Not really into "video game" movies, but we want to give Knuckles a try--it's set in Reno and was partially filmed here (albeit with a lot of CG enhancement.) Apparently at one point the big ball on the bowling stadium rolls down the street.

Found Loudermilk on Netflix recently.

Liking it so far. Pretty hilarious.
Finished this last night. Overall, highly recommended though there is an unnecessary and distracting B plot in the first season for a couple episodes.

Rant: it's strange how Mrs. Maister and I can be watching the same shows at the same time sitting side by side, yet somehow seem to have entirely different experiences watching them. For example, we've both seen every trek episode from every incarnation ever made, yet I will routinely drop trek references into daily life and 90% of the time they will go right by her. This weekend we were talking about a family member who seems to have difficulty getting their point across in conversations. I made a reference to 'Darmak and Jalad at Tenagra' and Mrs. Maister says "what?" as if she'd never heard it before. I had to explain it to her, which of course any time you have to explain either a joke or a reference you've failed to achieve what you were hoping. I have concluded she's not really paying very much attention to what's going on screen virtually any time we're watching tv. She can't remember a show that she watched two days ago, yet she can give you verbatim quotes from conversations I've had with her YEARS earlier. Go figure. I guess maybe I should feel flattered that she apparently values what I have to say so much more than tv.

Finally finished this over the weekend. Excellent show, but very challenging following all of the intrigue and plot twists.
We started it last week. We might watch it once a week, but not a multi-night binge. If I'm having trouble following it (and I've read the book and watched the 80s miniseries twice), I can only imagine how little the wife is distilling from watching it.

I've never read the book and only vaguely recalled the 80s miniseries, so I'm sure she's struggling.

I used Google several times to help me understand what was going on.

I had the advantage of having read the novel multiple times, unlike Mrs. Bubba. Watching the Dune remake was sort of the same experience (at least for Part 1, haven't watched Part 2 yet) - I'd read the novels several times, and Mrs. Bubba hadn't, so she more or less slept through the movie.

Finished Dune parts 1 and 2 on the Max streaming service. Awesome stuff! Loved it! They are going to make a third movie and the Max streamer is going to have a show about the Bene Jesseritts.

After seeing the two movies, I wonder, are the Dune movies "cli-fi" (climate fiction)?

If my wife is only going to listen to either a TV show, or to me, I would hope it was to me.

Some people like to just watch TV (or a movie) and not have to think too much about it. I've watched all the Harry Potter films but to be honest, the later it got into the franchise, the later it piqued my interest, and I don't care to keep track of "vital details" from earlier in the saga when they pop up later.

Have been watching "Orphan Black" over the past couple of weeks (free if you have Amazon Prime) and I highly recommend, reminds me of the X-Files with the biotech and military conspiracies. My sister apparently binge-watched the entire first season over the weekend (10 episodes). I am so impressed by Tatiana Maslany's ability to convincingly act out all of the distinct "clone" characters.
A new Orphan Black series starts June 23 on AMC and BBC America.

We started watching Person of Interest again and, 12 episodes in, I think it's better than I remember it -- maybe because the government surveillance is even more plausible in 2024. The only problem is that I want to start a new episode when it's time to go to bed.

It was a great show that was a head of its time. The same way the movie Enemy of the State was before its time.

We got this series on DVD right after the show ended and haven't seen it in probably at least five or six years. I was just thinking last night about watching it again.

Now that my college-aged son is home from college, we watch an episode of Daredevil here and there - I like it!

I also am watching season 3 of The Outlaws

Just finished Sweet Tooth and Brooklyn 99 on Netflix. Still working on The Boys (amazon), Dr Who and Star Wars (Disney)

I was at a conference all week last week so I had a bunch of time to myself. Not the happenist of downtowns so after my typical late afternoon run or walk and some dinner and a swim in the hotel pool I'd retire to my room. I watched all of Generation V and then the first 3 episodes of the new season of The Boys (once they dropped later in the week).

Generation V was a lot better than I was expecting for a spinoff.

