I wish I had an ice cold glass of Vernor's ginger ale right now.

Ginger ale seems to come in three varieties: the stuff that tastes like Vernor's, stuff like Canada Dry, and that 'ginger beer' stuff that tastes like someone made it from a root they pulled out of the ground.

I like the first two (Schweppes falls into the second category)

Vernors. Ginger Beer is just weird. I love Ginger Ale with cheez-its. It reminds me of my childhood.

A vote for Vernor's, which I also grew up with.
 
Ginger ale was treated as a psuedo-medicine growing up. Mom used to give it to us when we had an upset stomach. I don't know that it ever did any good medically but it sure tasted fine.

I prefer Blenheim's gold cap when I can get it. The red cap is ok, but spicy hot. I'll buy Schweppe's if I can only get grocery store ginger ale.

I like it to taste more like ginger than sugar.

I bought some Vernor's recently, and didn't like it as much as when I was young. Ale8One is pretty good, too, but hard to find around here.
 
Vernor's (beechwood aged) is always 1st choice, nothing else has that back of the nose tickling quality. Canada Dry second. There is no third.
 
I'm stricly a canada dry, although last month I had some Fanta ginger ale in Central America. I can't stand ginger beer and I have never seen nor heard of Vernors.
 
Grew up with Canada Dry, and its medicinal use as described. Also don't know if it was effective, but I got to drink it alot when I was sick.
 
Growing up, Canada Dry ginger ale was Mom's go-to beverage if we had an upset tummy. Since she was from the classic "cocktail party" generation, she always kept some in her pantry; as a mixer, mostly, I guess, but also maybe in case any of her grandkids had a hankering for some. I don't think my kid's ever tried it. Anyway, it's been decades since I've had any; I need to try it again.

Canada Dry was probably the most common ginger ale in my household when I was growing up. Yup, that was the required "medicine" if I felt nauseous or had an upset tummy. These days I like Schweppes... we always get Schweppes tonic water to make gin & tonics.

I've acquired a taste for ginger beer. We had some homemade ginger beer at a restaurant in Montserrat when we visited, and it was great stuff - not carbonated - perfect in hot weather.

National cocktail of Sri Lanka

3 parts ginger beer
1 part coconut arrack (basically like rum but made from the sap of coconut tree flowers)
Serve over ice

Those bastards at Heathrow confiscated my bottle of arrack. I think it's because the South Asian security guy knew what it was and took it home with him.

They changed the formulation at some point around the late 1980's-early 90's and started using high fructose corn syrup instead of stevia as a sweetener.

Vernors has been made in Michigan since the end of the Civil War. Many Cyburbians may not have had it because its distribution has historically been limited to the Great Lakes and New England area. I believe it is more widely available these days. Can any Cyburbians living west of the Mississippi or south of the Ohio confirm?

I am generally a Vernors man myself, but first had Blenheim's a couple of years ago and now buy that quite often. I love the spicier red cap version. The only problem with Blenheim's, at least here in the Detroit area, is that it's expensive - I can get two 12 packs of Vernors for the price of one 6 pack of Blenheim.

There is a neighborhood down the street from me known as Vernors Estates. Every time I drive past I wonder if the land originally belonged to the founder of Vernors...

Vernor lived on Vernor Highway near Woodward, a few blocks from his pharmacy.

I just looked him up... it looks like he died on Grosse Ile so the neighborhood by me was likely not him. Maybe it was platted by a grandson or something (FYI, it's the area on the west side of Lahser between Lone Pine and Long Lake). Or maybe it was just platted by a fan of the beverage...
 
I grew up preferring Vernor’s over Canda Dry (my dad used to say Vernor’s was the “real” ginger ale), but I don't think they sell it out here, las time I wanted/needed some I bought the Hanson's soda brand. But now I'm going to double check! Ginger beer, ginger ale, ginger tea, and ginger candies helped me survive morning sickness while pregnant.

This Bear enjoys Vernor's Ginger Ale. Good stuff, although with my pre-diabetic body I have to be careful. When I was in high school I always drank Canada Dry Pale Dry Ginger Ale.

I was just reminded of a story. I went to a coney with dad and he ordered a Vernors to go with his dog. They brought him a regular ginger-ale and he became irate and made a scene. :-c
 
Just a reminder that with Thanksgiving Day approaching you'll want to have some Vernor's on hand for the holiday punch bowl. The simplest family-friendly punch imaginable is a 50/50 mix of Vernor's ginger ale and cranberry juice. Add ice. That's nice.

We appear to have different conceptions of 'family-friendly'. Although I suppose one might feel much more favorably disposed towards one's family after tossing back a few cups mixed with vodka.
 
I have never had vernors :-$

I like Canada Dry and I like the ginger beer blends too as well as the crafted ginger ales (sodas with sugar and not syrup) :hm:

nothing is better than ginger ale and saltines when you are sick +o(

I don't typically mix it with whiskey but I will try that

I know you are on the opposite coast from me lp, but out here the Verrnor's is sometimes in the alcohol section of the grocery store, with the "mixer" ingredients. It depends on the grocery store. Others will sell it in the regular soda aisle.

Canada Dry Diet Cranberry Ginger Ale with a wedge of lime - very nice.

Your list is just beginning. You'll get to the point where one of things you'll look forward to going home is shopping at stores you can't where you live now and getting things you can't get in your new home. I really miss going to Kroger's, and Meijer's and I'm not a shopper.
