I'm in the middle of NC. I bought gas from an old style pump and had to flip up a lever to dispense gas.

I met a woman who's on a 6000 mile road trip and is sleeping in her car at night. She may be older than I am and I admire her.

Any time I come to NC, I wish I could stay permanently. But I don't want to be far from my grandson, who was born in NC but now lives 2 blocks from my house.

AirBnBs are getting expensive with added fees.

I prefer long weekends to week-long trips.

3) I resurfaced the deck last weekend with composite. It looks terrific. I am going to do the trim work this weekend.
4) The question of what makes a small town really great has been on my mind for the past few days.
5) I was looking at records and realized that the population of my City has doubled since I have been here. However the housing stock that has been built has not been all that great.

4) Was really tired last night and went to bed early (for me). Yet I slept poorly and am tired this morning.

5) I want some fall donuts :donut:- apple cider or pumpkin. Or some pumpkin bread with chocolate chips!

1 - this has been a long short week

1) I am going to sleep in tomorrow, then take the dog for a run, then mow the lawn, then finish the trim work on the deck.
2) Pondering getting my youngest a new bike for his birthday. He has a 20 inch and it might be getting a little small for him.
3) I have a business that is trying to play games and I am getting really sick of it. I want to push forth with legal action, but the Town Attorney is throwing up road blocks but won't show me the regulatory steps that he claims we need to go through first.
4) I am going to open up some windows tonight. Tomorrow morning's lows will be in the 50's.
5) The City of Raleigh announced yesterday that it would not approve the permit for the City of Raleigh for the first time in 80 years. However today they said that they would approve a non-motorized parade. People walking, balloons, marching bands, dancers, and more. Just no motorized vehicles. Personally, I think it is a great idea.

5) So far, the HS my sons went to, North Crowley, is 4-0 in varsity football and ranked #10 in Texas (out of 1500+ HS teams). I didn't see that coming.

1) Do you have your SMART goals ready?

2) I stayed up too late reading, I am dragging this morning.

3) Why is it still so hot???

4) Had two good meetings this week. Hopefully this afternoon's will go as well as the others.

5) I'm thinking Mexican for dinner.

It's been a good week for bike riding.

A popular band is playing an outdoor concert on Main St. tomorrow night. Thousands of people will fill the streets. I live on the Main St. detour and it'll be like a parade back here.

I missed a big part of summer by working out of town. I'm sad that summer is ending.

I asked to be appointed to the trail board again. I'm unhappy about something they aren't doing and the only way to fix it is from the inside.

Don't complain about something if you can't be part of the solution.

  • Had leftover skirt steak and potatoes for breakfast.
  • It feels like this has been a long week.
  • Waiting to see if there is going to be a government shutdown; if there is I will be furloughed.
  • The humidity has finally fled and it is very pleasant outside.
  • I received a $600 bonus plus two hours time off for giving a presentation at a recent regional meeting.

1. Beautiful day, got to bike into work.
2. Friday night is pizza night- I have dough doing an all-day rise in an olive-oil bath in my biggest cast iron.
3. I hate it when electeds try to meddle in individual land use decisions on behalf of a relation/crony.
4. Meeting with kitchen remodel people next week. I'm convinced when they start saying "forever home" that just means "50% cost increase."
5. Dealing with a trailer park lot line dispute is about as pleasant as it sounds.

Bonus round: memo from AOT: "We didn't put in a crosswalk to the new park and ride facility because we don't expect it to be used by pedestrians."

1 - bought an e-bike today because it was heavily discounted one day sale
2 - Mrs. P will be able to ride now because of the hills in the area make it difficult to pedal for casual rider
3 - I fear The Girl will try to take it to school even though she has a road bike for riding & mini-tris
4 - brother coming in this weekend, so we'll be going out to dinner somewhere
5 - the silly season is getting sillier - can't wait until local election is over in 5 weeks.

4. Change in the seasons is playing havoc with my system
5. Big transportation conference in town next week - but I ain't going

1) It has been a hell of a week, but ended on a good note. I decided to work remotely for the remainder of the day.
2) It is going to be raining tomorrow so I might spend it in a good book.
3) Our family has a really great dog. She is protective of her boys, loves meeting new people, and always seems to be happy.
4) Wife is on call today and I really don't feel like cooking. It might be a pizza and beer kind of night.
5) I was going to pick up the youngest from school, but the rain hasn't started yet so I will let him ride his bike home today.

5) I may have dessert for dinner while he's gone.

1 - Mrs. P's weekend plans with her sister have collapsed - primarily due to her sister
2 - I'd love a good night's sleep
3 - the HS asked for a crosswalk to be put in after they asked for it to be removed 6 years ago
4 - I'm not sure about the ursus nickname for me, but the others seem spot on
5 - ebike delivery delayed - I had it shipped to the store & was scheduled to be there Tuesday but still a no show. My friend ordered one the same day & had it shipped to his house - he got it Monday.

1. Pancakes for dinner!
2. Toe beans.
3. 4 day weekend. Woot.
4. I forgot how graphic Closer by NIN is.
5. I, too, would like a good night's sleep. I don't have high hopes.

  • My dad would have turned 99 today
  • He passed away a few weeks after his 69th birthday
  • We had a complicated relationship
  • I modeled a lot of what I focused on as a father on what I perceive he failed entirely for me
  • Still, I see a lot of him in me and I'm mostly comfortable with that, if that makes sense

1. I never know exactly what to pack for a conference.
2. I want to go do some fun stuff but I want to look professional too.
3. Going to the Texas/Kansas game tomorrow. That could be a shootout.
4. Have to be at the airport at 5AM. Ugh.
5. Big food truck festival in the park behind City Hall. Lunch was a smorgasbord.

Worked in the field today doing what I love most about my job.

I had lunch at a restaurant that's in an historic building that was built in the 1760's.

We're scheduling as many bike rides as we can before the weather turns.

What I really need is a weekend off.

I'm trying to get to Louisville this fall to see my aged uncle.
