3. @luckless pedestrian I'm planning to hike the Precipice next Monday or Tuesday, weather permitting.

Yikes - it's already icy in parts so pack some spikes

Chowder at Thirsty Whale is pretty good

If you are flying through my fair city, let me know if you want to grab lunch on your way back.

@luckless pedestrian I ummm, may have gotten kicked out of the Thirsty Whale in 2016. Although to be fair, it was one of my traveling companions who actually was the offender. But we all were asked to exit the premises. So then we really kicked it up a notch at the Dog and Pony!

I just like Geddy's so will be there Saturday for lunch. And I'm super partial to Sip's in Southwest.

2. Council tonight but I gots nothin' on the agenda
3. Unknown Brewery's Hazy IPA is called "Giggle Juice" and its pretty good too
4. I've got several CM credits to add to my AICP log from the state virtual conference, but they're not listed yet

3) At the office today, and already want a nap.

4) My intern turned in his notice. He's going to intern at a city in a dept more in line with his studies, and is also closer to campus. I will miss him.

1. I was home yesterday with a severe backache
2. Have had to keep delaying the canning of the final batch of pole beans for one reason or another
3. I would not be able to identify Olivia DeHaviland from a photo
4. McMurdo Station Antarctica would be an interesting place to work for a year.
5. We're about 60% fall colors right now.

1. No sorry, you can't put a camper in your backyard for your son to live in until he saves enough money to rent an apartment.
2. Indications are there will be NIMBY blow back for a proposed development at tonight's Planning Commission meeting - I should bring popcorn.
3. Speaking of which, I hope I get to the TV before first pitch for Game 1 of the World Series.
4. Have had the windows open for a couple days & its felt so nice.
5. Pumpkins, alcohol, sharp cutting implements = fun!

1. The status quo is better than the alternative - this is my feeling about the local election
2. I don't know which is worse, the public hearing debate or the fall out (either way) from the decision
3. I need to Yard-A-Pault a couple jack-o-lanterns into the woods this evening, they are very soft so I'll have to use a shovel
4. I did not eat a Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkin this Halloween season
5. Getting ready for baseball tonight & a Braves World Series Title

1. We're at peak colors now
2. I bet I eat more salted cocktail peanuts in a month than you do
3. We carved no jack o lanterns. Now we can keep the pumpkins until Thanksgiving to use as decorations
4. I'm getting into a rut
5. Junior failed all his classes (except shop) last marking period. He refuses to let us help him and insists on failing "on his own terms"

1) Not feeling it today. But then again I slept like crap last night.
2) Still not sure what to get for a wall Calendar for 2021
3) I have to go to the grocery store, then to vote, then home to cook dinner.
4) I haven't watched much hockey this season. But it is still early.
5) They are talking about changing our insurance carrier at work... I am worried that we will lose coverage for my middle son's Autism related therapy.

You want to relive 2021?!?!!?!?!?!?!!!!!! Why?

1) The ZBA had my back at last night's meeting more than I feared they would
2) It's hard to think of the 1980's as being 'quaint' but after seeing "We're Not Gonna Take It" on dandy's playlist I think we're there now.
3) Chrysler K cars are quaint
4) Max Headroom is quaint
5) Back to the Future is quaint

1. Mrs. P forgot to reset the clock next to the bed. She woke me up asking if I was sleeping in.
2. The Girl ran her 1st half marathon this weekend and did really well.
3. Getting weird vibes from a "developer" on a proposed project.
4. One item on tonight's agenda could go for 5 minutes or 55 minutes & I've got no idea which way it'll go.
5. My Spidey senses seem to be off (see #3 & #4).

1. Getting excited about Christmas markets!
2. We have made it almost a year as a 1 car family.
3. Gonna have to buy a 2nd car soon.
4. I think Scottish is my favorite accent even though I can't always understand it.
5. Got some things accomplished but still feeling overwhelmed.

