Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1. The past 2 nights I have had dreams involving various Cyburbians.

1) "Working" today, but cutting out early.

2) Warm temps and sunshine here after a big storm.

3) Most of my seeds sprouted, but am still waiting for blooms. My caladiums are looking good too, but something likes the pink leaves (but strangely ignores the green and white ones).

4) Vacation planning for the end of this month mostly complete - just have a couple of day trip type things to confirm.

5) Strange dreams - I've had a couple of those lately, and I know they are a result of stress. My mom's health continues to decline and it's hard to watch.

At least it is not nightmares.

1) Took today off... but I have a virtual meeting this afternoon that I have to participate in.
2) Great session at the gym this morning. I broke 3 PRs and I am sure I will feel it tomorrow.
3) They said it was going to rain today, but it is in the mid 80's humid, and mostly sunny. I did get the lawn mowed today.
4) My dad has been working on one car project or another for years now. He is in a car club and this weekend is the 30th anniversary and he has only had one car in the show which was at least 15 years ago. Well, he got his 63 Ford Econoline Van finished just in time for the show this year. He is beyond excited.
5) After today, wife only has four days left at her current job... unless she quits before that. She is so fed up with things. One of the people had their last day today, wife and two others have their last day next week, and another is leaving the following week. The hospital is 'investigating' the issues. One of the doctors is recommending that they shut down the heart surgery division until they can figure out how to keep their nursing staff.

Name the Cyburbians and we can tell you how badly or not we wanna hear about it.
lol.
Well one of them has a T in their name. And another has an E in their name. And there may have been a third with an S in their name.

1. My goal is to finish ONE room in my house this weekend; just one place that doesn't have chaos will make all the difference.
2. I forgot my keys today which made me have an off start to the morning.
3. Also forgot my phone...
4. Farmers' Market tomorrow -- woo-whoo!
5.

  • great weather today
  • posted next week's ZBA/PC meeting agenda packet
  • having a little cheese and an apple for lunch
  • going to Six Flags tomorrow morning (two of my boys are extremely excited)
  • awaiting personal professional news

1) High of 100 today (or if the clouds hang around, 99). I'm not ready.

2) No big plans this weekend. So I might clean out the front closet again in prep for donations.

3) MIL is having some issues with her jaw after the marathon surgery earlier this year. Not fun.

4) Ever reached a point of IDGAF while actively taking notes at an important meeting? I had to hope my in-a-public-meeting-face still worked.

5) I'm hoping that I don't melt this summer. Or that the dog doesn't overheat - she loves to sunbathe even when it's 110 outside.

1. Leaving for a week in the Caribbean next Thursday. I am having difficulty concentrating at work.
2. Obviously I need a vacation where I can unplug.
3. Just learned the requirement to Covid test to return to the States expires Sunday. Excellent news!
4. Budget went just fine last night but the rest of the meeting went completely sideways.
5. We've had a lot of heavy storms this week. We are in a pretty bad drought so anything helps.

1. Budget was easily passed this week, all the talk had come before so there were no surprises
2. This morning was the annual employees breakfast
3. It looks like the highs all next week are going to be between 95 & 99 rendering the deck unusable until dark
4. My back is barking at me yesterday & today
5. Going to CLTFC match tomorrow, but rest of weekend is not committed.

1) I was working on paperwork regarding the federal payoff for student loans only to discover that I might not have 10 years, because it is from October 2007 to now, and I spent mid October 2007 to May 2015 on the dark side. I am still going to file the paperwork because I it will still be applicable for when I do have 10 years experience.
2) I am going to have lunch with the wife at a local restaurant since she is not working today.
3) If all goes well, I should be able to take a shower in my new shower on Monday Morning.
4) I ordered two t-shirts that the wife liked and I am shocked by how expensive they are. But the wife thinks they would look good on me so I got them.
5) I have always wanted a motorcycle. Something classic but not full chopper level. However, the wife is a nurse so you can guess where that conversation went. The City Clerk backed the wife on that conversation because the Planning Director a few before me was killed while on a ride over a holiday weekend.

