How organized are you ?
Do you have all your paper work ?

W2's are in. I plan on using FreeTaxUSA. Not anticipating a major refund because only high-income earners get those since we have a regressive tax system.
 
We'll file some time in April. Our taxes are always pretty simple but one of my wife's investment accounts has a bunch of foreign holdings and they always take forever to reconcile everything and send out the 1099-DIV forms. We usually end up getting that 1099 about a week or two before the filing deadline.

I anticipate that our end result will be roughly the same as it has been the past decade or so - a small federal refund likely to be offset by what we will out to the state.
 
I believe we have everything together. My wife does the hard work of taking everything over to the CPA.
 
How organized are you ? - thought I had everything - but not a valid IP PIN

Do you file early or wait until April 15 ? e-filed today
Are stressed out yet ? - Stressed about getting IP PIN corrected, & amount paid in both fed & state taxes, but thinking of the frequent flyer miles gained
 
How organized are you ? Extremely... I have spreadsheets and check lists
Do you have all your paper work ? No, we are still waiting on a W2 and some other stuff that is in the mail... but we have not received mail in two weeks thanks to the storm.
What online service do you use ? We don't. We have a tax preparer who is out of Michigan and is a hard core libertarian who is hyper focused on screwing the federal government while remaining fully legal... and she charges us $30.
Do you file early or wait until April 15 ? We file as soon as we can.
Are stressed out yet ? Yes... because I haven't received the last of the documents to get things processed!

W-2's are in. Still waiting on a couple of 1099's.

Waiting because:

- Wife gets tips, which I understand are not taxable, so we need to wait for an adjustment to see how much of that income was tips.

- Last year, my previous employer sent incorrect W-2's. I caught the error, but sent in the return based on my correct information, not their incorrect info. Previous jurisdiction eventually sent the correct form out, but the mismatch caused delays. I want to double check it's right.

- Among other reasons I won't get into
 
I have to amend two years of taxes so I’m not in a hurry. We almost always owe a net amount. Sometimes to the feds, sometimes to the state, sometimes both 🙄

NJ taxes all income. Pre-tax deductions? That’s cute…for the feds 😆
 
Still waiting on a couple of minor documents. I have a habit of filing on April 15th. We don't usually get much or pay much. Last year we bumped up a bracket and it was a bit of hit, but I had more deducted through the year to hopefully even things out.

Not organized at all.
 
finally ready to file this year, and behind. Even without a child deduction (my ex and i switch every other year), I still go a larger refund than last year. The added SALT deduction took my basically doubled our itemized deductions. So upper middle class got more money. :r:

I just finished mine. I upped the amount of tax withheld pretty significantly and got a 3% raise last year, but my federal return dropped from around $1200 to $80. I must have been enough to move a bracket or something. State return was up this year.

The tweak the brackets and withholding percentages every year. This administration is particularly bad about playing games so people think they are getting more money on the take home side not realizing they will have a reduced refund or owe at tax filing time.

I almost always owe, so I’m never excited about filing taxes and usually file an extension. I do have an appointment by proxy with the CPA next week. He does my daughter’s taxes too and to send my stuff in with her.

I know I need to have 2023 state returns amended, and file 2024 and 2025.
