Forum games 🎲 Gen X and the Oregon Trail computer game

I didn't grow up playing Oregon Trail. Rather I picked up playing it as an adult. No, not for educational purposes, but treated it as a 'survival strategy' game before the genre really existed. I had a copy of Oregon Trail 3rd Edition which featured fishing and hunting. I used to buy minimal supplies in Missouri and would instead fish and hunt constantly until the wagon was heavily laden with food, then I would trade dried meat and fish for items and cash along the trail. I usually arrived in Oregon with a wagon filled with furniture, other expensive items, and flush with cash. Pretty much broke the game.

Plus you notice the movie is being pitched as an 'action/comedy' film. You KNOW what kinds of scenes that will require....

I played the OG Oregon trail on green screen IBM PC's via 5.25" floppy disquette. These were 1980s machines that my elementary school had leftover in 1996-97, along with newer Mac's and Gateway PC's that ran both Windows 95 & 3.1, depending on the machines age.

I just went to the Oregon Trail Museum (the National Trails Museum....also talks about the Sante Fe Trail and the California Trail) in Independence Missouri in October. It was amazing. I got to play Oregon Trail in the Oregon Trail museum...I made it into the top 5 scores. Highlight of my trip hahaha.
