Daily things 5️⃣ Five Things Friday

1. Friday doesn't seem like such a big deal right now. I'm still at work during the week but it's not like you can go anywhere on the weekend.
2. Offer was accepted so I'm getting a lakefront lot to build on in a few years.
3. Going to do it right and take my time working with an architect who will translate what I want into design.
4. Really fortunate that our budget here is looking pretty decent for the rest of this FY and next year's proposed as well.
5. Things I never said in Maryland: "There's an alligator in the front yard". I can check that one off the list after this morning!

1. There is a petty downtown business owner that has consumed many, many hours to deal with their crap over the last few days
2. There's potential for (slow water) kayaking this weekend
3. It would be nice outside today if the wind wasn't blowing so hard
4. Heard one of my good friends passed away this week (aneurysm, not C19), we used to brew beer together many years ago
5. I'm (almost) stunned at the level of discord that is out there
 
1.) One more week left in my current job, then the adventure begins
2.) I am going to watch the final Phantasm movie over the weekend
3.) Its wayyyy too cold for May, but I am determined to get in a good ride on Saturday
4.) I had a recruiter reach out to me for a position that looks interesting, but probably is a bad idea
5.) I don't think we will have college football this Fall and that will be real weird
 
1) Windy and cool for the morning dog walk. Just a smidge too windy, as I nearly lost my hat twice.

2) Lots of small, petty things to do today. I'd rather take a nap.

3) About to listen to a webinar on native plants and ecosystem health. Could be good. Could be boring.

4) I think it's pork for dinner tonight. Baked potato? Mashed?

5) Part of me wants to rush out and partake of all the reopening of business madness. But my head is telling me to keep my mask on, head down, and stay home.
 
1. Retail shopping opens up today at 5:00 with 50% capacity. Count me in on being part of the 50% that's not going to the store.
2. It's Friday. Paycheck in. Paycheck out.
3. It is eerily quiet in town today, has been since I left the house this morning.
4. A citizen called Planning to put in an order to replace his roll-out trash can. Is that considered "other duties as described"?
5. Next year's budget should best be described as "minimal"
 
1. The refrigerator issue may be terminal and not what we initially thought
2. We ate dinner at 10:00pm last night due to #1
3. Suddenly there are 2 big projects coming through our office door
4. I feel like I'm in some sort of pseudo holding pattern for 5 or 6 things at the house/family oriented stuff
5. The Girl volunteered for a sizeable project for her school, one of her teachers told me yesterday how important (& good) her work is on it
 
1. The only good thing to come from covid is the bonus two months I spent with my youngest son.

2. My youngest son moves to the Akron area today, and I admit that I'm not handling this well. :(

3. My daughter expects a baby in December, so we're all looking forward to that! It's a cusp of quarantine baby.

4. We've got some summer like weather this weekend.

5. I should be riding my bike every day that the weather is decent so I can be ready for a longer ride in a few weeks.
 
1) While the weekend is in sight, I'm still slogging through today. Meetings. Who schedules meetings on Friday afternoon!!!

2) Cooked a casserole last night that looked better than it tasted. It was edible.

3) No big plans this weekend. Got to make a shopping trip for dad, otherwise, I'm staying in.

4) All these people that seem to have the time to learn something new while in quarantine - I wish I could too. But I'm actually struggling to get my work done due to lack of focus and stress issues. No time to learn a new recipe that takes all day or to replant my entire front area.

5) Damn, I want a donut. My waistline says no.
 
1) Since the day after St. Patrick's Day, I have shifted my health process substantially. I have not had anything with alcohol, have been doing 18/6 Intermittent Fasting, have maintained a Ketogenic Diet, and I have been doing basic daily workouts from home every day. I have also been using a c-pap when I am sleeping, having meditation and prayer every morning, and drinking well over a gallon of water a day. Since then, I have lost more than 16 pounds, increased muscle and decreased fat. I feel better than I have ever felt and I am thinking so much clearer than ever before. It is still odd cooking meals though, given the rest of the family is not doing keto, so often I have to adapt my portion to not include past, potatoes, or any other carbs.

