Looking at the banner ad on top I see there's an Allstate ad featuring actor Dennis Haysbert. We're in the middle of watching season 3 of the show "24" so every time President Palmer starts a scene I find myself saying "and if Jack Bauer can't save you at least you're in good hands with Allstate...". I can't look at the guy without connecting him with the Allstate commercials. It's a strong association and that's probably the way the company likes it. The same would be true of the comedienne who plays 'Flo' in the Progressive commercials if you actually saw her somewhere other than in the commercials.

There are all kinds of celebrity spokesmen and celebrity endorsements out there, but why is it some become indelibly connected with the product they're endorsing while others don't?
Off the top of your head, who are the celebrity spokespeople that come immediately to your mind (and what product do you connect them with?

When I think Bose stereos, I think Paul Harvey.

Interestingly, in the last couple of weeks I've noticed a bunch of TV commercials during shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Tosh.0 for a new line of Bose stereos. Maybe they are trying to distance themselves from the Paul Harvey image and the replaced hip demographic and appeal more to the hipster demographic...

Radio announcer Paul Harvey was in a class by himself when it came to product endorsements. I think immediately of Olympic Overcoat when I think of Paul Harvey, but he pitched all kinds of products over the course of his career. It seems he and his family made a point to use whatever product he pitched, and when he spoke of his personal experiences with them it added that much more conviction to his endorsements.

When I think of walk-in bathtubs, I think of Pat Boone without a shirt. Please, please get that image out of my mind!

Thought of another one from childhood - Captain Kangaroo was a shameless shill for Colgate toothpaste (with MFP: 'More Fluoride Protection')

How about the celebrity endorsements for reverse mortgages: Fred Thompson, the Fonz, etc.

Or Alex Trebec for life insurance for those over 50.

Do you think Jamie Lee Curtis gets stopped on the street a lot by people wanting to discuss regularity? She went from "Halloween" to "The Pooping Yogurt Lady."

I would not have made the connection of Danny DeVito and Limoncello..

I do enjoy that this ad has a lemon AND a cello....

Charlton Heston for Guns.

Peyton Manning for United Way.

Not sure how to get a Hulu video to play correctly... hmm.
