I have a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Urban Policy Studies concentrating in Planning & Economic Development. Overall undergrad GPA is 3.27. Graduated in 2005.

Worked as a planner in the P&Z department of what was at the time the 8th fastest growing county in the nation for about a year and a half. Also have some other minor experience in smaller roles in local government. Additionally, worked for other more legal oriented employers (i.e. State Attorney General's office)

I'm going to graduate from law school this coming December (Dec. '09) and am interested in practicing land use, zoning, and related law. The economy sucks and I'm having a hard time finding a job. Thus, I'm considering applying to GA Tech's MCRP program.

What kind of GRE score would I need to be competitive in the applicant pool? What kind of GRE score would I need to be sure to get in?

Thank you all for any insight you can offer.
 
From year to year, the mean GRE ranges from 1170-1230. Compared to the LSAT with Law School, the GRE isn't nearly as critical for most planning programs.
 
Thank you WarderJack. Do you go to GT? Or an Alum? Could you tell me more about the program? I've read here that is very hands on and less theory approach....after law school...I like hearing that. What is the curriculum like overall? With the exception of final exams...what kind of out of class time commitment does the program require?

In reference to admissions and such....do you think if I score just below that range my non-scores may help me get in?

i didn't go to GT, but i did visit and apply. GT has a great program with a lot of different options in terms of courses and professors. they also have really great financial aid. if you can hit around 1200 on the GRE you should be fine given your experience and GPA. i would highly recommend their program.
 
Hmmm....

I wouldn't worry a second about GRE scores.....you're an attorney and was able to get through law school:-| Plus how worried could the Tech be about grades and scores when they allow their graduate students to get a couple C grades during the graduate program?

The people I've worked with from the Tech have all been top notch folks, I'm sure you'll love the program:p
 
Thank you everyone for the information. I guess the reason I am worried about GRE scores is because I am a little self-conscious about my experiences.

So here is a little more about me.

I went to Georgia State for undergrad, and that is where I received my B.A. and B.S.

The county I worked for was Paulding County, Georgia. At the time it was the eighth fastest growing county in the nation. But it isn't known for being a sophisticated local government, like say Cobb or Fulton County. That being said I did a lot of plan/development review and wrote a lot of zoning analysis.

I am going to Atlanta's John Marshall Law School, and it is provisionally accredited by the American Bar Association, and although it will likely be getting full approval by the summer of 2010, the school isn't regarded as one of the top notch law schools in Georgia. Though I personally believe the law school is top flight, and is producing top flight attorneys. But if I were going to Emory or UGA, somewhere with a strong reputation, I think that might have the weight to carry me in on "low" GRE scores, but I'm not going to try to bank on it here.

It seems like the opinion of many of the folks on this board is that practice GRE test results are bunk. But I have taken one practice GRE on the Kaplan website at about 2 AM in the morning. I wasn't taking it seriously and hadn't prepped at all. But I scored around 900 overall. I am taking a paper practice test tomorrow morning. I will let you guys know how it goes.

But any other thoughts? Thank you all.

Just take the GRE again if you need to....no harm in that....besides $:D;)