Mrs. P told me from the start there were 2 ways to guarantee she would leave me.
1) have an affair
2) buy a motorcycle

1) This has been a very difficult week. But my budget was approved and it included funding for me to go to APA in Philly next spring, so that is a good thing.
2) I have figured out most of the long-term design for my backyard landscape. The biggest question is in regards to the public storm water easement that is on the side property line, 10-feet of which encroaches into my yard. The practical part of me realizes that I should not plant anything big in that area knowing that it 'might' need to be dug up within my lifetime. Part of me does not want to forego 10-feet of space. Even more so, it is the south property line and trees would be a great benefit in this area towards shading my lawn and creating a privacy barrier.
3) Buffalo Chicken Sandwich for lunch while I watch a webinar, Pizza and Beer for dinner tonight.
4) Social Media WTF of the week... A person who was in the drive-through line at the local taco bell got out of their car, walked up to the drive-through window and threw a slushy at the window to protest the slow service. Reason the service was slow was the manager was dyeing of a heart attack inside.
5) Helping my wife with the student debt forgiveness program thing. Hospital that she first worked at when we moved down here outsources their employment verification for past employees. The 3rd party company will not sign the form.

1. A decent week by recent standards
2. Next Friday I go to FLA to pick mom up to spend the month of July here. We will go see a retirement village for potential move up this way
3. I'm currently writing another RFP
4. Big development headed to the Planning Board which should prove interesting
5. Budget good here too so start looking for a Stanfest site in Philly mskis!

Mskis 😲 to Taco Bell.

When I wanted privacy without planting big trees, I used butterfly bushes. They grow high and lush in the summer and I cut them back in the fall. I dont know how they grow in your part of the country.

1. Taking next week off
2. We're maybe going to do a couple day trips but nothing special planned
3. I frequently find myself scrambling in the days/hours before going on vacation but this week has been something else
4. We've harvested a quart of strawberries so far from our garden and have maybe another two quarts coming online soon.
5. Down at the sunset grill

1) Today's meeting calendar is busier than normal for a Friday. But with vacation and the end of the fiscal year only a week away, there are a ton of things that I need to get wrapped up.
2) I hope to be able to get some pool time in on Saturday. I will be in training all day tomorrow.
3) Middle Son did not do well on his state standardized tests. They don't count towards his grade and are a measure of the school rather than the student. The school wants him to retest, however it sounds like he can't get the same accommodations that he gets for his other tests.
4) I ate lunch at my desk while working. I might go sit outside for a little while to soak in some sun.
5) I realized that I really don't have much free time these days.

1. Went home for lunch, gussied up a leftover sandwich, and followed up with a donut!
2. Coaching my first kickball game tonight!
3. Volunteering in a beer tent tomorrow at my Township's celebration!
4. Seven Zoom meetings next week!
5. Listening to music at my desk and manning my phone all day.

1) Vacation next week through the Holiday!

2) Dog:dog: goes to my aunt's place when we travel. She gets so spoiled she is a PITA for a few days after we get back.

3) It's a heat wave! Or as Texans call it, early summer.

4) I really need to get away - and am so glad vacay is around the corner!

5) Mom starts new chemo meds next week.

1. Mom has been here for a week now - it is 'interesting' to say the least
2. I'm writing 2 RFPs & waiting on responses for 1 I wrote last month
3. Toured retirement apartments with Mom this morning & she actually liked what see saw
4. 8:00 am department Head meeting on Tuesday morning after the long weekend
5. Going to Aunt & Uncle's house on the lake tomorrow for food & fireworks, but don't really have any plans for Monday

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY Y'ALL

1. Was a long week after being on vacation last week but I still feel good.
2. Learned that my neighbor is the woman singing opera at the end of Pretty Woman. That's cool.
3. Don't think we're officially out of drought status but we've had a lot of rain the last week. That's a good thing.
4. Attended funeral for our councilmember today. Graduate of Naval Academy and a pilot so military honors. Taps always tears me up.
5. Not really looking forward to jagoffs in my neighborhood shooting off fireworks late into the night all weekend.

1. I've been getting some things done here today.
2. My hot water tank started to leak last Friday or Saturday. Fortunately, I was heading for a short vacation as my landlord was also on vacation. He'll be over tomorrow to look at it.
3. No matter where I am, I'm always grocery shopping. I bring home things that I can't find in stores here. I've had no luck finding Weetabix.
4. I'm not sure how hot it is outside and I don't need AC.
5. A loaf of rye bread is about finished baking. It sure smells good.

1. Mom has put down a (refundable) deposit on an unit. Long way to go before crossing the finish line though
2. My shoulders are peeling from the sunburn last weekend
3. These last 2 weeks have been super busy, not sure next 2 are going to be any less
4. Golf game tomorrow has been cancelled & that's a bummer
5. Meeting friends for dinner tonight @ the Mexican place, grill tomorrow night, leftovers for Sunday!

