I've started watching 'The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'. You can see Tina Fey's influence all over this show.

Comedy Central has been airing a basically non-stop marathon of South Park in preparation for the 21st season premiere tonight. I've been watching that for the past week or so. I forget how freaking good that show really is.

South Park had a handful of really awful seasons about 7 or 8 years ago (although there would always be a gem or two of an episode in there) but they really turned it around after that and have been pretty consistently great since then. I always want to be Randy Marsh for Halloween but don't think anybody would get it. Maybe I need to get a wheelbarrow to go with the costume?

Oh man, everyone would get that you're Randy Marsh for sure. South Park really speaks to everyone, unlike Family Guy or any other Seth McFarlane vehicle. Wheelbarrow would work. You could also go with his Lorde getup if you want to be more up with the current seasons. It would be great to get a group of people to go as various Randy Marsh's. You could throw one Gerald Broflovski dolphinectomy to really get it done.

For those looking for a binge/marathon on a cable network...SYFY is bringing back episodes of Battlestar Galactica (the re-imagined series, not the late 70's/early 80's series) starting with the "miniseries" on Friday, 9/22.

If you like sci-fi, good writing, and just plain old well put together television (and you haven't seen it)...highly recommended.

I'm sure it's available on one or more streaming services as well.
 
I'm working on American Horror Story now then catching up with the last season of Walking Dead.
 
I watched season three of Bojack Horseman in about three days last week and was sad when it ended. I'm not binging on anything else right now.
 
Started watching the Australian show "Dr. Blake Mysteries". So far six episodes in and its good
 
I saw the first episode of The Orville. It's not bad and I'll continue to watch it. However, they need to tighten the script. I always like a humorous take on sci-fi. Hope they take some light hearted jabs at the typical sci-fi tropes.

Watch the second one. It was MUCH better, script was tighter, acting was better, story line was solid. I watched it only because in some weird way I feel that I "owe" it to Seth McFarlane because he's brought me a lot of laughs over the years and I feel this really is his passion project. The show moves to its regular Thursday spot on the 21st I think. That could hurt it, but who really knows. I think I started into it thinking it was a sci fi comedy, but that's not what it is. It's a sci fi show with snark. I hope it lasts, I like it quite a bit now.

Did you see the dog? First thing I noticed.

My wife is watching Call the Midwives and insists on telling me about how great it is and all the old high school friends on the facebook are watching it, especially the guys. I told her I'm revoking their man cards and she went on about how their watching it for the story (about nuns that are midwives), the setting, and the writing. It just dug a deeper hole for pulling man cards.

When they're talking to the scientist there's a dog licking itself in the background. I love how the show makes fun of thing you never see in sci fi. There is never some random thing like a dog in the background. The person is always centered on the monitor. No one ever goes to the bathroom.
 
Begun Orphan Black Season 1. The first few episodes were great, nearing the end of the season and I think it's lagged a bit. But will keep at it for now.

Enjoy. I enjoyed it for the most part, though there are story arcs it didn't like. It's a bit uneven over the 5 year run, though it finished well. I liked the show, but it had run it's course.
 
Started Season 2 of Dr. Blake Mysteries last night. The end of season 1 he found out his wife had died but they located his long lost daughter. When he goes to visit her and ask her to return to live with him (she'd gotten separated from him when she was 4) she rejects him. I wondered why the writers did that. I thought at first maybe they didn't want to write a new character in (a daughter) but then it occurs to me the character Dr. Blake only works well when he is a tortured soul. So that rejection was vital to the story arc

Yeah, probably watch it Friday on the app since the wife is watching shows, recording shows and otherwise hogging up the TV. Do not get between her and TGIT.
 
Finally working my way through Peaky Blinders - up to the second episode of Season 3. Had no idea Cole Finn was in it - he essentially plays the exact same character that he does in the TV adaptation of Animal Kingdom.
 
Got caught up on recently loaded episodes of The Blacklist and Cleverman as well as the Patton Oswalt special

My daughters tell me to watch Mindhunter next but I am also thinking Dark Matter

Also patiently waiting for Stranger Things to get loaded up
 
Just got done watching the one full season of Freaks and Geeks. FANTASTIC. I can't believe it didn't make it past one season due to ratings. Production value and writing were just stellar. So many future greats in that cast, and maybe it was just way too far ahead of it's time. Seriously, if it came out today as a Netflix Original it would have killed it.
 
Started watching Miss Fisher Mysteries this week.

It's true, yesterday's (fictional) heroes are portrayed demonstrating today's virtues. She'd be a formidable woman today, but absolutely scandalous by 1920's standards.
 
just started Ozark and it's really good - I do want to watch the next season of Stranger Things but I am saving it lol
 
Bridget and Eamon. Who doesn't love Married with Children like dysfunctional 80's Irish nostalgia 8-! Weird

I got through the entire second season this weekend. It probably would've been better if I'd remembered more of the first season, but it was excellent regardless.
 
I finished The Defenders, which wasn't bad. I was going to binge on House of Cards, but have decided to pass given the circumstances. I'll probably do either Stranger Things or one of the Wallander series.
 
Looks like The Orville got picked up for an entire season. Even though the critics don't like it, it's not bad. It's snarky and some of the gags fall flat. However, here recently, it's went full on Star Trek by making social commentary, showing the consequences and mixed results of decisions. It's really had some poignant moments. The show has some depth and promise.

"It's not bad" really doesn't do it justice in my opinion. It's a downright good show. I wouldn't consider it great just yet, but it's getting there. The acting has really picked up in recent episodes, and the story lines are great. The episodes are generally well written, and the humor mix is just about right. I hope Fox doesn't screw this one up like they did to Firefly. I suspect they'll let Seth MacFarlane do what he wants though. He's one of the most valuable commodities in the TV business, and he's exclusively been with Fox.

Agreed. It also has multi-generational appeal... I watch it with my kids (well, my older one) and my parents like it. Same for my boyfriend and his kids and parents. Some of the episodes have been a lot "deeper" than I was expecting, like the gender one and the "democracy by majority" one.
 
Loved Stranger Things 2. Heck of a followup to the first season. Working on Season 2 now of Mr. Robot. Also an awesome show but a major mind trip.

The "democracy by majority" one has been done before (Black Mirror S3E1 Nosedive). I think The Orville did a good job with it though. The gender one was fantastic. Of course it too has been done before, Star Trek TNG did it with S5E17 The Outcast. I liked The Orville's take on it much better though.

I think the best part about it is that each episode has really been about developing specific characters and giving us a small glimpse into their lives off the ship. Seth MacFarlane has evidently started dating Halston Sage (who plays Alara). I hope whenever that inevitably ends, it doesn't affect the show any. Alara is one of my favorite characters and it'd be a shame if she gets pushed out.
 
The Orville episode I like was when the captain and red haired guy infiltrated the enemy ship. They destroyed the ship before it blow up a colony, which is a good thing. They also saved the children from the ship, an act of mercy. However, as the teacher pointed out, by saving the children, they created a new generation of enemies.
