A bit of history: I know the couple from BikeForums.net. They met on a bicycle tour and she emigrated from Canada to be with him in Tasmania and they got married. Rowan had an accident at work several years ago which included a traumatic brain injury. Charlene has stuck with him and even improved her income by getting a masters degree. They're about 60; this will be the first time they've owned a home. I'm very happy for them.
 
If you buy an 8-pack of Skyline Chili on Amazon it costs over $6.60/15 oz can!!!

I might take issue with it if the US Navy were still launching battleships, but those vessels sailed into the historical sunset after the Gulf War. Since boomers are the new queens of the fleet, I don't have a problem with a new USS Arizona. May she sail long and proud.

I was talking with a river authority employee this morning; she said that the eclipse is a big hullabaloo for them because not only do their power transmission lines work in part based on the (projected to be stressed) cellular networks, they are also responsible for some of the main boating lakes in the eclipse's path of totality and so they expect real safety worries on the water.
 
Lots of clueless/lost touristas driving around over the weekend for eclipse-a-palooza but this morning's commute to work was very quiet, esp in the municipality I work for.

I spent some time in Atlanta last week. We stayed in Midtown and visited the zoo, aquarium, world of coke, centennial park, and some other places. There was a machete stand off at 4:30 in the morning in front of the place we stayed, which I slept through; however, others traveling with me watched unfold. We ate at a Vietnamese Cajun restaurant that had the best oyster po boy that I have had outside of New Orleans.
 
We got to Erie about a half an hour ago. It's pretty cloudy.

Oh. My friend's mom is Taiwanese. She's brought a few Taiwanese dishes-scallion pancakes, fried rice and dumplings. She made those all this morning!
 
Totally clear sky for me but I’m only in the path of about 92% totality.

Currently 62F weather and enjoying being outside.

Color me doubtful. My NPR station is off the air. I and my two cats are too busy to be observant.
 
Regular WFH day for me, but Ill still pop out in 20 minutes to see what's going on, I have viewing glasses. Were only supposed to see 80% here in the NYC Metro.

I have a presentation to give tonight in my Placemaking class (that I am feeling confident on, yay) hopefully everyone's eclipse stories don't eat too much into class time lol.

My kids high school has a nice culinary program - she is not involved. Good food for like $20 a person. I'll have to do it again.
