When I was in elementary school one of my classmates did a science project on how many ping pong balls would it take to raise the Titanic. He came in with a 20 gallon aquarium and a mental model of a ship with a hole in the side and bags of ping pong balls and talked about the conversion of his test ship and the real thing with all the different notes about water pressure, size, massing, and such. Even then (like more than 35 years ago) he pointed out that this would never work in the real world because the deck and the floors of the ship were constructed for downward force and not lift. Additionally, the ship is in two pieces and too many of the ping pong balls would come out.

His dad was a structural engineer.
Eventually (hundreds of millions of years from now), the oceans will boil off and then the Titanic will be beached for easy access. :)

What do you mean it's only Tuesday?

No surprise I love The Mummies.

We played a bunch of morning TV and radio shows, (probably not good enough to play Bob and Tom even though we have strong Indy connections) and we always sounded great. Probably because our keyboardist and singer was sober.

Lately I've been kind of wishing I would've stuck with psychology as my major instead of switching in my junior year.

As a psych minor, I'm glad I took the classes. However, I an equally glad I'mI left it as a minor. Psych and economics were two areas that explained why people do what they do.

I switched from Aviation Meteorology to City Planning my sophomore year. I remain a weather geek to this day though and have lots of weather toys, and lots of aviation toys.

Regerts. I had a chance to go to Nashville when I was 19. I met a lady who was a voice coach and was headed to Nashville where she lived part time to put together an album for Lee Greenwood (it was 1990, he was still a thing...kinda). Anyway, she thought a couple of songs I wrote would work for the album if I came back and sang them for him.

I left on my Mormon mission instead. Oh well. I had a helluva time in South America, too. But still. Regerts.

I've noticed there is higher than normal incidence or weather geeks among planning ranks than compared to other professions. Wonder why?

If I wanted to become a weather geek myself, as in get a home weather station, does anyone have any recommendations on what I should get? Trying to figure out if I just want to get a simple rain gauge or maybe something that would measure wind/temp/pressure. I haven't looked but I supposed there are probably WiFi enabled stations out there...

I stalled out in my diet at about 22-23 pounds lost. I just didn't lose another ounce no matter how much I starved myself. So this weekend I gave up and ate like a pig. I didn't gain an ounce. Back to the diet on Monday and I'm a pound lighter this morning. I guess the weekend feast told my body not to be so stingy with burning calories? Or maybe it's just a normal fluctuation. Let's see where we are in another week.
Finally got going again. 29 pounds lost as of this morning.

Is it the same with Geography & Cartography also ?

Yes, I took a couple meteorology classes which, while not required, went towards fulfilling credit hours for undergrad degree requirements.

...working backward from that statement...

"So I got this scar when I was fishing naked this one time in college..."

Not the response you want to give when a job interviewer ask you "can you tell me something interesting about you?"

Well, THAT depends on the job you're trying to get. Technically. :)

I'm gonna rent myself a house
In the shade of the freeway
I'm gonna pack my lunch in the morning
And go to work each day
And when the evening rolls around
I'll go on home and lay my body down
And when the morning light comes shining through
I'll get it up and do it again

I wanna know what became of the changes
We waited for love to bring
Were they only the fitful dreams
Of some greater awakening
I've been aware of the time going by
They say in the end it's the wink of an eye
And when the morning light comes streaming in
You'll get up and do it again

I can't think of a job where that experience would be a positive, but what do I know...

Alaskan fishing boat sailor
Oil rig worker in the gulf coast
The only male belly-dancer in Von Hausen's Finest Travelling Show
Barmaid at the Lumber Yard (location #2)
Sign Spinner (professional grade)
Voice Actor, one of @Maister 's shows
Guest Star on the Prairie Home Companion circa 2001.

I don't know. Maybe it's because both fields involve applying many different variables to see what would happen, or predicting what would happen if one variable out of many changes and how that change affects other things down the road.

Give. Give it. Giiiiiiivvvvvve.......
Not that exciting. I'm a Shrine Clown and we had our circus going. Go support your local Shriner's Circus. It's good family fun and some of them still have elephants if Peta hasn't killed the joy. There is an intermission act while they set up some of the rigging and all us clowns go out and dance a polka like an idiot. The best part was the guy who had a bad hip tried to dance and looked very much like a clown even though he legitimately tried to dance.

I also got to feed elephants, spray the local ABC reporter when he asked on live TV if my flower squirts water, jump through some hoops backstage with some Chinese acrobats, have a professional juggler with one of those Chinese juggling sticks try to teach me - it was great footage for the ad, and I'm now learning some tricks from a former Ronald McDonald.

The best part, my kids "helped" by running supplies around the arena and watched the show then got to hang out backstage with all the performers. My oldest was into autographs then so she has a shirt with all their signatures she proudly wore to school to show off.

I have never - not ever - been more jealous of another human being. Chinese acrobats, humiliated TV personalities, former Ronald McDonald hob-knobbery, and elephants?! I would die from happiness. :) Too funny, man! AND...you're a good dude. High five!
