^^Great idea! I just ordered one!
And it arrived yesterday! Beautiful! I need to get a frame, but the overall drawing came out lovely!

I really like being able to choose the background color. Her blankets are blue, so I chose the color that I see her with the most.

Awww! I'm so glad you love it. So I ordered a custom picture with four of my mom's rescue dogs that passed away over the last couple of years and... he mixed up two of their names! I didn't tell him, and once it actually arrives I'll see what I might be able to do to fix it. But even if I can't, I think it's okay and my mom will love it regardless. He did a really great job on the drawings, and he gave me a great price, so I don't want to be too snotty about it, you know? (I did double check that I gave him the correct names, but it's the kind of mistake I feel like I could easily make.)

I think if you stick to one drawing at a time, you're in good shape, though! :)

The blanket I bought for my wife is perfect camouflage for Zoe.

lp - that's great.

Our lab loved the water and would dart out of our car whenever we went to the beach. Having grownup on the shores of Lake Huron, dogs that love the water are fun. When I was a preteen, we lived at a Lake Huron beach house for two summers and even the Pekingese we had at the time enjoyed the very shallows. She wasn't a swimmer, but she loved bouncing around in the shallows.

This was the first summer she went into the water - the previous summer she wouldn't go near it - so yeah it was fun watching her go in - she's only about 10 pounds so we have to be careful with the tide changes though

Tomorrow, we're taking Bearcat to the vet for his final visit. He has bone cancer, and he's reached a point where it's starting to hurt his quality of life. Bearcat is an easygoing dude, who likes his humans, his little kitty sister Zoe, food, looking out the window, food, touching noses through the screen on the patio door with passing neighborhood kitties, food, forced cuddles, and food. He's one of those cats you can have a conversation with; ask a question, and he'll respond with meows like he's talking to you.

I took this photo yesterday. He's been laying in front of the patio door a lot more lately.

Sorry to hear that Dan. It's a tough decision to make. You and the missus hang in there.

Old Bearcat was a very special cat. He'd come if you called his name, like a dog. If he stayed downstairs when I went up for bed, I could coax him into following me up with a friendly voice. The vet says he was one of the few cats that was affectionate with the staff when he had a visit.

Thinking about it, we should have named him "Klaxon", because every day at 5:00 PM, give or take a minute or two, he'd sound off to demand dinner. REEEEE! onemississipi twomississippi threemississippi REEEEE! onemississipi twomississippi threemississippi REEEEE!, for as long as it took. After dinner, the same thing for treats. Afterwards, he'd cuddle with me when I watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

bearcat_02.jpg

He was missing one of his canine teeth, so he sometimes looked like he was scowling. (He was a former stray that was in rough shape when we adopted him.)

Zoe loved him so much. When we got Zoe as a kitten, she was very assertive in making herself Bearcat's feline friend from the start. "You WILL play with me! I WILL follow you and sit next to you and groom you and cuddle with you and there's nothing you can do to stop it ha!"

Anyhow ... FFS. Yesterday, we adopted two kittens; nine week old male and female tabby littermates.

We got them for Zoe, who got depressed fast after we put Bearcat down. She's a very social cat, to the point where she'll rub noses through a window screen with visiting outside kitties. We think she'd have a very hard time alone, since she never lived a day without another cat around. We still have to introduce Zoe to the kittens, but she sits a lot next to the door of the room where we have them now. No hissing.

The kittens weigh ... what, maybe a pound or two each, but I hear them upstairs running and playing. Earlier this morning, I slowly opened the door to the office, where we have them now, and they both came running up to me. Teeny tiny little purrpurrs.

Thank Science for allergy shots that effin' work now, and my employer for providing health insurance where there's zero copay to get them. Years ago, a cat in the house would have brought on an attack that would have made cedar fever seem mild. I'm still somewhat allergic, but at least I can breathe clearly around them now.

Glad y'all got a couple of shelter kittens and gave them a good home. Sounds like a good match for Zoe.

Overlapping pets is the way to go. For a while I had three ... eldest needed to cross the bridge. Her younger buddy's time came less than a year later. :'( My loveable dog-in-a-kitty-suit was miserable, and after a couple days of sitting and looking at each other, I signed up to foster a Lil' Bub-alike, who matches your new pals. She never left. And she adored the fluffy guy.

I added a street find from a friend, who turns out to match: raccoon stripes, similar size. It took a little while to adjust.

The loveable big ol' orange guy ... his time came. I went looking ... humane society was playing the "we know better than you how to be a cat owner" so I went to Craigslist.

Is this comfortable?

Yeah, it kind of is

Go away, dog. You're not a cat.

He was a feral that a catlady friend has been feeding. He wanted to be an indoor cat but her indoor cats didn't much like him. The dogs are getting used to him pretty quickly.

Kitten pile! Those little farkers grew big fast!

What? Nothing going on here.

Is it a twap?

Zoe (the gray tuxedo) loves belly rubs, almost in a dog-like way. Bearcat 2 likes them too, but will try to pull your arm in and play, especially if I give him beebees. Lily has razor sharp sickles on her paws, so I don't even try.

Me: Ah, yes, my sterotypical suburban guy recliner in the den...
Our youngest cat: Thanks for the comfy bed, dude!

(I keep the towel on it when not in use by me because he sheds like crazy.)

Re the grandson, my wife is, as my mother used to say, "standing on her left eyebrow".
And ~7 mos is the best period. They're super cute, squiggy, interactive, but can't move on their own yet.

Congrats.

I have (effectively) 3 early teen boys you could borrow for a month or two if you like. :p

Had to help our sweet girl across the bridge last night. We found out she had signs of kidney disease a month ago, and up until yesterday, she had a few bad days here and there, but usually bounced back the next day. Tuesday night, she hopped off the bed around 10 or 11 pm, and then just was never able to get her legs back underneath her. The decline was much more sudden than I was ready for, but it was clear she was suffering and wasn't going to just bounce back. We were fortunate to be able to get her into the vet yesterday, and I was right there with her until she took her last breath.

She was mine to love for 11 years. She was a very challenging dog to manage, but she was my adventure buddy and was really sweet and tolerant of PeachFuzz. I'm thankful to have so many good memories with her. She'll be missed.

What a beautiful shepherd. I am so sorry for your family's loss. And let's face it - they are family.

So sorry for your loss. You did the kind thing helping her transition. We've lost 2 pets to kidney disease.

Sorry for your lose

Maysa is at the vet for surgery to remove a mast cell tumor. You can't see it in this picture (other side of torso), but it's close to her armpit and based on imagery could be deep.

Fingers crossed! She's 13 with a heart murmur, so this dog mommy is extra worried.Maysa1.jpg
