Electric cars won’t fix sitting: The health costs of designing cities around cars

Walkability pioneer, UC San Diego urban planning professor Lawrence Frank revisits two decades of evidence linking car dependence and chronic disease — and explains why cleaner cars won’t make us healthier.

His message is simple: Technological advances like electric vehicles have improved our air quality, but they don’t make us move. We’ve cleaned the tailpipes, but we haven’t cleaned up the behavior.

Edit... I mentioned this before, but it is worth repeating. Auto manufacturers are now realizing that we are not quite ready for EV. Ford reported a net loss of $8.2 Billion in FY 2025, mostly due to the lack of sales of electric vehicles. GM is expecting a $1.6 Billion loss.
