Las Vegas jobs

Pretty good, at least in terms of numbers. I am always seeing jobs posted for Henderson, Laughlin, Bullhead City, etc.

Job? Vegas? Yikes!

I have heard that there are numerous opportunities in Vegas for planners...I jsut have to put that thought out of my mind though. First of all, my wife would NEVER allow it. Second, I would go broke in two weeks. But, MAN, would it be a FUN two weeks!

Seriously, though, they're growing like CRAZY out there. Planners are surely needed, big-time! Just gotta look. APA, Planetizen, Cyburbia, ITE, etc.

^ Your area is growing like crazy too though, especially with 'The Villages'.

Sorry off topic - some of my wife's family (grandparents) lives in Lady Lake.

I met a Vega planner at the 96 APA conference in San Diego. We had a great conversation over a few beers.

Here is the basic site plan application:

You want WHAT?!

How Big?!

Where?!

OK

It's funny, I lived in Douglas County, CO, widely considered one of the fastest growing counties in the US (if not the fastest), then I moved to Osceola County, FL, and they took over as fastest growing. Now I work in Lake County, FL and its more of the same.

If there's one thing you can say about a career in Planning, its that there's a lot of job security...with the growth that many of these areas is experiencing, Planners will surely be essential.

By the way? The Villages? May I just say WOW!

They are not even CLOSE to being built out. Our MPO includes the portions in Lake & Sumter Counties...but then there's a large portion in Polk County too! It's a mammoth project.

I have a buddy that worked in the Vegas sphere of influence for a while. Little planning and a lot of approving, very long agendas at Planning Commission. He did talk about the great perks from the developers at Christmas time. Things like VIP passes to the certain strip joints. You have to have the right mind set to make it very long.

Off-topic:

Does anyone find the rapid development of desert cities like Las Vegas to be somewhat.... scary? Where's the water going to come from?

Lake Mead - it's a big lake & as long as they can get to the water before southern California does all power to them.

What is ITE? Also, does anyone know of any good consultants or developers to work for in the Las Vegas? I'm interested in trying out the private sector.