What did you think if the new season? I enjoyed the previous three seasons, but I did not make it through the first episode of season four. Between Homelander putting his greying pubes in a jar and the protest of the woke mob versus the MAGA mob incited by a black female supe recruited from Detroit to enact Homelander's schemes... well, it was just too much for me.

I think a lot of the show goes for shock value so they get people talking about the pornographic daisy chain or collecting pubes. It also does a very heavy handed mockery of our society with the MAGA crowd stuff. The storyline itself isn't that bad though. How will they get rid of the mutant vice president?

It's always been really heavy handed in the satire of the MAGA/Homelander crowd so that stuff didn't bother or surprise me too much and I agree that the show likes to have a few pieces of gross or sexualized bits that seem to be for pure shock value. That said, I don't think the start of the season has been the strongest but I'm sticking with it. I think I might actually go back and re-watch season 3 before starting over with season 4.

The VP has been interesting and after just watching Gen V, I wonder if they're gonna bring in any of those characters (particularly the ones who were stuck in the hospital/prison at the end of the season like Cricket (who may be my favorite of that series), Marie Moreau, Andre, or Jordan since they know what the VP is up to).

In the end, I really just wish The Boys would become all Kimiko all the time because I love her storyline and she still brings the comic relief while kicking @ss or taking an @sskicking.

Starting watching Bull a couple weeks ago. Just started season 2 this week.

Working my way through Vikings Valhalla on Netflix. That part of my ancestry will be proud, especially my grandmother. I like but is definitely not family friendly.

With Bob Newhart passing last week, I've started to watch Newhart on Prime. Glad the Kirk Devane character only lasts two seasons. Really annoys me. Just started S2 last night and Julia Duffy replaces the first season character (her cousin). Peter Scolari has yet to make an appearance. S1 on Prime is missing an episode and the very last episode (the dream and Suzanne Pleshette) of the series, which is weird. Likely others missing; must be a licensing issue, but for what? Of the main cast, Bob Newhart, Mary Frann, Tom Poston (who was married to Pleshette) and Peter Scolari are deceased.

Did you know that William Sanderson ("Hi my name's Larry and this is my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl") was far from being the village idiot, and actually had a law degree from Memphis State University?

I just started Snowpiercer, ending my break from dystopian tv - not bad

I loved the movie and my wife and I really liked the first season of the TV show but made it through the second season and never bothered with season 3 for some reason, and I know season 4 just began. I recall the TV show being good but for some reason it just didn't hold our attention. I really like Daveed Diggs though so maybe we should give it another try.

I wanted to make a pun about us abandoning the show when it went of the rails, but that never really happened.

Interesting. I was thinking wow, that must have been a long time ago, because Memphis State has been the University of Memphis my whole life. Then I realized he was probably at least in his early 40s in the mid-80s when the show ran.

That's my favorite running gag of all time.
Watched an interview with Bob Newhart where he said the characters of Larry, Daryl, and Daryl were originally only written into a single episode but the audience reaction to them was off the charts, and they introduced them as regular cast members shortly thereafter. He said every time they took the stage the studio audiences used to burst into spontaneous applause before they even said a line. They were fan favorites.

Larry never cracked a smile, never laughed and always played his character totally deadpan serious. The actors that played Daryl and Daryl never uttered a word but were both reportedly happy to have had regular employment over several years saying no lines.

This reminds me of a drinking game we played in college called "Hi Bob!" We played whenever reruns of The Bob Newhart Show came on. You can guess the rules.

Re: the original Bob Newhart Show, I recall a specific episode where Jerry (the dentist) decided he wanted to try to be a children's book author and wrote a book about brushing teeth where each page had only one word on it... "Brush (turn page) your (turn page) teeth (turn page) up (turn page) and (turn page) down...etc." Later on in the show he gets a response letter from one of the publishers he submitted it to. Jerry eagerly opens the letter in front of Bob, remarking how it was a thick envelope ("must be very good news. It's three pages long!") Their letter read: "Sorry (turn page) not (turn page) interested."