2) Other family related things have been a bit of a train wreak recently, but we are putting in deliberate steps to see if things can get fixed.

3) When all this started, I put up a bunch of post-its with things than I wanted to do at work. It has been very stratifying crossing them out as they get completed. Some were easier than others.

4) I am looking forward to the weekend. It is going to be sunny and hot. We are setting up a little pool in our back yard for the kids to splash in.

5) The neighborhood that I live in a fully planned Newland community. For the first several years there was only a coffee shop/ sandwich shop/ pub in the community center. Then last year a gas station with convince store and hot-food counter opened up. Well, right now there is a ton of construction going on which will include a Publix, a bunch of retail and restaurants, and an apartment complex. It is fun to see the progress and reality that the grocery store, retail, and restaurants will be walking distance from my house. On top of that, the neighborhood already feels like a resort with all the walking trails, ponds, pocket parks, and more.

1. Restaurants open today at 5:00 pm at 50% capacity - I'm going to be one of the 50% not there
2. There are an abundance of bunnies in the 'hood this Spring
3. No real plans for the holiday weekend but need to figure out something - I don't want to do yard work
4. EPA did not fund our brownfields assessment grant application (again)
5. We HAD a long weekend trip planned for late June - just got cancelled & that makes 3 (I know, first world problems)
 
1 - friday before 3 day weekend
2 - pay day
3 - had my coffee
4 - it is a nice morning
5 - feeling more confident about going back into the office with all the personal safety procedures that they say are in place.
 
1. Someone turned off my laptop so I couldn't WFH. I was planning to come in today anyway, but not this early.
2. Stopped at McD's to get a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. Found a bacon, egg, and cheese McGriddle instead. Bleh and such a letdown.
3. Have to advise a permit holder that she cannot begin construction until she vacates an easement or moves the structure out of the easement. She ain't gonna be happy to hear it.
4. Absolutely have to mow the lawn after work today. Too many chances for rain over the next week to risk waiting.
5. Probably work on the triple track storm window rehab and screen upgrade in the garage this weekend.
Bonus: Still haven't gotten my stimulus check. (No, I haven't given the government my bank routing, just on general principle.)
 
1) As of about a minute ago, I'm on vacation.

2) Had a really good discussion with an employee today on a project and approach. I think we're all headed in the same direction.

3) Found a sticky note with a to-do list that I evidently misplaced. I've only done 2 things on the list. Oops. But no one has said anything (yet).

4) Holiday weekend = Hubby playing some Quarantine Golf with some buddies. He likes it - fewer people out, tee times spaced further apart, don't have to share things.

5) Not sure what I will do while he's playing golf. Maybe sleep in . . .
 
1. Hubby and I discussed taking up golf.

2. Our neighborhood curb surfers are pretty good. We got rid of a rain barrel, kid's water table, some bird feeders, and a patio umbrella and stand.

3. 3 beautiful weather days (70s and sunny) in a row. I am grateful!

4. I am trying to figure out a way to salvage our beach vacation for mid-August.

5. As much as my town depresses me, we do have some nice amenities and access to nature.
 
I took golf lessons but didn't like playing golf so I switched to horseback riding lessons. This was a long time ago.

I've moved from being a periodic empty nester to a full-fledged empty nester.

More businesses in my town reopened.

My work at home now includes writing educational pieces. It takes me back to a job I held long ago.

Three-day weekend doesn't hold the same meaning for me right now, but I'll still enjoy it.
 
1. The apartment upstairs has a new roommate, who is covid negative! :)

2. I have been suffering from plantar warts for several years. Since I never did any activities à pieds nus before I started JiuJitsu last fall, I had never bothered to treat them since they are not painful. With the extra time at home, Ive been stepping up my anti-wart game using a combination of DIY Dry Needling, pumice stone and prescription strength salicylic acid. This way, when Sports are allowed agin, whenever that may be, I won't have to tape up my heels evetytime I go to train.

