Sometimes when I need a quick map I make it in arcGIS, but instead of exporting it out as a PDF and putting a title, scale bar and a north arrow...I just screenshot that bad boy out and paste it in a document.

Fess up Planners, what are your shortcut tips?

I've used the 'screen shot' technique many of times with great results.

Quick maps using powerpoint too

Throw everything you know about the screen shot button out the window and use the "snipping tool". It's so much better!

I have a snipping tool that just lets me cut out the picture and run with it. I rarely put on a north arrow, legend, and all the other junk.

For really lazy planning, we get permits for barns and things. I just sign off and don't really look to much at the details (mostly because it's AG exempt and I shouldn't be getting a permit anyway). One of those problems that needs to be fixed.

Boilerplating staff reports

After the nth fence height variance request, all I really need to do is change the names, address, case# and dates. :D

^This. Finding the most similar previous case and running from there.
Has the advantage of not only saving time but by recognizing precedents also promoting equality of treatment.

Another lazy planner action: After a long day of talking, talking, talking (and emailing, etc), I simply answer your question exactly without elaboration...even though I know what questions are coming next. I don't want to bother.

Or "Here's the link to the entire zoning code on the City's website, please review to determine applicability to your desired project and let me know if you have any questions."

Where is this snipping tool of which you speak?

It's part of windows, cut and paste this into a shortcut.
%windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe

If not, there is a program called Skitch that is part of evernote.
