Personally, I was a big fan of Nota Bene back in the 80's and early 90's. Long defunct AFAIK. Like all programs of its era, it came on about 4-5 floppies, and its documentation came in a binder.

I cut my teeth on WordStar back in 1986. Just needed a few 5" floppy discs and viola!

Today we went to the Bass Pro Shop in Memphis. It is in a pyramid that is 321 feet tall. While there was a lot of cool stuff there, including the observation deck, I don’t get it. The whole character of what Bass Pro Shop is just does not relate to Egyptian style pyramids.

I don't even need to read the Mission Statement. I just remind myself that the public respects and values the work that I do, and that's enough for me. I am reborn.
 
Once a week in the summer the county health department uses some of the conference rooms in our office to hold free dental, hearing, and vision screenings for kids starting kindergarten. I love walking through that side of the building on those days and seeing the kids coming in. They're generally all smiles and it makes being here a little more enjoyable.
 
TIL that the Ghostbusters theme song by Ray Parker, Jr. is basically a ripoff of Huey Lewis and the News "I Want a New Drug."

Shortly after the film's release, Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism, alleging that Parker had copied the melody (primarily the bassline) from Lewis's 1983 song "I Want a New Drug". The case was settled out of court in 1985 for an undisclosed sum and a confidentiality agreement that prohibited discussion of the case. According to Parker, there were several lawsuits at the time, because "when you sell that many records, I think everybody wants to say that they wrote the song." Parker later sued Lewis for breaching the confidentiality agreement in a 2001 episode of VH1's Behind the Music by reasserting that Parker stole the song. Regarding his case against Lewis, Parker said, "I got a lot of money out of that." Lewis said it was at least $30,000 in an interview with Dutch television NPO.

In a 2004 article for Premiere magazine, the filmmakers admitted to using the song "I Want a New Drug" as temporary background music in many scenes. They also noted that they had offered to hire Huey Lewis and the News to write the main theme but the band had declined. The filmmakers then gave film footage, with Lewis's song in the background, to Parker to aid him in writing the theme song.

I guess they don't show this cartoon on tv anymore. Evidently, it portrays negative stereotypes towards people of middle eastern descent. I can't say that it diminished my opinion of anyone anywhere, or perpetuated a belief on my part that the folks who invented algebra, numerals, coffee, windmills, and the pointed arch are in any way stupid.

I agree. It also did not give me negative image of rabbits and ducks.
 
When was the last time you saw Speedy Gonzales cartoon on TV?

We now have the ability in our office email to click a button and automatically report phishing attempts. In the past week I've reported 2 from HR and 1 from finance (none of which turned out to be actual phishing attempts, just poorly written/addressed mass emails from people I've never worked with before) and twice accidentally reported the lady in the office across from me. I wonder how long I've got before IT locks me out of that "Report Phishing" button?
 
Does anyone know someone that would like to work as a cop or 911 operator in my area? I get a $2,500 bonus if I can get someone to sign up.
 
After a couple people shared a post with me, I continue to be glad I'm not on social media. I'd have to double my blood pressure medicine if I did.
 
The bus left my middle son at the stop this morning. I was behind the bus on my way to work and saw the whole thing unfold. If the driver was even remotely aware of their surroundings, they would have seen him running to the bus from the side. His lunch box was on the sidewalk with the rest of the kids.

The school contacted the bus vendor to raise hell even before I had a chance to call anyone.
