I cut mine. And nobody else knows.

We have a few places in town that are very popular with photographers taking photos for senior photos and wedding parties and engagements and homecoming. The three spots I'm thinking of in general (in front of a small waterfall on the edge of downtown, in a park right downtown, and in the gardens of a large estate/private school campus) really start getting busy as fall approaches and the leaves begin to change (I noticed some red on a couple leafs in a maple tree in our backyard yesterday!).

Every fall I say I'm going to get a red and white striped sweater and knit hat and go hang out just out of focus near one of those picture spots and see how many photos I can end up in, Where's Waldo style.

I'm going through a make all the developers angry phase. It's actually entertaining.
During my tenure in building inspection and plans review there were very few I did not piss off. To their questions, "What is your problem?", I said not mine, but yours.

Shit's getting real in Russia.

Even if the drones aren't inflicting damage, having to activate anti-aircraft batteries in the capital city is not going to favor the war's popularity.

I also read a report from a Russian source that Ukrainian paratroopers have surrounded Russian soldiers defending Kursk.

Ugh.

I think if you want the fancy-pants senior portrait you have to hire your own photographer.

NO! you should shred them into a fine powder, distill the powder into its raw ingredients, and use the petroleum as fuel for your vehicle.

*Disclaimer - There is actually a company that does this with plastics, but they sell the fuel and other bio-char byproducts off.

For every one that we are behind, there are three that we are ahead. Perhaps your premise is mistaken?

I saw a Subaru wagon today on my commute with a Red Sox sticker on the right side of the rear window and a Yankees sticker on the left - I wanted to follow her and ask wtf

The couple we bought our current house from - he's an Alabama grad, she's an Auburn grad. Apparently they can't watch the annual Iron Bowl in the same building as each other...

We looked at a house who was owned by Arkansas alumni. The master bathroom was RED - carpet, shower curtain, towels, vanity and red accents in the tile and wallpaper.

We did not buy the house.

The guy had converted the living room into his home office, and painted the walls Alabama crimson. I also use it as my home office, and I haven't bothered repainting it since I don't feel like putting on the six coats of another color it would take to hide it.

I thought you would have just added some black accents & a white elongated G

How much school stuff decorate your house?

I have only a "A" ornament hanging off a lamp switch.
I don't even have a hat to wear does that make me bad?

I have a t-shirt with my alma mater's old initials (as I knew it when I graduated tho' now they are some hi-falutin' university, or something). That's it - nothing else.

I have a shirt with the sun devil. I like Sparky, not the new fork crap they use. I also have a sparky totem pole thing in my office. That's about it.

Again? I don't remember them ever stopping, even during the pandemic.

Home Depot got rid of the hot dogs at all their Michigan stores (or maybe it was just SE Michigan?) at the very start of the pandemic. It happened all at once in like March or April of 2020 so I don't think it was really pandemic related; IIRC one of the articles about it in the paper cited concerns about how unprofessional the vendors were at a lot of the stores and how uncoordinated it all was. Some stores had nothing, some had a guy with a Weber grill on the sidewalk, some had carts, some had actual little sheds with all the equipment neatly inside... It looks like all the ones around here now may have different vendors but they all look the same with a nice little red shed with all the equipment inside, standardized hours, similar menus, etc. I've been to 4 different Home Depots in the past few weeks to check them out and still have two more in the area I need to see.

Got my notice that my 24 month "promotional" plan for my satellite radio was expiring and the price was going from $4.09/mo to $23.99/mo. :r:

After about 40 seconds with their online chat system, I am now set to renew at $6.09/mo for the next 24 months.

It's like this little dance I do with SiriusXM every so often to renew my subscription or my wife's. Does anybody actually pay the full cost for this? FWIW, I know that it is a luxury and totally unnecessary but I do use it all the time in the car and at home, so at least I feel I get my money's worth.

I went to the same college as Xmus Jaxon Flaxon-Waxon. California University of Pennsylvania. It's now known as Penn West, which is an amalgam of several schools. I don't think I have anything with either name here.

We do it, too. I hate listening to commercials, and with the surrounding topography, we have some FM radio dead zones, so XM is nice to have.

My T-shirt is plain ol' "ESSC" though it is now part of the Pa University system, making it technically ESUPSSHE, (East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education).

That, I believe, is a mouthful. More importantly, I graduated prior to the name change (just barely).

I'm right there with you. I put it on my calendar when my subscription is expiring and then do the dance with the online chat. You got a really good deal. I use it in the car almost exclusively and also stream at home a lot so it is worth it to me.

What is it with Pennsylvania and having university like California University of Pennsylvania or Indiana University of Pennsylvania?

(I know the answer is that those school were named after boroughs and counties but there's got to be a funnier response to that question)

I was on a geology field camp. We stopped in Boston for a break. A guy saw the van and asked us if the school had a campus in Boston, too. He wasn't joking.

I don't even have my diplomas framed - last time I saw them they were in a box in the closet.

I kind of remember this discussion from that time.

I didn't really pay much attention to Home Depot; I'm more of a Lowes guy.