3. Ive finally begun to lose the 20 Quarantine Pounds I gained since March. Thank you Vyvanse and bicycle weather!!

4. My Daily Driver (1999 5 speed Camry, 4cyl bulletproof appliance) needs two new shocks in the rear and will need rear pads and rotors in about a month. I have all the parts, hoping my mechanic can open up soon, garages are allowed to open in Quebec since april, but the one I go to is in a collective building thats shuttered 7until "whenever" :/

5. I miss having a Volvo. Ideally my work picks up again after the virus calms and I can afford another 240 by my 30th (4/15/21).
 
I need to buy Ms. P a new crock pot. I broke the old one.

It was good to see a few faces I hadn't seen in a while last night at an event. I left early because it was getting crowded.

One step closer on a project for downtown was approved Wednesday night. Several more steps to go however.

There's a small project at home I hope to complete this weekend. Unfortunately it will require a trip to home improvement store.

Mrs. P has been driving around with an expired tag for a month. I asked if she'd gotten her new sticker yet & she had. It was sitting in the glove box, just never put on.
 
1) I have to have my car inspected before I can get my new sticker. I plan on doing that this weekend.

2) Nice short week - work not too much of a thing, but the weather hasn't been as great every day.

3) I still want some ice cream.

4) Don't have to go back to the office yet. Staying with the "work from home is a priority" approach at least through June.

5) I'm jealous of the dog and her napping during the day. I want a nap too . . .

  • From the stories I've been hearing I definitely left my last employer at the right time.
  • Going to try to spend a few hours at the beach. This farmer's tan needs to go.
  • Still can't go in the library but they are now offering curbside service. Yay!
 
1. Protests around this area have been peaceful - police on high alert though
2. The weekend project from last week was not completed due to finding additional work that needed to be done in the area - this will involve another run to the home improvement store
3. I like craft beer
4. The Girl & a friend 'rescued' a kitten from a parking lot - neither can keep it so they're working on 2 other friends to take it
5. No one around here knows our TDD#
 
1) It's hot here now. Upper 90s this weekend with triple-digit heat index.

2) My turn to go to the grocery store this weekend. WIll check the paper aisle, as my dad needs some things.

3) Ordered new curtains/drapes for the master. More light-blocking and temperature control (energy efficiency) with a color other than black or dark shades.

4) Going for a walk at a different park this weekend. New scenery!

5) I am jealous of my :dog:dog. Multiple naps throughout the day, lots of treats, and gourmet meals (she's picky).

1) I pay for BritBox thru Amazon to watch British shows - Death in Paradise, Father Brown, Midsomer Murders, QI, and others.

2) It's back to HOT here. Soon it'll be Hotter than Hell.

3) I'm off at lunchtime. Just need a break.

4) Got a notice from the HOA that we need to take care of the gravel area/kill the grass along the alleyway. The email was sent to the entire alleyway, then followed up with individual notices. We have killed the grass.

5) Weekend plans include pizza with dad, laundry, and maybe planting some pots on the patio.

4. It's Friday and our normal dinner is pizza, but I just don't feel like having that tonight

1) Only half a day of work until the weekend!!

2) Father's Day and my wedding anniversary are both this weekend. Don't know yet what we're going to do for the anniversary, but dad wants pizza.

3) Work goes in cycles. Am in a busy cycle right now. Things are good.

4) Hot, humid, sweat, repeat - weather forecast for this weekend. Supposedly a 20% chance of rain, but I think that equals about 0.002 inches, so no big deal.

5) Masks - anyone else rockin' something other than plain? I have a couple made from leftover tie-dye fabric, one pretty floral, and two with a more vintage floral. All are at least double, some triple, thickness with the ability to put a filter in a couple of them. All washable.
 