1) Oven died over the weekend. Ordered the part on Saturday and it arrived yesterday morning so I installed it at lunch. Works great now.
2) Lower spray arm on dishwasher came off, then melted on the heating coil. Ordered a new one and it should be here tomorrow.
3) Sent away for Health/Ancestry DNA test kit. When I get the raw data back, there are a bunch of sites that I am going to go to. I am fascinated with this and how the information can impact longevity. Year 2021, here I come!
4) Got to the gym at our amenity center this morning. All of the weight lifting benches were in use.
5) When traveling, I am more interested in going where the locals go, than where the tourists go.

1. For about an hour each morning, the sun blazes in my eyes if I'm sitting at my desk
2. I rake leaves, more leaves fall, repeat the process
3. I'm not sure why I like the Great British Baking Show - I don't bake, but I can now tell you what's wrong with a baked good
4. Talking about taking some trips in the Spring, including APA and maybe the Keys
5. Had a lady call & was mad because I didn't respond to her emails - I looked back and had each time & asked her if she checked her 'junk email' folder - guess what happened next.

1. I almost went off on the military DMV equivalent person and have the joy of dealing with them again tomorrow.

2. We technically bought a car but don't have it in our possession.

3. My one kitty is nearing the end of his life. 😭

4. Doggy has a plane ticket for December.

5. Plant burgers for dinner!

1. Wife got Shingrix shot number two today. Wonder how long this vaccine is good for?
2. Lots of dull work to do today.
3. Wonder why we haven't heard any new music from Peter Gabriel in a long long time?
4. Go forth
5. Did NOT get a very good night's sleep last night. Couldn't get to sleep and couldn't find the melatonin I recently bought.

1. Annual charity softball game between Police and Fire is tonight. Cops don't have enough players so yours truly has to step in with them.
2. Won my first gold medal at a pickleball tournament this weekend. My mixed doubles partner and I went 5-0.
3. They lost the medals so they have to mail them to us. :r:
4. @Planit book now if you're planning the Keys in the spring. There are some deals to be had but that's prime time then.
5. Getting excited to fry and eat Thanksgiving turkey.

1) Work has been crazy but awesome lately. I feel that we are really making a positive difference in the community and so much is being revitalized.
2) Health check came back much better than expected. We will see how things are again in 3 months.
3) I have mixed feelings regarding our federal government and the future of this union.
4) Learned that my grandfather is not going hunting for the first time since 1947. This is one of the things he was most excited for so his age must really be getting to him, and the realization of his age is really getting into my head. If only there was a way to not have to give up stuff that you love as the years go by.
5) Most of my staff has their birthday's within 2 months of each other.

Tonight commences three straight meeting nights.
The first two should be rather easy, comparatively speaking.
Thursday could go sideways, pretty easily.
They say they are close to fixing the climate problems in my office. We'll see.
I've started ordering Xmas stuff. I can't think of a time in my life where I ever started this early.

1. Today is kinda Thursday instead of Tuesday in the office
2. The 15.5 lb turkey is in the refrigerator thawing
3. We may have to put the turkey in a cooler filled with ice water to hurry things along
4. Tonight is pizza night
5. Today is Junior's follow up appointment to evaluate his ADHD med

1) Hockey game tonight!!

2) We only had to be in the office 1 day this holiday week, so I did mine yesterday.

3) Mom has a date for moving to the assisted living facility.

4) Swiss chocolate balls are great - and taste their best right after a stressful meeting.

5) I bought 2 bottles of wine for Thanksgiving. There are only 3 people so I believe that'll be enough.

1. I got my hair colored last week by a new hairdresser.
2. I'm getting it fixed this afternoon.
3. I am going over in my mind how to exactly convey what I want and not end up with my hair falling out this evening.
4. I am a little nervous.
5. Incidentally, I'm also not extremely motivated here at work today...

1) My kids' school is an absolute train wreck. We will be trying to get them into a different school next fall, but it is going to be dependent on a lottery system.
2) It is going to be well below freezing here tonight. Tomorrow morning is cardio day and I am looking forward to my run in the cold. However our dog will not run in the cold. We even bought her a coat that she is willing to wear, but she hates the cold so much it does not matter.
3) Planning a bathroom renovation and looking at replacing the tub with a large walk in shower and replacing the standup shower with a sauna.
4) We are doing chili for dinner tonight. Given the weather, I feel it is appropriate. It will also give me leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
5) Our dog has a pattern first thing in the morning. She goes outside and does her business, then comes in and I hive her a treat. But she will try this act with every other member of the family thinking they don't know that I already gave her a treat.