1) Over the past several days, I have not felt all that great. It has been a combination of decreased energy, apathy, lack of focus, and lower interest in things. Therefore I have been undergoing a bit of a reset. Getting back to basics, trying to figure out who I want to be and how I want to live, and digging into what makes other people healthy and happy. The interesting element about this reset is thus far, I am not discovering anything that is really all that new to me, but instead reaffirming past goals, ambitions, and direction. The oddity of all this is vacations are supposed to be therapeutic, but this one, while still great, seemed to has done the opposite to me. As the saying goes, I need a vacation from my vacation.

2) My kids attend public school, at least at the moment. The younger two are still in elementary and are on a year-round calendar, whereas the oldest is in middle school and is on a traditional calendar. The younger two will start school on July 29th which gives the oldest another month of summer vacation without his two brothers home with him. The different schedules only line up for July, spring break, and the end of December for a couple weeks. However, we are trying to get them into a public charter school in the City that I work in which is a K-12 school. Not only does it have far better scores than the public schools, the special education program is amazing.

3) Yesterday I took a moment to catch up on some filing work that has been piling up... literally. With that, I discovered several back issues of magazine publications that I read quite some time ago. I made me wonder what others do with magazines after they have finished reading them. Personally, there are a couple, such as Planning, that I will archive in a box on my bookshelf. Others, such as Government Technology, get put in the recycle bin.

4) About 5 years ago, the local state laws changed and it required that if schools are being built in your municipality, that whom ever the owner of the public road is (State or Municipality), that the owner is responsible for reimbursing the school district for any required road improvements associated with the construction or restoration of that school. This put a profound burden on smaller municipalities, so some restricted where schools can go, and specifically required them to be on State roads. A new bill is now being reviewed that prohibits such a regulation and requires that schools be permitted by right within all zoning districts. Since we are a fast growing municipality and in need of more schools, this is going to put a substantial burden on us in the future.

5) In the month of June, there was a notable precipitation deficit (only 0.7 inches total) that was causing drought conditions. However, the monthly average for July is 6 inches, which means that we will need a couple really good days of soaking rain to catch up. Personally, I have my mower deck set as high as it will go to help promote deep roots. I didn't mow last weekend and it is well past due, but it grows so much faster and has stayed so much greener than my neighbors lawns this summer.

1. Managed to not loose any of the bazillion pounds I wanted to prior to vacation.
2. Apparently I am a chaos junkie.
3. Bought a new backpack/ purse. Not sure I love it but it was 50% off.
4. The dog needs his nails clipped.
5. Hungry.

1) Half day today because of event tomorrow morning.

2) Not sure I like my new jeans.

3) Seeing dad over the weekend.

4) Been suffering with insomnia the past couple of weeks.

5) Had a productive chat with my planner re: growth and skills.

1. This promises to be a busy weekend canning garden produce. Beans and blueberry jam
2. I think we're going to designate our cucumbers for salad usage and buy cukes later on for pickling
3. The older I get, I find that the things that please the most are the simplest
4. two miles away they had winds that knocked over an oak tree. At the same time we experienced what would best be described as 'breeze'
5. Time to increase our stocks of foodstuffs at home again. You never know what the future holds.

1) Another Texas summer day - triple digits and drought.

2) Going to see the Thor movie this weekend.

3) Need to get my nails done.

4) Is it naptime yet?

5) I don't know what I'm cooking for dinner, but the oven will not be involved.

1. Spending the weekend on Hilton Head. Friend has a condo and offered it up. So a 20 minute away mini-vacation.
2. The dog can go!
3. Seriously contemplating if the dues paid to APA/AICP continue to be worth it.
4. Got my first cortisone shot in my knee. This aging crap sucks.
5. Really jonesing for steamed blue crabs. They just don't do them right around here. A trip to MD may be needed.

1) Ethics webinar today was fun. I really applaud the Ohio chapter for their webinar series... just not THE nut school there.
2) I did something this morning... I cut the sleeves off one of my gym t-shirts this morning. With it being so freaking hot outside, I thought why not. I have to admit I was really self conscious walking into the gym wearing a shirt with no sleeves. But that went way by the time I finished my first set.
3) In speaking with the PW director, I suggested that we plant more trees around City Hall (we have several large lawn spaces, including the great lawn in front of the building). He said no, it would ruin the view of the building from the street.
4) I think JJ Watt is one of those athletes where the good he does off the field outweighs his athletic abilities.
5) As I drove to work this morning, I was thinking about how lucky I am and all the awesome things I have in my life.