1) Over the past few weeks, I have been really reflective of where things are at my life and where I need things to go. This included taking stock of the most important aspects of my life, deficiencies in particular elements, determination of what elements I have control over and how much I can influence change for those that I do not have control over, and a clear understanding of my values and goals. This is resulting in a series of little changes and depending on the effect of those, it may necessitate much larger changes.
2) I am in the process of refinancing my house and I am concerned with the appeaser's value. She was absolute in the belief that my neighborhoods house next door (same lot size, floor plan, and finishes) was not worth the offer they just accepted. They contacted me this morning and said that their appraisal came back good. The mortgage company said that they expect to hear back today from her. If it is low, I am going to challenge it.
3) Vacation plans for the summer are officially in the trash thanks to COVID. I changed my time-off request and will be working most of that week, although I will take at least 1 day and go to the beach. At the end of the Summer, I am going to take the kids to an amusement park.
4) Canceled my satellite radio this week. The customer service rep fought me every bit of the way, offering me what they said was an amazing deal... I had to ask about 15 times for him to please cancel my service at the end of contract.
5) Signed up for e-meals today and put in the weekly shopping list to be picked up at a local grocery store. Of course they are missing several of the items on the list.
 
1. First in-person Board meeting in a while scheduled for Monday
2. Guess who gets to screen all attendees for covid? :mad:
3. Grilled a delightful pork tenderloin
4. Still haven't gotten the porch painted and its's almost mid July
5. I need a vacation....but there's nowhere to go! :cry:
 
1. I'm liking the 'closed to public' thingy going on, but the phone still rings & email still works
2. Whenever I grill yellow squash, there is at least one piece that slides down between the grate
3. Should I pressure wash the deck? Maybe, but them I have to paint too

She missed a golden opportunity. She should have gone with the angle "honey, you deserve some 'me time'. Go ahead and hang out at bars as long as you like this weekend..." then later collect on the debt say 10 months from now when she wants to go out of town for a 'girls weekend' and throw it in your face that she "let" you hang out at bars when you wanted to.
 
1) There are several juxtapositions in my life that I am trying to figure out how to align. The primary difficulty is depending on the direction of the alignment, it may result in substantial changes to my life that I am not sure I want to pursue. I think the next 60 to 90 days will be very telling. However I have found small changes that I can make to help simplify the process. One of these is resulting in the selling or discarding of all sorts of things that I don't need, use, or want.
2) According to a few articles that I read, hyper hydration can help minimize the damage of sunburns. I drank at least 2 gallons of water over a 6 hour period last night with do hydration tablets. I will let you know the results next week.
3) I have meditated every day for the past two weeks and believe that it has been a great help to reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
4) I was sitting on my front porch this morning with a cup of coffee, and noticed that the wooden railings hare in desperate need of a scraping and a fresh coat of paint. But then again, I also noticed that the flower beds need to be weeded and expanded, a couple of flower pots should really be planted into the ground, and the landscaping needs to be expanded to wrap further around the porch.
5) Does anyone have one of the new waterproof kindles and if so, how do you like it? I am thinking of ordering one today but I am not 100% sold on it. I am also fearful of ordering it and then finding it goes on sale right afterwards.
 
1) Boss is on vacation, and I feel less stressed already.;);)

2) Working on a job requisition. Wow - HR sure is specific on how they want it formatted!

3) Plans for the weekend include seeing dad (haven't seen in a month due to timing and then COVID confinement), Zoom call with friends, and reading a lighthearted murder mystery about a groom killed at the wedding reception, and the sleuth is the cook/chef/caterer. Maybe some gardening, but it'll be triple digits here by 10am.

4) My dog :dog: has figured out that napping on the bed isn't so bad (my WFH setup is in the bedroom) but she's not ready to spend the night on it.

5) Next week will be nice in some ways, crappy:poop: in others. Hopefully all the crappy will be over by Weds. afternoon.
 
1. The worst day of this week was the first couple hours last Monday
2. Looks like marching band season has been cancelled (& The Girl is not happy)
3. The back deck is a nice place to sit - in the evenings past 9:30 because its cooled down and the frogs are in full bravado
4. I have not been able to see the NEOWISE comet
5. Went to a transit board meeting yesterday & it was the first place I've had my temperature taken before I was allowed to enter (97.8 incase you were curious)

1) What a fun week without the boss! I do hope she is having a great vacation and comes back rested and chill.