1. Council workshop prior to Council meeting with big public hearing (with nimbys) on the agenda tonight
2. I'm going to drive to the institution of knowledge & pick up The Girl tomorrow - hopefully going early enough traffic will only be awful but not truly awful
3. Our dog likes to be outside during the evening & will look inside like he wants to come in, we open the dog & he just stands there but won't come in
4. He also thinks that whenever someone is putting on their shoes, its time to go for a walk
5. The CM resigned this morning

1. With the CM leaving, he's been tasked with tying up a few loose ends he's let slide. Now there's a rush on some things we've discussed for years. Typical to form.
2. This will be an interesting few months here, but I believe the Interim will knock out a few things we've been waiting for direction.
3. Just submitted our Brownfields Assessment grant application. That's a load off my mind, particularly after having issues with submittal last year (although I did get it in).
4. Burn Ban for the entire state went into affect yesterday. It's very dry & Pilot Mountain State Park is on fire.
5. Need to complete my AICP CM credits. I need to log in 3 webinars & complete a couple more.

1) I've hit my limit for now. I'm going to log off and recharge for a bit, then log back in after dinner.

2) Working from home allows this split schedule on days like today. If I had to do a split schedule every day, I'd hate it.

3) Parentals got an offer on the house!

4) This upcoming weekend will be busy.

5) I've had 3 cups of :coffee: today and still feel like I'm about to fall face-first onto my keyboard.

1. We decorated the house for Christmas this weekend except putting the ornaments on the tree. Saving that for when The Girl comes homes tomorrow.
2. There are basically 3 items on tonight's Council agenda: 2 easy & 1 could take a long time.
3. Getting tired of some of the gossip flowing around here.
4. My elderly aunt had a covfefe moment yesterday when she was texting us about Christmas plans. She texted B b oooiii but had no idea about it.
5. I wonder if the CM will complete my evaluation before he leaves.

1) ^^Speaking of evaluations, I just got a notice that I need to start writing my self-evaluation. With the amount of stress going on in my personal life, asking me to write about myself in complete sentences is asking a lot of me.

2) My MIL is very sick and she is in the next state over, so taking care of her is hard.

3) My dad actually had an answer when I asked him what he wanted for Christmas!!

4) I haven't started putting out seasonal decorations. I should get on that . . .

5) I really just want a nap.

1. I am taking the afternoon off
2. I think Christmas markets are fun
3. I don't know
4. Need to figure out dinner tonight
5. I'd like to grill something but its like 19 out and that's going to result in a not very fuel efficient use of charcoal outdoors.

1) I feel freaking awesome today. I slept well, had a phenominal workout this morning, and overall feel terrific.
2) There is a longevity forum board that I started interacting with last week. I am impressed with the number of PhD level scientists from major universities around the planet that post, and read posts, on a regular basis. I find it funny how the point out conflicts between the FDA in the US and other global regulatory agencies.
3) A guy I knew from HS passed away last week. We were not close friends or anything, but he was a genuinely good person who did a lot for my hometown. His past actions and programs that he started will leave a legacy for many years to come.
4) This morning I hung up a "Rick Stephen's Tour of Europe" calendar for 2022.
5) I have come to realize that I am not going to accept advice on money from broke people, health advice from unhealthy people, spiritual advice from people who don't believe, or life experience from those who's life I wouldn't want. Not saying I can't learn something from them, but sometimes it is learning what not to do.

  • Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
  • Philip K. Dick
  • J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Ursula K. Le Guin

The rest are more Sci-Fi.
Vonnegut would explicitly disagree with you.

“I have been a soreheaded occupant of a file drawer labeled "science fiction" ... and I would like out, particularly since so many serious critics regularly mistake the drawer for a urinal.” ― Kurt Vonnegut, Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons

I think he was responding to the critics of sci-fi. Sci-fi has matured since then.
