I'm not supposed to be eating anything that's fried, but have the worst craving imaginable for fried chicken at the moment.

I think that is more of an issue in that many people do not express themselves in writing most of the time, whereas most of us here do. As a result, we think in terms of the written word.

It's gray outside, so I have two random thoughts that I think are pleasant:

1) The Little Summer of St. John. I don't know if it's a real thing or just super-local, but when I lived in Argentina, after mid-winter there was always a kind of regular period of warmer weather before the cold and rain started for another seven weeks or so, and they called it the Veranito de San Juan. Goldie's birthday was yesterday, and I realized that her birthday coincides with that period. So I told her that her birth was a bright spot in my winter, a Little Summer of St. John. She lit up. She never disappoints.

2) Whenever my dad broke wind in any of us kids' presence he would always say "There's a kiss for you." Good times. :)

Probably. A lot of people work until eligible for Medicare. If they lowered the Medicare age I bet people would retire earlier on average.
 
Who else thinks I need a new computer ?
Current processor is a AMD Athlon II w only 4 GB RAM w only single sceen 20"

Looking at a Lenovo Intel Core i5, 16 GB RAM, 27" screen all in one
 
The Doobie Brothers announced their new tour this year & Robert Cray is joining them.

Then I saw that Michael McDonald is also going to with them & decided it's a NO for me.

I am not a fan of AIO machines. Or Lenovo.

Is this going to be a personal machine or for work?

Eh. I used to feel that way. My opinion of MMcD has softened over the years. And I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of old school Doobie tunes before he urbanized them.

I saw the Doobies a few times (the most recent time being probably 20 years ago!) both with and without McDonald and yes, no matter who was singing, they always played a bunch of the older older Doobie stuff. They know what the fans want to hear and aren't shying away from the stuff off of Toulouse Street and The Captain and Me. Honestly, I like McDonald as a singer and like some of the songs he wrote while with the band. I just think the Doobies began to suck as songwriters when they reunited in the late '80s

I saw the Doobies in November in Raleigh when they opened for the Eagles. They were fine but it's funny how they had their own sound mix and did not sound nearly as great as the Eagles. As Henley said, "they build these places for sports, not music so that's why we've got the best sound system money can buy." The Doobies not so much.

My father has an AIO machine which he uses for browsing the internet and email. It works for him. My mother likes it because it doesn't have all those wires hanging out behind it.

I have a list of CDs that I keep at the ready for when people ask what I want for Christmas/birthday. A few selections are newer music, but most of it is filling in holes in my music collection- music I've liked for a long time but never got around to buying the music.

Anyway, I got The Captain and Me this year, and Toulouse Street is still on the list.

AIO are fine for home systems that won't need to be upgraded or worked on and as someone else mentioned, the lack of wires look nice. If it's going to be used for gaming, you will probably want a discrete GPU, not the built in Intel graphics.

One thing we have done with Lenovo machines (they are notorious for preloading a metric sh*t ton of their own crap ware and at one point actual malware) is reinstall Windows from USB (not the system recovery on the drive, as it will reinstall all the crap).
 
My new desktop I built myself at work (mainly for GIS) is an absolute beast of a machine.

Intel i9 13900k, 64 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, 2 - 1 TB SSD.

One of the perks of working in IT.

Of course, there is a push to move it higher. For us younger folks, the idea of working until 70+ for lower purchasing power than prior generations is rather annoying.
 
So much for that idea. I found out today that I didn't get a position that I interviewed for by reading an e-update from their county's economic development page. They hired internally and I think the person they hired is going to do a great job. it would have been nice for them to call me to thank me for interviewing, but inform me that they went with another candidate.

Sorry about the job, man. That happened to me last summer. Found out I didn't get the job when they announced they guy that did. His resume was, admittedly, incredible and they'd have been wrong not to hire him, but still - it's an email, and how many of us could there have been? I have always called everyone who got an interview, but then didn't get the job. A call is the courtesy that's owed, an email is a nice gesture at least. But neither? Well, it's rude at that point.
 
Our oldest is in 8th grade and I was helping her with her algebra homework last night. They're doing a unit on linear equations. Linear equations! In 8th grade! Crazy!

Thankfully, having taken "Algebra 301: Linear Equations" three times in undergrad, I'm obviously an expert on the subject!

Not being math inclined (and having forgot everything I learned), I could no longer help my daughters with math starting around 7th-8th grade lol

I ended up tutoring social studies and English and Mrs. Maister did math and science back when Junior allowed us to assist him with such things.

Luckily my daughters turned out incredibly smart with math so we didn't really need to help thank god.

I was such a big fan of The Americans on F/X when it came out. They used this song for the series' opening episode and I though it was such an odd choice, but it totally worked.

Haven't seen a show as good as that one in a while.
 
I have a random thought about never-ending threads like answering questions with questions and the epic GIF battle: I hope they never go away or fade, because sometimes my brain needs a particular itch scratched and I can log on and scratch it on those kind of threads. I don't know what it is, but it slaps that itch of mine. Slaps it good. :) God bless.
 
I have been at my current job for going on 25 years. Over the years, I have amazed insight and knowledge of past characters involved in the shaping of the City that goes well beyond my time here, to the point that I some times feel like I have worked here for 2 lifetimes. This morning, I came across a development agreement from the early 70's signed by a developer and our mayor at the time. Having met the developer and having heard stories about the mayor, I could almost hear the profanities and smell the cigar smoke.