2) Shopping for a new desk this weekend.

3) In addition to the new position requisition (which has already been posted), I am working with an employee on promotional paperwork.

4) Still craving ice cream enough to consider hijacking one of Blue Bell's trucks. But then I don't look good in orange . . .

5) Next week's looking busy early, but by Weds afternoon, should be able to breathe.
 
1) The youngest was invited to an outdoor, splash style birthday party complete with a slip and slide and spray garden.
2) Pool time is in my future... but tonight we are going out for a dinner because I am sick of cooking.
3) I have been in training most of the day and my brain is full.
4) I am going to take the boys on a mini-vacation before school starts. We have plans and reservations and a wonderful amusement park that smells like chocolate, but it will be dependent on COVID.
5) My workout was a little too intense yesterday.
 
1) Chiro found a sensitive spot on my right shoulder - no wonder I've been having issues with moving that joint!

2) I'm still on the same tank of gas from mid-May. I might have to gas up next weekend, depending on this weekend's activities.

3) I really don't want to work today. But my :dog: needs kibble, so I will buckle down and provide for her.

4) I got a notice that two of my 3 shirt orders:) have shipped!

5) I'm ready for the weekend! :cheers:
 
1) I am so needing this weekend, but I will be in the office for a while tomorrow finishing up some stuff. Good stuff, but stuff nonetheless.
2) Hockey starts back up in a few weeks and that will be wonderful.
3) I was thinking about eating steak tacos for dinner tonight, but now I am not so sure I want to do that. Perhaps it is time to try a new place.
4) I am trying to recover from a workout injury from the other day. I pulled something and it is still a bit sore so I am going to give it one more day before I get back into the gym.
5) It is not the things that are out of my control that scare me, it is the things that are completely within my control that cause me to stay awake at night. I realize that the choices that I make might only alter the course of direction by a fraction of a degree... but there are many of these decisions that need to be made within any given period of time that add up and whereas the change of course now might be insignificant, the factor of time amplifies the effect as I will be in an entirely different place than if I had made different decisions early on. Even more so, making no decision is itself a decision to stay the course, which is not where I want to go.
 
1) Looks like there is a chance of some weather early next week, but it depends on where the hurricane goes. We might have sunny skies or an hour or two of wind and rain. I am going to gas up the generator and put the patio furniture away just in case.
2) A coworker and I were talking about customer service in the area, and he pointed out that in parts of the metro area that are higher income and higher density population, the customer service is better. I realized that he is correct. Unfortunately, those areas are at least 10 to 15 miles from my house.
3) So the NHL playoffs will be on NBC, NBCSN, and USA... I get NBC over an antenna and I looked into getting sling, but NBCSN and USA are not available in my market. I have the NHL online channel, but they will not have most of the games that are on NBC or NBCSN... so I am at a loss. It looks like I might end up listening to the games on the radio. Does anyone have any suggestions other than getting cable?
4) I have 3 night meetings in less than 10 days, then I am on vacation for 3 days. That is a good thing.
5) I did not think it would make a difference, but there is different protein powders depending on what time you take them. Whey is good for fast absorption during the day and casein is slow absorption which is good before bed.
 
^^^You could get a subscription to NBCSN to use on your iPad for example. I did that to watch EPL matches (but I also have cable which gave me a free subscription).



1. A loopy 17 year old can be very funny - pitiful too
2. It looks like we're going to visit a couple universities late next week
3. Meeting with a councilwomen at 8:00 am Monday to discuss something she wants but is not warranted by NCDOT who has jurisdiction & has said no at least twice already (she has a habit of not believing staff's answers)
4. Was going to mow the lawn after it cooled down yesterday - it started raining heavily about 6:30 which killed that idea
5. There's been an estate sale around the corner from us & cars were lined up for blocks to go in - several at 7:00 am & the sale didn't start until 9:30.
