I have been at my current job for going on 25 years. Over the years, I have amazed insight and knowledge of past characters involved in the shaping of the City that goes well beyond my time here, to the point that I some times feel like I have worked here for 2 lifetimes. This morning, I came across a development agreement from the early 70's signed by a developer and our mayor at the time. Having met the developer and having heard stories about the mayor, I could almost hear the profanities and smell the cigar smoke.
I was recently going through some paperwork from the early 1960s and recognized quite a few names. Then I realized they are all dead and I suddenly felt very old indeed.

In the same vein as the above, while I have not stayed at the same city, I am currently up for the director's job at the city where I interned and decided I was all in as a planner. If it goes well, I will finish where I started. That would be interesting.

If you do this it deserves a "if I knew then what I know now.." sort of thread.

Last night my dog was sitting on the couch as we watched tv and audibly sighed. So I looked over at her and conspicuously exhaled my own sigh. She then looked surprised at me and exhaled/sighed audibly again. Maintaining my eye contact, I immediately sighed back at her one second later. Keeping her eyes riveted on me she huffed/sighed again. And so this exchange went back and forth for maybe a dozen times with increasing rapidity until we were both at the point of almost hyperventilating. Finally I started laughing so hard I could no longer keep it up. She "won" I guess.

That is un-possible for me. The company I had my first professional job with out of college no longer exists. I was there when the company peaked at 84,000 employees; now they're gone.

I woke up at 4:30 this morning and like an idiot I just kept trying to go back to sleep. Today is going to be a very, very long slog. It already feels like 3:30 in the afternoon inside my head.

Same here- It was the company I had my first profession job with out of grad school. They were huge.

It's illegal in Florida for single women to go parachuting on a Sunday. Rigorously enforced too, no doubt.

There's a 3 screen movie theater next to my office. The movies list on the marque are "The Beekeeper", "Soul", and "Mean Girls". I am so out of the loop on movies, the only one of the three that I may know something about is "Mean Girls", if it's a remake of the one of the same name from the 2000's. 30 years ago, I knew something about all the movies at the theater with the exception of the art films and indie films.

I did an anti-RJ today. My job is on a 4x10 schedule meaning that I have Fridays off every week. Well, not this week. Just too much work coming through; if I didn't work today it would have cascaded next week. Now I might actually have a leg up.

Ack. Just watched a video of the symbiotic relationship between crows and kangaroos where the crows eat the giant engorged ticks from the kangaroos ears. Now I have a horrible case of the icks. Shudder.

I ended up tutoring social studies and English and Mrs. Maister did math and science back when Junior allowed us to assist him with such things.
All of the tutoring falls to me and my oldest. My little is in 6th grade, they are starting to do simple algebraic equations. Next year I’m sure it will ramp up. I’m good for Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Statistics. RT is on duty for Pre-Calculus or Calculus if she makes it that far. We split language arts and writing as well as science.

I have a random thought about never-ending threads like answering questions with questions and the epic GIF battle: I hope they never go away or fade, because sometimes my brain needs a particular itch scratched and I can log on and scratch it on those kind of threads. I don't know what it is, but it slaps that itch of mine. Slaps it good. :) God bless.
It’s why they are neverending and I totally get scratching that itch.

WOW - the CBS Sunday Morning tribute to Chales Osgood.
Yeah, we watched that too. He had a remarkable career. I always thought he was underrated as a poet.

Man what a colossal meltdown by the Lions coaching staff. Some really dumb decisions on the road in that environment. I know they were aggressive all year but sometimes taking points to keep it a 3 score game is not exactly conservative, it's just smart.

I tried to watch, but for some reason they were running last week's episode. The show is still great, but I've missed Osgood since he stepped down.

I generally think the world would be a better place if everybody watched the 1.5 hour show each week. A little news, a little art, a bit of history, a feel good story, some humor, and a calming picture of nature.

I was rooting for them & it was really tough watching that meltdown.
If they had to lose, I'm glad it was San Francisco because I left part of my heart there.

I was in the produce section yesterday and came across pineberries. They look like a washed out strawberry. I'm pretty sure I'd never seen them before and I've certainly never tried them. Has anybody had them? What are they like?

I have had a few. They were suppose to taste a little like pineapple. The ones that I had were tart tasting but I don't think they were as ripe as they needed to be. I wouldn't go out of my way to find them again.

My bag of Russett potatoes from Aldi ended up being a solid third red potatoes. Should I complain?

At what point do you stop helping your ex staff members? Every few weeks, they reach out to me for questions. Like, I left, for a director's job, that you evidently did see me filling, so why not ask your current boss direction versus your ex middle manager?

The Potato Jeanie was doing you a favor when she added much healthier potatoes! Which, you know, are about the same price. I wouldn't be surprised if she was miffed when she heard that you might complain...
You can probably mitigate the situation by making a dish, like soup or potato salad, where red potatoes are better!

:shh:P.S. Don't tell Genie, but the next time you're in Aldi you should probably mention the red potatoes to someone in charge.

Do you imagine going back ever? If not tell them, I'm sorry I don't have time for this.

If you want to be nice keep answering if you want.

Or take the middle approach. Don't pick up calls from them. Respond by text or email and slowly take more and more time to answer. Eventually, they'll stop relying on you and try to figure it out.

When I buy commercially produced tortillas, I expect them to be round or at the very least, symmetrical. Only half of the last pack that I purchased was round with the remainder being misshapen & non-symmetrical. It is difficult to make a quesadilla with those. Time will tell if it's an one off occurrence or if the quality standards for tortillas has became less stringent.

We got a pack like that and I complained about the misshapen tortillas...and my wife said: "These tortillas have one purpose - to make you think they are delicious. If you complain about them, you hurt the universe. Make them feel like the best tortillas in the world!" She literally whispered it, so the tortillas wouldn't hear. :) She's a little nuts. She won't let you throw away pennies...because they'd feel unimportant and useless.

She's so weird. I love her to death.

Big Owl & ursus

Talk about a first world problem - so picky

probably complain about pancakes too?

Pancakes. Don't you just hate how FLAT they are? Why can't they be more like cheesecake, or devil's food, or angel food cakes?

Is it normal to throw away pennies?

This is essentially what I am doing.. I finally punted back and said "tbh [director] should provide an interpretation of this. Myself and the previous director did it XYZ. If you feel differently you should speak up and let it known, as its her show now"
