Our local HS culinary program is starting a food truck. I really dislike food trucks, but I hope theirs is successful. Most of the food I've sampled from them has been great. My kids high school has a nice culinary program - she is not involved. Good food for like $20 a person. I'll have to do it again.
A bunch of people around here have been off to your part of the country for the tournament. Since they bought tickets for both games and don't care who now that their team isn't in the finals, I think they've enjoyed doing tourist thing.Kids had a great weekend of concerts. The NCAA hosted a concert serious with some DJ on Friday, Jonas Brothers on Saturday and Black Keys and Mumford & Sons on Sunday. The kid is exhausted but happy.
At one point, one of the local high school had something similar. They used the commercial kitchen at the local American legion. The food got more complex as the year progressed. It was really good and a good value for the price that they charged. I am not sure why they stopped doing it.Have you ever had lunch at your local vo-tech schools culinary progam ?

As neither sun worshipper nor lunatic I completely missed the almost total eclipse here. I was on a mower with earplugs and safety glasses.AI is a scary thing... I am surprised hollywood didn't make a movie around this eclipse.. but don't worry.. AI's got my back:

I am holding out for the 2078 eclipse. I'll be 10 miles north of the path of totality if I live in the same area then, of course I'll be north of 100 at that time but we'll see.Standing in my backyard and having an event that will never happen again occur was pretty cool. No photo really could capture the oddity. Video does a lot better, but when the birds stopped chirping and the world just kinda went silent. Just really weird.
With that said, 100% recommend people travel to see that. Maybe I'll be that guy in 2044 or something going to North Dakota to see it!

I have came to the conclusion that I would prefer a slightly dimmer sun.The eclipse was pretty lame here in north metro ATL (83% coverage) - oh, look, it got slightly dark for a minute. Basically it looked about the same as it does 20 minutes before sunset. Meh.
Yes, the city is well known for its cattle, and, uh, Christmas-themed picket fences.A brief trip down a Wikipedia rabbit hole led me to the city of Chita in eastern Russia near the borders with China and Mongolia. This city might have one of the cooler coats of arms I've ever come across:

I was waiting for some sort of imprisoned, cosmic being to be released but it turns out all it did was whisper to me for the duration of the event. Things the imprisoned cosmic beast knows and wanted me to convey:Drove to a farm just west of Van Wert, OH to watch the eclipse. All the usual cool eclipse related things were observed (Bailey's beads, the 'diamond ring' the 360 sunset, weird animal behavior, etc). One thing I did not expect to see was people in three different locations launching fireworks during the totality. There was definitely an anticipatory mood on the ground, but I'm not sure the celebratory note was quite right.

1) Love each other. But secretly maybe plot against others in your mind just a little bit, you know - to keep yourself frosty.
2) Stop eating "hawaiian pizza"; it offends the universe and humanity will pay the ultimate price.
3) Your lucky numbers are 12, 15, 7, 28, and 36.
One could do remarkably well playing the Chinese Fortune cookie game with this post. We heard fireworks too! Kind of pathetic compared to the main show in the sky.Drove to a farm just west of Van Wert, OH to watch the eclipse. My grandmother on my mother's side was an Edna. All 5' nothing of her. What a great lady. She worked her whole career at the main desk of the city Parks and rec office. It just occurred to me that I'd never known and Edna in my whole life, but that two of my neighbors right now are named Edna.
You going to pay airfare, lodging & for how long ?Anyone want to babysit Itty Bitty in London in October?
Family names...this could be a whole thread on its own. My maternal grandmother was named Charlie, my paternal grandmother was named Lilla Mae, and her mother was named Eula Mae. I can't think of anyone named Edna in the family tree, though...My grandmother on my mother's side was an Edna.
Today in History -
On April 9, 1865, Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered his army to Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, effectively ending the U.S. Civil War after nearly four years.
NPS said:The surrender occurred in the village of Appomattox Court House, Virginia in a private home owned by the McLean family. In Virginia many of the towns which were county seats were called "Court House". The building is spelled courthouse (one word) and the town is Court House (two words).
My paternal grandmothers name was Ethel and my parents neighbor's name was Edith; my wife constantly refers to both them as Edna. I stopped correcting her sometime back, as it's not really important as both are gone and at this point everyone knows who she is talking about. So she knows two people named Edna and I don't know any.Who else besides me does not know anybody named Edna?
