I went to Redlands High and my wife graduated with her undergrad at U of R. I always associated that street with the Denny's location.
I don't know how old you are (and I won't ask), but my father graduated from Redlands High School in 1965.

Life Pro Tip: Go buy your partner flowers for no reason.
Every now and then I pick up a bunch from wherever. The wife usually says something about X flower really isn't my favorite.

1. I know she appreciates it anyway
2. A change of flower is good for you.
3. It's not like tulips are in season all the time.
4. It's not like I can afford roses all the time. Plus we have 5 rose bushes outside.

Nothing like coming home to raw sewage in your basement. (My house was built way prior to backflow preventers.)
Now to go through the claims process with my employer. What could possibly go wrong, right?

...claims with insurer???

You know, sometimes the stuff just keeps coming. And coming and coming. I can tell already that this is going to be one of those days where the things that I normally find quirky and charming in the workday, well, they're just going to piss me off.

Despite my wife constantly talking to me about dinner out with her aunt, the kids grades, and other things, I was able to focus long enough to get the council packets ready. I love working at home and the wife, but how do I say shut up I'm working like I do to people at the office without treating her like one of those annoying office people.

Yeah good luck with that

Tell her you really need to concentrate because you're looking forward to spending time with her later. Send her flowers and shut the door.

What a charming idea.

You might need a "work" uniform, so that she can distinguish when you are working. A hard hat and a safety vest might be enough; or perhaps a shirt that says "Don't bother me, I am working".

Done! I've actually got my hard hat with city logo and safety vest sitting at the house.

Got an email from my former boss saying that I was "a big part of " My fair city is now Solsmart designated at the Bronze level!
SolSmart is a national program that helps cities, towns, counties, and regional organizations become solar energy leaders.
Scoring sheet shows half of points are by the Zoning Ordinance, which I helped research & write.

I seldom work at home, but when I do, and my wife is home, she knows I will come out of the "office" once an hour or so for five minutes. Bothering me for anything short of a house fire before then will result in annoyance. I wish I could say the same to our cockatiels.

For my curiosity, I am trying to find the house my parents lived in from 1953-1956 in Detroit. All I have is a picture of them in front of a pretty nice Tudor house with the address 18682. I think I have the neighborhood but using Streetview no luck yet. I don't think I have enough info for the assessor and googling 18682 has been unsuccessful. Any ideas?

It could be gone. A lot of Detroit homes have been razed after falling into disrepair.

Dang it. If they'd been there in a census year you could simply look them up.

I thought it could be raised, but the general area (Seven Mile and Highway 10) is still in remarkably nice shape. Here is a typical street but not it:

Credit to you and my wife for mentioning the Census.

AIB TOFB family homes

The house my mother grew up in looks similar in google street view to family photos.
The exceptions being landscaping - now gravel front yard, then grass.

no directories you can consult? Not sure if they would be accessible online, but I'm sure they exist in paper form.

This house in Buffalo is a duplex built in 1908; the first owners were my great-great grandparents, and my great grandparents occupied the other flat. My grandfather grew up there. The neighborhood there didn't fair as well as the one where your parents lived, @TOFB . A search of the area on historicaerials.com shows the neighborhood largely intact in the 1980s but by 2002 most of the homes were gone.

This is from when the neighborhood was new. No driveways, no one had cars back then. Wrought iron fences around the yards. Charming. The tot on the porch railing is my great uncle, born in 1907. The couple holding him are my great granparents. The man at the left (porch) and the woman at the right (steps) are my great-great grandparents. The boy seated near the gate in front is my grandfather, born in 1903.

The house doesn't look so good these days.

Also interesting: The address I have still finds the home, but the street name has changed to Madinah... alternate spelling of Medina, perhaps? One of the holy cities of Islam... reflecting the change in demographics. The old Catholic churches are being converted to mosques.

I can tell allergy season is coming. The 70 degree day today will make that even more apparent.
You're not kidding. I was in misery yesterday. Ended up taking a Benadryl mid-day which pretty much knocked me out (Benadryl was historically developed as a first-generation sleeping pill). I still feel a slight grogginess this morning.

Same down here. I worked outside on Saturday and felt like crap all day on Sunday.

Wow, more searching and I found it. I'll scan the original for a comparison later. 18682 Tracy Street Detroit 48235.

and only 3 blocks from 7 Mile and Highway 10.

In 1940, my Grandfather about 20 miles down the street at Fordham and Queen, a block off 7 Mile.

Some years ago I did a deep dive into Ansestry.com and found addresses all over Detroit for different family members. One is where Wayne State Hospital is located, another is where a hotel sits today. The house above is in a neighborhood where 1/2 to 2/3 of the homes have been demolished due to neglect.

Occasionally, I'll find myself scrolling through Facebook market place looking for a "deal" that I can't pass up. Sometimes random stuff show up in the algorithm but mainly my 'feed" is full car parts and home improvement tools and supplies. This morning, I saw a concert quality didgeridoo for $50 bucks in a town 30 minutes away.... A piece of me really wants a didgeridoo but the practical side of me knows that I don't need a didgeridoo. My impulsive side wants to ask the buyer if he'll take $25 but my practical side is concerned that he will and I'll end up with a didgeridoo that will ultimately end up at goodwill.

My daughter has decided Faygo is the greatest soda ever. I had to order some for her because it's not sold out here.
